Mules win PB Invitational
POPLAR BLUFF — Trent Hillis shot a 1-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors and lead the host Mules to the Poplar Bluff Invitational title Monday at Westwood Hills Country Club.
The Mules finished at 300 followed by Sikeston (322) and Dexter (325), which broke a tie with Cape Central with a fifth-player score of 89 to Central's 95.
Dexter's Chance Holden finished second overall with a 2-over 72 while Mark Fraser led Sikeston with a 73 for third. Cape Central's Tim Simmons shot a 74 for fourth followed by Poplar Bluff's Corey Poteet at 75 and Zack Stricker's 76.
The Mules had all five golfers finish in the top 13. Josh Rathbun shot an 80 while Cameron West's 81 did not count toward the team score but earned the junior a medal.
Notre Dame's Brett Slaten shot a 77 while Central's Jack Connell and Zane Betz of Van Buren each shot 79.
Kennett (331) was fifth followed by Notre Dame (337), Jackson (356), Poplar Bluff Maroon (366), Doniphan (375), Bloomfield (389), Caruthersville (439) and Clearwater (442).
Corey Johnson's 80 led Kennett while Tanner Werner led Jackson at 86. Kody Berrong's 88 led Doniphan while Matt King's 87 led Bloomfield. Caleb Moss (86) led Caruthersville and Tanner McKinney's 85 led Clearwater.
