Now this is March Madness
Took off Friday night to actually enjoy some sports, watching the Raiders, North Carolina and Mississippi State at one of our fine dining establishments. It was not as crowded as one would think -- another impact of the flooding -- but still a nice distraction after such a long week.
Just about everybody has been impacted by the flooding in the area or at least knows someone who has been impacted. My brother-in-law was working the night shift in the industrial park when the rising waters made his work into an island. He couldn't drive out, leaving his car behind while getting a ride in a coworker's pickup. The car ended up staying dry.
His finance and her family live very close to the Black River on the south side of town. They left as the water surrounded their house but were able to return a few days later with little damage.
Around our house, the heavy rains did the usual damage but nothing major other than a moat around the house, water in the basement and a wet spot or two on the ceiling. I've never seen so much rain in so little time.
In the middle of that, Alex was with the Raiders at Hutch and Poplar Bluff named a new football coach. I didn't have any time to blog about my favorite thing -- the NCAA Tournament. (The wife is 25 for 32 after the first round)
Three Rivers plays tonight for third place. We'll have something in Sunday's edition and probably more Monday when Alex gets back.
To answer an earlier question, I'm here in Poplar Bluff so I cannot help with any information concerning Cape Central's next coach. Since both Jackson and Poplar Bluff went with assistant coaches, who knows what they'll do.
Alex, Brad and myself work for the DAR in Poplar Bluff and our blogs are linked from our website (darnews.com) and posted here as well since we work with the Southeast Missourian to provide coverage.
Hope everybody is dry and safe while enjoying some March Madness.
