Mules 21, Cape Central 20
Sorry for no report last night, I had to make a trip to the Southeast Missourian offices to drop off film for the game and didn't get home well past midnight. Getting up at 5 a.m. Friday made it a long day, so anything I might have typed up at that hour couldn't have been worth reading.
You can read a good story by Kevin here.
I must say a great, but ugly, game for fans to watch on both sides of Houck Stadium. More injury news for the Mules, however, as Austin Williams left with a knee injury in the second quarter. He'll have an MRI and will know more about the seriousness on Monday.
Mules coach Shane Kearbey talked with me this morning about the late-game situation to go for it on fourth-and-1 at the Central 7 with 2 minutes left . They had converted a bunch of short-yard downs earlier in the drive and a 1-yard gain pretty much ices the game. If you don't get it, then Central has to drive the length of the field. But at the same time, if you kick it and go up by four, then Central can't kick a last-second field goal. If you miss the kick, then they have the ball at the 20, down 1 needing 55 yards to get into field-goal range. The Mules had not attempted a field goal this season.
That's one of those calls that a coach can't win unless his team wins.
What would you do?
