Lady Mules at Jackson Feb. 5
Poplar Bluff and Jackson have rescheduled their girls basketball game that was postponed in December to Thursday, Feb. 5.
The Lady Mules host Cape Central on Thursday night to open SEMO Conference play after sharing the conference title with Jackson and Dexter last season.
Jackson-Poplar Bluff has to be the best girls basketball rivalry in Southeast Missouri. Consider:
* The all-time series is 34-31 Poplar Bluff only because the Lady Mules have won three of the last four meetings.
* Jackson has more wins against the Lady Mules than any other program. The next closest SEMO foe is Cape Central with 19 wins against Poplar Bluff in 72 meetings.
* Last season there were three meetings, Jackson beat the Lady Mules 47-42 at Poplar Bluff in SEMO play. Poplar Bluff won the first meeting, 48-42, and a meeting in the district championship game, 48-40.
* This season started with a 44-43 Poplar Bluff win.
* Poplar Bluff coach Kirk Chronister's career record is 640-189 with 11 district titles but Jackson has beaten the Lady Mules 10 times in the district championship game. Poplar Bluff has won the last three meetings in the district final (2008, '04 and '02).
* Poplar Bluff handed the Lady Indians their first and only loss of the 1993-94 season in the district final, 42-36, going on to finish fourth at state.
* Poplar Bluff's 35-game home winning streak was snapped by, who else, Jackson, 42-41, in Jan. 2004.
* The two programs have 13 top-four finishes at the state tournament in the last 31 years.
