Parkway 2, Bluff 0
Not a good night for Poplar Bluff on Wednesday.
First, the Mules turned the ball over 25 times leading to 40 points for Parkway West in a 68-43 loss. Then, the Lady Mules had a nine-point lead slip away by not scoring a single field goal in the final 6:55 and lost 42-36 to Parkway North.
Riley Raulston scored 18 points in his final game for the Mules but was the only Poplar Bluff player in double figures as Ruthie Johnson led the Lady Mules with nine points.
More in Thursday's DAR
Got back into the Bluff just before 11 p.m., got a snack (third PB&J of the night, no time for dinner) as computer fired up. Started working on stories. I typed up quotes and did stats on the ride home (jumped on the team bus to save some time and money tonight).
At 12:46 a.m. I got the Lady Mules story done, it was the easier of the two games to write about because it's the last one I saw. Will start working on the Mules now ... how long will it take?
It's 12:51, can't think of how to start Mules story. ...
1:02, stuck again at 97 words, two of which are my name. ...
1:13, looked up how many points Riley Raulston finished with in his career: 861 points, 13th all-time between Scott Harrell and Tom Hoover, who kept score Wednesday night.
1:30, giving up with story half done since the alarm goes off in four hours. Then back to the office to put the paper together.
Update ... I overslept this morning by a half hour, didn't get the Mules story done until after 8 a.m. and couldn't come up with a better headline than "Mules put in park." I ended up having to cut out some of the story to fit in the paper and missed deadline.
Not a good day at the office, but I guess it could be worse...
