POPLAR BLUFF -- Jay Raulston scored 18 points to reach 1,000 for his career Friday night as the Poplar Bluff Mules beat Twin Rivers 61-33 at Peters Gym.

The Mules (10-3) went on a 14-2 run to start the second half after the Royals (6-7) cut a double-digit, first-half lead to 25-20 at halftime.

Eljie Johnson added 14 points and Greg Coble scored eight for Poplar Bluff, which led 14-8 after one quarter. The lead grew to 11 with 2:40 left in the half.

Cole McBroom's 12 points led Twin Rivers, which finished the first half with an 8-2 run to pull within five.

Twin Rivers hit just one field goal in the third quarter and were outscored 20-4.

The two Butler County rivals had split the last two meetings with the road team winning each time.

Poplar Bluff is extremely talented. You have to like their chances in Class 5 District 1. It should be interesting to see what happens when they play Sikeston again later this season. I think the SEMO Conference Tournament would be more exciting if it was played in early February. We would definitely be debating whether Poplar Bluff should be seeded first if the tournament was scheduled to take place next month. It should be interesting to see what Twin Rivers does the remainder of the season. They host a very winnable district at the end of the season.
