SEMO boys race gets closer
UPDATE: Sikeston clinched a tie for the SEMO Conference title with a win over New Madrid County Central tonight. The Eagles' second loss also put them in a tie with Notre Dame, which also cliches a share of the title, and Poplar Bluff, which can also lay claim to the title with a win Friday night against visiting Charleston.
Just when you thought things were going to clear up in the race for the SEMO Conference title on the boys side, Poplar Bluff wins at Notre Dame and Cape Central knocks off Sikeston on Friday night.
New Madrid County Central, which beat Jackson 59-48 Friday night, clinched at least a share of the title and is atop the standings with one conference loss. The Eagles can wrap up the title out-right with a win Tuesday night at Sikeston. The Bulldogs, however, can win a share of the title and create a four-way tie for first with a win. Sikeston, Notre Dame and Poplar Bluff all have two conference losses after Friday night. The Mules host Charleston while Notre Dame plays Dexter.
Since there are no tie breakers, there could be one champion (NMCC), two champs (NMCC, Sikeston), three champs (NMCC, Sikeston and Bluff or Notre Dame) or four champs (NMCC, Sikeston, Bluff and Notre Dame).
Should be a fun week of basketball.
