Locals run Boston Marathon
Amy Shell of Poplar Bluff finished her first Boston Marathon today (April 19). Shell, 31, ran the 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton, Mass. to downtown Boston in 3 hours, 46 minutes, 4 seconds to finish 11,418th overall and 2,361st in her division.
Shell, 31, reached the half-way point in 1:41:57 and ran an 8:38 pace.
Other area runners to finish included:
Paul T. Schell, 41, of Jackson finished in 3:41:04 for 1,394th in his division.
Wayne Corse, 60, of Charleston ran a 3:52:59 for 163rd in his division.
Mark H. Anderson, 50, of Cape Girardeau ran a 4:06:51 for 1,485th in his division.
There were 26,735 runners entered this year and 97.5 percent of them finished.
Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya won the race in 2:05:52 while the top female was Teyba Erkesso of Ethopia in 2:26:11. Ryan Hall (2:08:41) and Paige Higgins (2:36:00) were the top American finishers.
