Round 1 of the Ozark Invitational
POPLAR BLUFF -- The first round of the 64th Ozark Invitational started with a boom (of thunder) Saturday morning and is in progress now at Westwood Hills Country Club.
The 6,248-yard course had 4 inches of ran fall on it between Friday night and when play started, softening up greens and making a muddy mess of everything else. Players were able to lift-clean-and-replace their ball for the first time in the tournament since the opening round in 2006.
After the rain, the wind picked up -- averaging 10 mph with gusts up to 30 -- and the sun came out.
The last group teed off at 3:30 p.m., two hours after their scheduled tee time. The day started an hour and 30 minutes late and was interrupted for 20 more minutes due to a thunderstorms. Play resumed for good just after noon.
16 players are still on the course.
