UPDATE from PB: Class 4 District baseball
Jackson knocked off top-seeded Festus 6-3 Monday, advancing to the championship game. I'll post more later tonight.
Saturday:
Rain has kept away from Strenfel Memorial Field for the most part. Poplar Bluff AD Jim Brown said at 8 a.m. the opening round of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 tournament is on schedule.
Play ball!
First pitch for the North County-Sikeston game was 9:37 a.m., it's 60 degrees. There's a light rain but the field is in good shape.
The Raiders scored a run in the top of the first but left the bases loaded. Sikston goes in order. (END OF 1: North County 1, Sikeston 0)
Rain delay at 9:54, a heavy rain has hit. ... teams are back on the field after an 18-minute delay.
North County adds another run on a walk and two errors to go up 2-0. (END OF 2: North County 2, Sikeston 0)
Raiders add another run on a bases-loaded walk but leave three stranded, lead 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third. (END OF 3: NC 3, SIK 0)
After five innings, NC 3, SIK 0.
North County added three more in the top of the sixth, up 6-0. ... Heading to the bottom of the seventh, North County leads 6-0.
Sikeston scores a run, down 6-1 with one out in the seventh. ...
FINAL: North County wins 6-2.
Game 2: Festus (17-7) vs. Poplar Bluff (8-12)
Teams are taking infield now and the game should start before 12:45.

Festus wins 3-0.
Festus senior pitcher Ryan Yuengel threw a 3-hit shutout, striking out eight and taking a no-hitter into the fifth to stymie the Mules, who haven't won a playoff game since 2005.
Game 3: Farmington vs. DeSoto
DeSoto scored four runs in the first but Farmington has scored three in the third and tied the game here in the fourth, 4-4.
Still tied in the seventh. ... DeSoto gets a leadoff double. Runner misses a sign and steals third then scores on a single down the third-base line, 5-4 DeSoto.
Farmington gets a leadoff single. ... but leave him stranded at second.
DeSoto gets the second upset of the day, 5-4.
Game 4: Cape Central vs. Jackson
The teams are warming up now and should start about 5:40ish. I'll be shooting photos so will be away for a few innings.
Jackson leads 1-0 in the fifth. ... I'm headed back to the office to start on the paper. Jeff Breer will have a complete story from this game later tonight.
SOCCER UPDATE
Just got word that Poplar Bluff's soccer game for Monday has been pushed back to Tuesday because the first-round game between Fox and Seckman will not be played today. Cape Central and Northwest are still going to play today, however, but Jackson's semifinal will be Tuesday.
