"What's the deal with Tyler?"
UPDATE: UPDATE: Tyler Hansbrough has been cleared to take part in contact drills.
I get this question a lot when out and about, "What's up with Tyler Hansbrough?"
My attempts to talk with the Poplar Bluff native were unsuccessful this summer but with NBA training camps just around the corner, there's some news.
Mike Wells of the Indy Star reports the following:
Forward Tyler Hansbrough will visit with his doctor today to see if he can be cleared to take part in contact drills.
Hansbrough has been dealing with an inner ear infection/concussion/vertigo for nearly nine months.
"It would be disappointing (if I wasn't cleared), but at the same time, I feel like I'm right around the corner," he said. "I'm extremely optimistic. I feel like it's one of those things where you look at it as bad timing and bad luck. Once I get past this, I will have a much fresher start."
Hansbrough was originally injured when he took a shot to the head during a game at Boston last December. He returned for a handful of games in January and said he was dealing with dizziness.
He ended his rookie season averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in 29 games.
"It's probably one of the toughest things I've ever had to go through," Hansbrough said. "I started working out -- running and lifting weights -- back in July. Now it's a matter of getting back out there and being able to do everything."
The Pacers also posted this at their Website.
Indiana opens the preseason Oct. 6 at Memphis. Here's the full Pacers schedule.
Also, I've heard that Doniphan native Matt Rogers, an All-American at SBU, has gotten a few looks from some NBA teams.

As for forgetting where a person comes from when they "make it," many times people are busy trying to "make it." As an example, I didn't go to my high school class reunion this year because I was busy working and couldn't get back home. There are many times I can't be home for the holidays because of work. That doesn't mean I forgot where I came from, I'm grateful for my high school having a newspaper and a yearbook for me to learn that this is what I wanted to do with my life and my parents for helping support me along the way. Sometimes life happens.
