CLASS 6 -- 1 Blue Springs; 2 Hazelwood Central; 3 Francis Howell; 4 Lee's Summit; 5 Liberty; 6 CBC; 7 Jeff City; 8 Blue Springs South; 9 Ray-Pec; 10 Rock Bridge

CLASS 1 -- 1 Valle; 2 Westran; 3 Hamilton; 4 Salisbury; 5 Cass-Midway; 6 East Buchanan; 7 Milan; 8 Thayer; 9 Chaffee; 10 Skyline
Thoughts on local teams:
Chaffee moved up with Skyline's 49-29 loss to Class 2 No. 10 Ash Grove but East Buchanan jumped up with a win over Class 2 No. 10 Lawson. ... Jackson fans can take note that Vianney's Markel Smith broke the Missouri single-game rushing record with 541 yards and seven touchdowns on 42 carries and that Battle (5-1) knocked off Class 2 No. 4 South Callaway. ... Park Hills Central fans note that California, Oak Grove and Duchesne all lost to ranked opponents in games decided by 4 points or less.

Here's the preseason poll: http://semoball.com/blogs/rosener/entry/49129
Let me break down the Class 4 (probably the hardest since it's the largest class with the most teams).
Your argument is we can't possibly know the seventh best team in the preseason, but I'd say we were pretty close.
In the preseason our top four featured 3 of 4 semifinals (Webb City Helias and Harrisonville). Now, granted the quarterfinalists were just 3 of 8 but, 2 of the teams ranked 4-7 were beat by another ranked team in previous rounds. Had they not faced each other then maybe we get 5 of 8.
Vashon, tied for sixth in the preseason, lost to St. Mary's, a non-ranked team in the preseason that made it to the quarterfinals. St. Mary's beat unranked Miller and unranked Hillsboro after that. The only ranked team out of that quarterfinal bracket, other than Vashon, was Sikeston which lost by 3 to Cape Central.
My point is that a preseason poll can rank the teams pretty accurately but over the course of 10 weeks and the playoffs things do change. That's why there's a new poll each week.
