Heeb and Cookson testify at hearing on MSHSAAPosted Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at 7:50 AM
Scott County Central coach David Heeb and Naylor superintendent Stephen Cookson were among those who testified Tuesday night in front of Jefferson City lawmakers regarding the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
At issue is whether the independent body should be under the supervision of the state. Today's Post-Dispatch quotes representative Jane Cunningham, a Republican from Chesterfield, as favoring the move. "We've got a situation where this an independent organization held accountable to no one," Cunningham told the committee. "People are scared to death to cross their path." Representative Joe Marshall, a Democrat from Marshall, likes MSHSAA's independence. "That's the best thing about MSHSAA," said Aull, a former president of the organization. "It's a group of schools governing itself." The Southeast Missourian had a preview of the hearing on Monday. |
