Shannon's restaurant - "No violations"

Posted Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 3:18 PM

From the Post-Dispatch this afternoon:

"Missouri state alcohol regulators said this afternoon that they found no violations in the way Mike Shannon's downtown restaurant served drinks to Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock the night he was killed in a DUI crash. "

A guilty party would have faced a potential fine, license suspension or revocation, or even criminal prosecution.

Hancock's father, Dean Hancock, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit that claims negligence on the part of Shannon's restaurant.

Update: Hold on. It turns out they never interviewed some key witnesses.

There is another question that keeps haunting me. Reportedly there was a bag with 8.55 grams of marijuana in his possession, but no marijuana in Josh Hancocks system. Marijuana is usually sold in 1/4oz (7 grams), 1/2oz (14 grams), or whole ounce (28 grams) bags. The fact that he had 8.55 grams of marijuana implies that he had purchased something larger than a 1/4oz bag. Pot shows up on toxicoloogy test for a couple of weeks...yet...nothing in his system? Somethin' ain't up to har.

The absolution of Shannon's restaurant is of no surprise to me. This lawsuit was dead before it ever began. Whomever is fueling this lawsuit should be ashamed of themselves.
