Rolen's shoulder - is he done for the year?

Posted Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at 6:45 PM

Rick Hummel of the Post-Dispatch on Scott Rolen's troubled shoulder...

Rolen will be re-evaulated on Friday when the Cardinals return home from this three-game trip and all options will be reviewed, said Weinberg. Though no one is saying so, one of those options would be to move up the further surgery that was scheduled this off-season for Rolen's shoulder on which he had two surgeries in 2005. It isn't out of the realm of possibility that Rolen, hitting .265 with only eight homers and 58 runs batted in, has started his last game this season.

Usually Hummel is right on the money. With Ryan being on a tear, Rolen's playing time is limited.

Really... I think the Cards should just call it quits for the season. I mean, they don't really have a chance against the powerhouse teams that we know as the Brewers and Cubs.

Look for the Cubs to go all the way.

Now that was funny! I say shut him down. Get him healthy and ready for next season. Same with Edmunds. Then trade both of them for pitching, prospects, maybe a third baseman. Ryan will be our shortstop next year but I would love to sign Eckstein to play second. Still need some power and the best free agent third baseman is Mike Lowell. Not that great of an option.
