Nice rankings draw, I agree with most of it.

I'm not sure if I agree with all of it myself. Too many teams have beat too many teams above and below each other.

-- Posted by drawmules on Thu, May 13, 2010, at 8:42 PM

That large school ranking is super tough after ND. In my opinion, which of course all of this is everyone's opinion and therefore there are no right and wrongs, but in my opinion, Sikeston should probably be ahead of Kennett, and you can flip a coin on Jackson/Central for #4 and 5.

Looks good today. I wonder how they'll look 10 days from now...

-- Posted by troll on Thu, May 13, 2010, at 9:31 PM

Yes, probably a total mess! Don't you love the impending post-season?

I'm not sure we will learn a great deal in the next 10 days. But I think we will learn a great deal in the next 13 days.

charleston isn't better than bernie i know that. they're tough when naile pitches but no many bats in the lineup and no true 2nd pitcher. small schools id say

1)clearwater

2)bernie

3)scott city

4)cooter

5)twin rivers

6)malden

7)chaffee

8)charleston

9)east prarie

10)oak ridge

notables: risco, holcomb, oran, scc, senath

I had to rank Charleston above Bernie because Charleston beat Bernie twice. I don't think Bernie is better than Scott City. But I might be wrong. I looked at the score of every Scott City game tonight. Very very impressive Scott City team this season. I think Cooter is playing better than Bernie right now. However, Bernie has two wins against Cooter. Chaffee plays well against Bernie. But Chaffee will have to beat Oran's ace to get to the district finals. Senath has a win against Kennett and has a pitcher that beat Clearwater in the state playoffs last season.

It should be interesting to see what happens in the postseason.

-- Posted by drawmules on Thu, May 13, 2010, at 11:30 PM

well my logic to the bernie above charleston and scott city is with stevens on the mound but in a 3 game series i like scott city over bernie and i'd also have to say chaffee over bernie as well. chaffee's pitching depth is a big suprise to me this season. I'm not making this prediction or saying it will happen, but delta did not throw their best pitcher against oran this year and oran threw their best at delta... so the score looked bad. But i don't see oran using their ace in the opener and i do see delta using theirs bc it's life or death for them. So don't be shocked if delta upsets oran in the first round with maybe a 6-4 victory or something of that nature.

I would also have to pluck Bernie out of the #2 slot, move everyone up and place them back in around #5. Just my two cents. Scott City definitely should be #2. Might also consider putting Senath a little higher.

-- Posted by GreatFun on Fri, May 14, 2010, at 11:42 AM

I would like to see Malden n twin rivers play because I know nothing about them

-- Posted by CHSbaseball on Fri, May 14, 2010, at 12:32 PM

I could see Sikeston or Jackson being the 2nd BEST team in the Large school categories. I think either would beat Kennett if they faced them in the playoffs.

Bulldogs2010

Perhaps. But Kennett earned the No. 2 seed in the SEMO Conference Tournament and they finished second in the SEMO Conference Tournament. They are the only team I have seen consistently competing with Notre Dame in Southeast Missouri this season.

One team that is not on the list is Dexter. Dexter defeated Kennett earlier this week. They have the pitching to defeat Kennett again. It should be interesting to see how Dexter performs next week.

It will also be interesting to see if Dexter and Kennett elect to save their ace for Notre Dame. In my opinion, Dexter and Kennett have a better chance of winning the district tournament if they both save their aces for the finals. But that's just my opinion.

tough place for Jackson, considering they beat Cape once the beat sikeston and they beat two teams Festus and Oakville that were ranked as high as number 4 in the state at one point but I did agree the teams in this area have basically beat up on each other all season long and any team could beat any one of the any other teams on any given day

-- Posted by cerebral1 on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 10:52 AM

what about sv in the small schools? they beat oak ridge with their #4 pitcher easily, lost in eight innings to East Prarie on a walk off homer from their #3 pitcher who had thrown over 100 pitches on the day. Beat leopold starting thir #4 again who beat oak ridge. They also beat Crystal City who is a very good team up north. and yes they have alot of losses but look at who they are playing Festus, hillboro, desoto, valle, and Windsor.

-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 1:28 PM

No way is Jackson the 5. Jackson has beat Central and Sikeston. I believe Jackson is the 3 and they are loaded with talent.

You have a legitimate complaint. I wish you would have brought this to my attention earlier.

-- Posted by drawmules on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 4:32 PM

Dont think oak ridge should be on small schools, and where is oran?

-- Posted by sportsarethebest on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 6:47 PM

It's hard to rank teams when every game could be played differently with different pitchers. Oak Ridge did lose to Leopold with our #4. the last 2 times we played them we beat them with our #1 pitcher. Oak Ridge played SV without Our #2 batter and pitched our #4 .Would have liked to see both # 1 pitcher's That's the only way that a person can rank a team.Even the pro's are weaker with #4 pitching.

baseball4life

Don't know if it matters but Oak Ridge beat Oran when they played

-- Posted by oak ridge fan on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 7:34 PM

draw i understand and i do applaud you for posting these rankings every week and i thouroughly enjoy keeping track of them

I'll be very honest. I think you are right based on the info you gave me.

-- Posted by drawmules on Sat, May 15, 2010, at 9:11 PM

I agree with you on everything except large schools. notre dam and kennett as 1 and 2 no doubt even though cape central did beat kennett, with a comfortable margin, kennett has held their own against notre dame until ND went around the lineup a few times. as far as sikeston, cape, and jackson...well its kind of hard there because all three have beaten one another. I guess after all i cant really dissagree on anything because i am not sure how i would rank those 3.

-- Posted by BB-BORE on Sun, May 23, 2010, at 10:21 PM

although i just remembered this; jackson beat cape twice and when sikeston beat cape in the conference tourny cape was playing without their starting centerfielder and either 2nd baseman or shortstop, i'm not sure and i believe they pitched their 4 man.

-- Posted by BB-BORE on Sun, May 23, 2010, at 10:27 PM

Yea that Is true

-- Posted by dukefan30 on Sun, May 23, 2010, at 11:49 PM

Yeah, but they were shut out by a freshman from Sikeston!! Don't make excuses!!

-- Posted by tlks2much on Mon, May 24, 2010, at 11:22 AM

Idc how many starters you have, if you get shutout by a FRESHMAN, that should cancel out the fact Cape threw there 3 man, as well as missing a few players.

ND

Jackson

Kennett

Sikeston

Cape

Thats my final 5, large schools. Sikeston loses 3 seniors, has more coming back then any school, probably Large or Small for SEMO.

-- Posted by Bulldogs2010 on Mon, May 24, 2010, at 4:13 PM

So just because he is a freshman you are saying that he couldnt be a very good picther. Theres a kid named Bryce Harper from Las Vegas who dropped out of high school and is playing for one of the best JUCO's in the country at 17!!!! he is projected as the number 1 draft pick for the next draft. As a freshman he hit 87mph and has hit homeruns over 500ft. It's just a fact that some kids are 'blessed' and this kid from sikeston appears to be able to reach that status if he keeps working. I have heard from some sikeston fans that they think he is the next blake dewitt.

-- Posted by BB-BORE on Mon, May 24, 2010, at 7:29 PM

Harper was 6-6 tonight with 4 HR, 3B and a 2B.

-- Posted by Larry Doby on Mon, May 24, 2010, at 9:52 PM

If you are comparing Bryce Harper to Tyler Anderson, you don't even need to be on this site. Harper is picked to be the Lebron James of Baseball. While Anderson batted 380-4-25, which is GREAT for any player, let alone a freshman, please don't use the top recruit in the nation to validate your statement. You can't use Bryce Harper to prove a point. His stats were good, but they werent far off of Nathan Rodgers, Jason Issacs,Trent McMillian, Newman, and a few others. Don't crown him Blake DeWitt yet. Blake was a special player.

Can't wait to see the next few years.

If a missing center fielder and second baseman can be used as an excuse for the cape loss against sikeston, I was simply saying that getting beat by a Freshman should cancel those two out. My point was that no matter what the circumstances, Cape just got beat by a better team on THAT day, no matter who was missing, or pitching.

Anderson is good, but if you saw the district game, he isn't NEAR Blake Dewitt. He will be the best player to come out of Sikeston since DeWitt, IF he gets stronger, cuts down on his strikeouts, and learns to play better in the playoffs. We have some good young players, Anderson is one of them. We have 4 or 5 solid players coming up.

-- Posted by Bulldogs2010 on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 1:19 AM

SEMO, if you could should me where I said Anderson wasn't a good pitcher, then I will retract my statement.

All I said was it should cancel out Cape's missing players.

-- Posted by Bulldogs2010 on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 1:20 AM

I agree......... Blake DeWitt is Blake DeWitt and let Tyler Anderson be Tyler Anderson.

He had a great season and with what Sikeston has coming back, and add a couple of JV players moving up, they are going to be fun to watch.

-- Posted by tlks2much on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 9:07 AM

I agree. We have a few tough pieces to replace, but i think we have a great squad coming back.

-- Posted by Bulldogs2010 on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 10:24 AM

Interesting national baseball poll on MaxPreps. Not that this website is the authority for baseball, nor the 'end all, be all' of baseball, but for what it's worth they have Cape ND ranked 43rd nationally.

-- Posted by GreatFun on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 9:21 PM

Bulldogs2010, i did not intead to compare him to Bryce Harper, the point i was trying to make is that there are kids out there that are just meant to play baseball and Tyler Anderson is one of them.

I was not around this area while DeWitt was playing in sikeston so my evaluations on that are of what i have heard from others. He IS just a freshman so he WILL get stronger and learn to play better in the playoffs and as for the strikeouts, as long as he stays within himself and doesnt try to prove anything to anybody than the strikeout numbers will decrease as he matures.

-- Posted by BB-BORE on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 9:43 PM

Blake's FR year, he carried his team in the playoffs, and was pretty built. This is why he is way ahead of Anderson, right now.

Tyler is a great kid, and a great athelete. If he works, he will be just fine. I don't think we should compare him to anyone. As someone earlier said, let him be himself.

-- Posted by Bulldogs2010 on Tue, May 25, 2010, at 10:45 PM

I know we shouldn't compare and this is why, I overheard a teammate of his say that Blake had some really good talent in line up around him and he was hidden pretty good his Freshman year, until late and Jacob Priday didn't even play Varsity until late in the year. Wow!

Blake is one of a kind and players like that don't come around very often and their has been many good ball players that have played in Sikeston with a great history.(just ask them) But they have different situations and times so its so hard to compare Tyler Anderson or others to him.

During Blake's era, Sikeston was the biggest 3A school in Missouri and now Sikeston is one of the smallest in 4A , so it will be much harder to advance to state.

I know its fun but that's why you can't really compare, but next year will be fun to watch.
