Posted by baseballfan2010 on Thu, Jul 29, 2010, at 6:58 PM:

Who do you guys think was the hardest throwing pitcher in Southeast Missouri this year?

Replies

I would have to say Tyler Thompson was the hardest I seen, but Im sure I havent seen all the pitchers worthy of recognition.

1. Horvath - Senath

2. Thompson - South Pem

3. Stevens - Bernie

4. Bazzell - Kennet

5. Stause - Dexter

6. Morris - Clearwater,

7. West - Poplar Bluff ( toss up for 6 and 7 spot )

8. Edwards - Cooter

9. Stockton - Twin Rivers

That's the best in order from what I've seen but I'm sure there is more

Sorry! forgot an important player , colton young from ND would be number 4 on that list

I have seen Heath Horvath and Thompson throw at their best velocity. I would say Heath Horvath was around 87 but Thompson was around 90.

If we are mentioning them in order. If West, Edwards, and Stockton deserve to be in the top 10 hardest throwers in the area. I think Kirkpatrick (Clearwater), Cody Kennedy (Meadow Heights), and John Smith (Puxico) could be in that list because all of them throw at least the same velocity as West, Edwards, and Stockton. However, it is not all about speed when it comes to being an effective pitcher.

When did you see Thompson and Horvath throw?

Jordan anderson -Cooter

Throws 86-88 and while haven this off season to get bigger and stronger im sure he will hit 90 by this spring only going in to his jr year

I've heard from a few people that Colton Young has been clocked at 90 and Trey Bazzell at 88. Regardless Southeast Missouri has been seeing some very hard fireballers recently.

I seen Thompson throw in a game this spring and Horvath in a legion game this summer.

baseballfan2010,

I've heard John Smith throws hard I only listed the players i've seen though. When I saw Kirkpatrick throw they had a gun on him and the highest he hit was 81 maybe he was having an off day or something.

I've never seen Cody Kennedy play, but I've heard West recently clocked in at a showcase at 86 and I've heard many people say stockton is about 84

Kirkpatrick at his best is around 84-85, has a good splitter to go along with it. Cody Kennedy is around 85-86 when he is at his best and has a good offspeed pitch. John Smith tops out around 84-85, seems to have a deceptive delivery, hides the ball well.

I have seen all 3 of these pitchers throw at least twice this spring, all seemed to be having their best stuff when I seen them.

I have seen many of the same kids that are mentioned on here and I just don't see the same thing. Are we talking about what a kid can throw consistently? Or are we referring to what they may top out at on a good day with a couple of pitches? Maybe some can throw like this for a few inning? I'm not hating at all. It is what it is. I just don't see it many kids who are consistently throwing as hard as some say.

Its not just about velocity that makes a pitcher good. I would take a pitcher that throws 80 while hitting his spots with good off speed pitches, than a thrower that throws 88. Yes, velocity helps, but a pitcher has to be able to hit his sports.

GSP

Yes, I am saying that these kids can top out at these speeds on their good days. They consistently are low 80s but can top out around 84-85.

I agree with GSP

I think Thompson showed that he is the best pitcher in the area by pitching 9 great innings agasinst a very good festus team in zone.

I agree...player25
