Where is the Rock Memorial located?

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, May 28, 2012, at 8:53 PM

Rock is in Imperial. Usually pull kids from Windsor, Fox and seckman. That's 3 very big high schools so they usually are pretty good.

Man I can hardly keep up with teams. So many Babe Ruths, Jr Legion, Sr Legion, and the other traveling teams, not sure what they call those. Years ago it was easy, Babe Ruth and Sr Legion. it's great that it gives opportunities for more kids to play but bad for me to keep up with them all. ha ha

-- Posted by GreatFun on Fri, Jun 1, 2012, at 8:17 AM

Just for clarity our area does have a senior babe league but it's not necessarily conference games. Both games count the same but neither matter much as we don't have a conference champion nor does your placement determine any seed. We have an open state tournament and no conference tournament as referenced in the Kennett Charleston story.

That kid is the real deal

-- Posted by baseballguy on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 10:01 PM

he lives in cape giradeau with his brother in the summer. and there isn't one. new Madrid the past three years had a California kid on their team that lived with family in the bootheel in the summers

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 10:24 PM

Wow that kid from Illinois story sure sounds fishy.

-- Posted by RBI on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 10:54 PM

Hey I'm not blaming the kid at all!!! For the record he played for me for past 5 years or so; he's very talented!!!

My question on boundaries is legitimate.

Chaffee has Cape, Jackson , marble Hill kids among others.

I always thought those 3 towns had to play for Jackson

If I'd known this; I'd kept my team together and changed my name to Cape Sr Babe Ruth..

Like anything else, can't blame coaches; they are going up go after the best talent; BUT, where's the boundary rules? Waivers?

Whole thing sounds crazy.

-- Posted by baseballguy on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 11:09 PM

And RBI; that is true; he is living with his brother in cape for this summer.

His mom who lives in dupo, I'll where he goes to school grew up in Chaffee

The kid went to Ste gen grade school & moved to Dupo 2 years ago

And is a very good kid and great family!!

-- Posted by baseballguy on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 11:12 PM

Sr. Babe Ruth is not like legion ball with its boundaries. Kids can play where they want and no waivers are needed. Has always been that way.

-- Posted by deadred on Mon, Jun 18, 2012, at 11:18 PM

Well I can tell you New Madrid has never had a kid from California on their team. He happened to be a step-son of the coach and didn't live in California.

Depending on whether or not the player has ever played for another Sr. Babe Ruth team, there are some boundary rules.

-- Posted by MayorEagle on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 5:56 AM

Babe Ruth Rule 0.01, Paragraph 5 -- Geographical Boundaries -- State Commissioners shall approve geographical boundaries established by each league in conjunction with the District Commissioner in whose district that league exists and operations. Appropriate written descriptions, maps or specifications of boundary limitations must be certified and filed with the State Commissioner and submitted to Babe Ruth League, Inc. for final approval. A player must play within the league's geographical boundaries in which the player resides. This is determined according to the legal residence of the player's parents or legal guardian. WAIVERS PERMITTING A PLAYER TO PLAY OUTSIDE OF HIS/HER GEOGRAPHICAL BOUNDARIES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN BABE RUTH LEAGUE. The only exception would be if a player rostered on a SB 12U, SB 16U, SB 18U, Cal Ripken, 13-15 baseball or 16-18 baseball team moved outside of that league's geographical boundaries. In this case, the player may finish his/her playing career in the respective division of that league.

-- Posted by baseballguy on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 6:35 AM

League geographical boundaries shall be subject to review and adjustment by the State or Regional Commissioner and Babe Ruth League, Inc. whenever it is deemed advisable. Geographical boundaries are established to eliminate competition of an undesirable nature but shall not be established to prevent healthy expansion of teams and leagues within any given area.

Even if a town or city next to or near your league is NOT involved with Babe Ruth League, or does not offer a baseball or softball program to the youth in their community, players from that area are still NOT ELIGIBLE to participate in your local league, unless your league boundaries are formally changed, signed by the State Commissioner and filed with Babe Ruth League, Inc. as including that town or city. Only the State Commissioner may approve that change and it must be in writing and on file at International Headquarters. Babe Ruth League, Inc. will make final approval of boundaries once received. Note that geographical boundaries will not be adjusted to include only a few select players. Once a boundary is approved to be expanded, ALL players from within the expanded area must be given the opportunity to play for that league.

-- Posted by baseballguy on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 6:36 AM

In Sr. Babe Ruth, the league boundaries that are followed (and have been for a long time) are the district boundaries. There are 8 districts in the state of MO. The leagues in the area are in district #3 which I can tell you goes from the Mississippi river, over at least as far as Piedmont, north past Perryville, and south to Sikeston. As far as kids who live and go to school in other areas but live local in the summer, the rules have always been in favor of the boy and where he lives in the summer. Babe Ruth is not as strict as Legion baseball, never has been. Teams in the past have had boys from Illinois as well as boys from other districts (like Sikeston). So, again, no rules are being broken here so let it go. Every team in the league has boys from all over and it has been that way for years. The only time waivers are needed is if a boy is playing outside of his district and generally is granted when there is not a local team for him to play on.

-- Posted by deadred on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 6:53 AM

Once again I didn't say anyone was breaking rules, was just clearing up the kid on New Madrid's team.

The only rule that has ever really applied to the Sr. Babe Ruth, just like the Jr. Babe Ruth is if the player had played on another Sr. Babe, or Jr. Babe team and that team was still playing he would not be eligible to change teams unless a waiver from the Commish of the league was issued.

-- Posted by MayorEagle on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 7:26 AM

I don't think that is really a rule bc Scott foster played for Chaffee last year and is playing for bluff this year. Connor Scott went from the squirrels to Chaffee. Jesse Schott went from the squirrels to Jackson sr babe last year. we are some corrupt people I tell ya what

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 7:36 AM

Unless the prior coach has an issue with it, it will be allowed.

I can guarantee you if the coach from the prior team raises a flag it will be questioned.

-- Posted by MayorEagle on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 7:41 AM

I can guarantee you that it does not matter if a coach from a prior team had a problem with it or not, movement between teams from year to year is allowed and not controlled.

-- Posted by deadred on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 7:46 AM

This will be my last comment on the matter; obviously gotten too personal when folks are texting me on my personal line

Obviously everyone gas interpretations on what has always been the case; which us fine--but somewhere there has to be rules.

If not, anybody can put a team together, slap a babe Ruth tag on it, and join the league.

Yes I coached a club team, had kids from 9 different high schools on it, was very competitive. Reason I gave it up-- people wouldn't play me during week because we weren't affiliated with anyone

To each is own, not attacking anyone or any team; all babe Ruth teams are doing it.

If there's no rules, then no rules and go recruit!!

Good luck to all-- bottom line, there's some good ball players here in semo!!

-- Posted by baseballguy on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 8:01 AM

If I am not mistaken don't all of these SR. teams play out of the Dexter league? and if so, what are the boundaries on file for that league? as long as an athlete lives within the boundaries for the league they are eligible. how they get assigned to teams within the league is up to each individual league,

-- Posted by batterup42 on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 9:30 AM

on a more important and impressive note in the last three games (20 innings) chaffees Connor Scott, Andrew Dooley, Jesse shelton, and Jimmy Dickerson have combined to allow 4 hits.

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 10:41 AM

Sounds like a solid pitching staff.

-- Posted by spork24 on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 12:05 PM

deadred----If the boundaries are the district boundaries, does that mean if there are 5 teams in that district a kid can play for ANY of those teams? Jackson has a Sr babe team along with Chaffee...Can kids who live in Jackson play for the Chaffee team just because they are in the same district? I know the Charleston had a couple of kids from Cooter last year.

-- Posted by bulletman on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 12:43 PM

Yes, they can play on any team in the district. Each of the Sr. Babe Ruth teams in the league this year have kids from all over. Several of the boys in the league have switched teams over the last few years also and there is never any issue other than a coach wishing they wouldn't have. Sr. Babe Ruth has had this open policy for as long as I know. The league (based out of Dexter) could have instated a rule that says boys have to play in their area but that has never been done. So yes, there is a level of recruiting that has been done. Coach Minner was the fore-runner in doing that and has done a great job in getting the best talent. Over the last few years, Chaffee and now New Madrid and Poplar Bluff have joined in and the league is very strong.

-- Posted by deadred on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 12:56 PM

Thanks---Doesn't Kennett have an SBR team also?

-- Posted by bulletman on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 1:16 PM

Glad to hear the the Dickerson kid is playing well. He played 7th grade basketball for me at perryville and was a great kid. He worked hard and was very talented which is a good combunation. He and his family decided that Dupo would be a better environment for him and he moved there in the 8th grade. Chaffee semoball posters Keep me updated and tell him coach Deckerd says hello.

-- Posted by deckerd31 on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 2:08 PM

The SBR league in the area includes Charleston Squirrels, Charleston Woodpeckers, Jackson, Chaffee, Poplar Bluff, Kennett, and New Madrid. The SBR state tourney this year is at Charleston starting July 7th (or so). It is an open tourney so any SBR team is the state can participate. I would expect that there will be 10-12 teams.

people that have seen all play, maybe just Dustin, but give us your rankings of sr babe Ruth teams out of Jackson, new Madrid, Kennett, Chaffee, poplar bluff, and charleston

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 9:09 AM

1. Poplar Bluff

2. New Madrid

3. Chaffee

4. Kennett

5. Jackson

6. Charleston

Dustin- when does that state tournament start? Should be a good one, anybody could win it. Who else will be in it? Does anyone know?

-- Posted by Daniel LaRusso on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 9:29 AM

I think Jackson at 6 is pretty clear cut, they havent won but like 5 games and they are so banged up by injuries.. their number 1 and 2 pitchers are out and their number 3 just came back

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 9:45 AM

These teams are pretty deep, but it is clear that when certain pitchers are on the mound, the team plays better. I have seen this personally with Chaffee, Charleston, & New Madrid.

Chaffee played particularly well when that kid from Dupo, was on the mound.

-- Posted by baseball_observer on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 10:20 AM

^^^ yes he is the real deal. He played for me the last 6 years and whenever we needed a W , I'd say go get it big boy..

Good kid, glad to see he's having sone success!!

Hopefully someone will give him a shot at the next level, he deserves it and has worked hard to get where he's at..

-- Posted by baseballguy on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 11:28 AM

I would like to know how fast these kids are pitching, Including the Dupo kid. There are a few pitchers I have seen that are throwing very well and very hard. Anyone have a radar gun? We really do have some great talent in SEMO to observe.

-- Posted by baseball_observer on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 2:07 PM

Dupo kid is prolly 83-84 woodard was 83-85 kayser was 84 on the gun when 3rivers was there.

-- Posted by Kidrayray on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 2:23 PM

That was going to be my guess, maybe even higher on some pitches. Dupo Kid (New Name, I guess) seriously seems to get faster as the game goes on, no joke. I would like to see the gun on him.

-- Posted by baseball_observer on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 2:30 PM

Jimmy Dickerson is his name I believe.

-- Posted by Kidrayray on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 2:44 PM

Kayser is getting a look from 3r?

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 5:12 PM

They were looking at fox from bloomfield. Kayser happened to throw that day.

-- Posted by Kidrayray on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 9:01 PM

Looks like PB is the deepest in pitching. Their top 5 or 6 kids are all very solid. They don't really have an ace just a bunch of good pitchers.

New Madrid defeats Kennett Senior Babe Ruth 12-4.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 10:17 PM

Daniel LaRusso

There will be additonal teams from outside the southeast Missouri region in the tournament. The tournament should start July 7.

Chaffee and Poplar Bluff are really good. But the talent level in Senior Babe Ruth is high enough every team can beat every team. It is not like high school baseball season.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 2:08 AM

I know New Madrid and Kennett have at least one win against Poplar Bluff this season. Unsure if Charleston does.

Not sure how teams have performed head-to-head against Chaffee.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 2:23 AM

Chaffee's struggles have come against New Madrid for some reason, losing 3 of 4 to them. They've beat the Squirrels 2 of 3, Jackson 2 of 3, 10-runned Kennet the game at the Charleston tourney and split with Poplar Bluff (with 3 starters missing). I think Chaffee's pitching is just as deep as anyone with Jamie Brant, Jimmie Dickerson, Andrew Dooley, Connor Scott, Neil Johnson, Cody Payne as starters with several others who can relieve. I'm not sure about the other teams in the state but I'm sure there will be some good ones coming to the State tournament in Charleston next week. Should be some good baseball.

-- Posted by deadred on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 7:13 AM

Thanks Dustin. Any word on a bracket? Should be a very competitive tournament.

-- Posted by Daniel LaRusso on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 9:55 AM

The bracket may be released this weekend.

I'd acutally be interested in hearing information on which teams from outside the immediate area will compete in the tournament / how they have performed this year.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 12:05 PM

Yes, I am very excited to see the bracket. When it comes out, will it be available somewhere online? I would think so, but where?

-- Posted by baseball_observer on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 2:57 PM

baseball_observer

We don't have the software to create a double elimination winner- take-all bracket because of the bracket's unusual format

However, I will post a schedule for the tournament when I receive one.

Chaffee won 7-6 in wild game

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Fri, Jun 29, 2012, at 8:44 PM

Chaffee lost 10-8, on a side note Cavaness was 3-4 with 3 home runs

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Sat, Jun 30, 2012, at 2:38 PM

Who did Chaffee play.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sat, Jun 30, 2012, at 2:44 PM

Chaffee played Creve Couer Sr. Legion and was up 7-3 at one point. Chaffee lost the next game 5-4 to Pittsfield Sr. Legion. In that game Caveness was 3-4 with 3 doubles.

-- Posted by deadred on Sun, Jul 1, 2012, at 9:48 AM

I had heard that Chaffee went to play in the Elsberry Wood Bat Tournament. I'm not sure how accurate that is, since it was second-hand information.

-- Posted by gianthook on Sun, Jul 1, 2012, at 10:22 AM

Its a shame Caveness didn't focus on baseball...That kid is a special talent. Good Luck to him wherever he goes to college.

-- Posted by bulletman on Sun, Jul 1, 2012, at 12:33 PM

Christian Caveness is going to Lindenwood University in Belleville, IL to play football and baseball both. Andrew Dooley from the Chaffee team is also going there for baseball. There is a chance a couple other boys from the Chaffee team, as well as a few others from this area are going there in the fall to join a few from this area already there. There is a lot of talent in this area and a small college like Lindenwood Belleville has done well in recruiting from this area.
