why does sikeston legion still exist? two years ago they had about 7 kids quit, last year they had Anderson n Harper half the time and this year they've forfeited a ton.
-- Posted by sportsnerd on Fri, Jul 20, 2012, at 8:35 PM
sportsnerd - untrue statement, three games were forfeited this year by sikeston st legion. one game at the charleston tournament due to 4 players taking act test, one scheduled game with dunklin county due to several players playing two team and not available and then last night one short of guideline rules, three could not get off work one playing on another team and unsure of the other one.
I understand about the act and working.
-- Posted by Katy on Sat, Jul 21, 2012, at 7:43 AM
There are several opportunities to take the ACT. If one is going to commit to play Legion baseball, it is absolutely crucial for the coaches to be able to count on having the team there. One's electing to miss games effects others, especially the members of each team. This is no different than committing to a team during the school year. It seems these conflicts in addition to others, such as playing on other teams are essentially going to force the American Legion teams to cease. This is a shame, but fiascos such as this should not continue.

that's not an untrue statement, forfeiting one game is a ton.. you can carry 18 players if u cant get 12, 66.666666% of your players to show up then if seems like the team shouldn't exist, not the coaches fault that the players aren't dedicated but it's a load of bs to the other kids who have been committed to have their season of summer ball be a waste bc you couldn't compete, in the charleston tournament they forfeited which actually cost them extra games and by forfeiting last night it cost them an extra game. not fair to the ones who did show up.
-- Posted by sportsnerd on Sat, Jul 21, 2012, at 9:02 AM
Glad someone's on board; some want to justify missing by saying "it's for the kids," yet they seem to forget the "other" kids who are dependable!

Maybe one should look elsewhere for the problem. Why do so many players choose to play elsewhere in the summer. (5 starters from sikeston high school). Could it be the problem doesn't originate with the players. Just saying.
