I know all the hype right now is focused primaly on football, but basketball is rolling around the corner, faster then we realize.... Who are going to be the powerhouses this year? What teams have made drastic improvements? I don't know much about the smaller schools excpet SCC, so could someone feel me in?
But what i do know about is Sikeston, as i am an avid basketball fan....
This summer(i know, i know its summer ball but still) Sikeston beat a couple of powerhouses out of arkansas and tennennsse, West memphis and White haven, White haven being in the 6a state championship last year... I know with their full team they went undefeated the entire summer, I know they lost to SCC but 1 point, but they were missing a few key players, and no i'm not trying to get a Sikeston/SCC battle going... And i know they running clocked ND, so my question is, whose going to stop these two from making it to state?
Just to clarify...a hybrid Sikeston team lost to SCC by 1 in the spring. The full Sikeston squad went undefeated in the summer when they had some real coaching!!! LOL!! That's a jab at myself....in case anyone is wondering!
I think the Dogs will be the team to beat this year! I'm ready for some hoops!!!!

Kennett should have a good team in class three.

Cape central should be good, they have a new transfer student that can ball.

My stats are always right rocket, and semoballfan i've been hearing that also, hopefully this year (not bashing in anyway) sikeston actually shows up and plays, should be a good game...
Also as i stated on semosportsweb, sikeston might be getting a student they had that goes to mcluer north, 6 6' i hear he's a monster

Rocket, if you are who I "think" you are, you could not coach the 1992 Olympic Dream team to a SEMO conference JV championship!!!!!
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 10:21 AM
Wow, Hemingway....I'll give you props for creativity! I hear ya....all I had to do was roll out the basketballs, wash the jerseys, and get the boys to the games on time!
That is a LITTLE harsh....surely I could have coached them to a JV converence title! LOL!
Just for kicks, who do you "think" I am??? I have no idea who you are!
-- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 11:25 AM
Rocket---are you wanting me to give you clues to who you are or what? I think I have a bead on you, do you play a little golf during the summertime?
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 11:53 AM
I've been known to play a round of golf or two. How about some clues about you? Are you 6'8", ugly, and look like you are a member of the Aryan nation?
-- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 12:02 PM
Wow Rocket, try to use a little tact when describing yours truly. I'm almost a foot shorter than that and I don't think that I'm ugly. I might have you all messed up because I thought for sure I might have saw you on the PGA qualifier tour the last few summers. Regardless, you "might" be able to get a win coaching if your playing against some old people in Donkey Basketball!
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 12:29 PM
check that---"coaching" against some old people in Donkey Basketball! You said you coached, right?

Hemingway...I thought I knew who you are....guess not...my apologies. No I'm not on the PGA qualifier tour....I'm not quite that good, although I am a single digit handicap.
Yes, I said coached.
Where do you call home??

I hail from O'er in the Mountains Rocket689! Occasionally we will all get bored and get to go to the city for groceries and such. Single digit handicap? Geesh. I bet you count every stroke, don't ya? Mulligans, footwedge and a pencil with an eraser will "easily" get you to a single digit handicap these days, won't it? So where did you get your coaching philosophy from, just wondering? Sikeston has had a pretty decent program here lately haven't they?
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 1:06 PM
O'er in the mountains....as in Dexter or PB?
Yea, single digit...I can play to it at Sikeston CC anyways!!! LOL!
Coaching philosophy.....been to the Wooden, Jackson, Holifield school of coaching!!!
Sikeston has had a VERY good team the past 5 to 6 years!
-- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 1:26 PM
My friend Armondo who moved to cape should be a good player for you guys too.
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 2:18 PM
More towards PB and maybe further than that! "Just" because I think I know who YOU are doesn't mean you have an inkling of a clue of who I am now does it? Holifield had a school of coaching? And when did you go to Wooden or Jackson's school of coaching? I wouldn't doubt that you run the picked fence offense! I am gonna say that I'd tee it up anytime with you for about 20 dollars a hole/double on birdies/triple on eagles. I'd be in that pocketbook I'd bet!
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 2:18 PM
Wow! How many shots do I get? 6 a side??
I have no idea who you are...however, I'd play Tiger with enough strokes.

I could beat y'all both in golf.

What?? Tigger Woods off of Winnie the Pooh?haha BuckMajor, from where your from I doubt you could even spell "fore" the correct way could ya? I bet I could best ball against both of yours scramble and still end up making enough money to go to Hydes and eat fish this Friday night! And no CrotchRocket, you'd get no strokes from me! Straight up, just like Paula Abdul sung about back in 1988!
-- Posted by Hemingway on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 2:33 PM
Haha I'm also a single digit handicap and two time state qualifier in high school. I don't need to be able to spell or say fire because I always hit it straight. And we could so beat you scrambling!
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Wed, Oct 20, 2010, at 2:35 PM
Im not trying to start anything but Sikeston really wasnt that good over the summer. I went to there games at the SEMO tournament and they had good guard play but have no one that can handdle the post. Cape really was the best looking team in it from the area. I know i am a cape fan but honestly, they really did look solid.. Starting Line up for cape 6'6, 6'6, 6'5, 6'2, and 6'1. They only lost 1 starter last year and a transfer came in from Arkansas to take his spot who will be by far the best guard in southeast missouri.I wouldnt really look over central this year.

Whether Sikeston "looked" good in the summer is a matter of opinion and you're entitled to that. What is FACT is that Sikeston dominated every team they played this summer and went a combined 40-0 with varsity and JV.

-- Posted by Hemingway on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 8:40 AM
For the first time in probably 5 or 6 years, the big game of the year won't be Sikeston/ND but will probably be Sikeston/Cape. With Cape beating Sikeston last year and one of the teams looking for revenge after tonight, it should be a great game. And maybe this will be the last year that Sikeston isn't in the SEMissourian Christmas Tournament.
-- Posted by Fatboy1972 on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 9:07 AM
Why would this be the last year Sikeston isn't in the Christmas tournament, is someone planning on dropping out?
-- Posted by badams2s on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 9:10 AM
I dont think anyone will drop out of the SE Christmas Tourny. It gives those small schools a chance to play in the Show Me Center and compete against great teams like Scott Co. and Notre Dame. I would like to see Sikeston in because it would make the tournament better.
-- Posted by PO526 on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 10:05 AM
I don't know if anybody is dropping out. It's just wishful thinking. I think Sikeston is next on the list of teams to get in but I don't see anyone dropping out anytime soon.
-- Posted by Fatboy1972 on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 10:25 AM
Sikeston's been on that "list" to get in to the Christmas Tournament since the 80s.
I think everybody would like to see Sikeston in this tournament. They bring great crowds and great competition. But until somebody dropped out (which will never happen), then they will still be traveling to Tim-buk-too to play over Christmas break.

Ctjungle, if you want to start a thread on complaining about not having fun you and semosports have a hay day, heaven forbid people do that anymore.. And yes but we have the weekend off... starts again monday at 6 30 am, you can come along haha
-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 3:16 PM
Bernie will be visiting Sikeston again this year and i'm sure the outcome may be the same but we love playing sikeston because playing better teams makes us better. JV hung with sikeston jv pretty close this summer
-- Posted by BBfanatic on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 4:08 PM
Most of us can pretty much predict the teams to beat once again in the area, i.e. Scott Co., and Sikeston, but who can find the 'surprise' team out there? I will admit that I cannot at this point. I think Jackson might be a little down, as well as ND, and Cape Central should look very solid. But I just have to believe that Porter at SCC will just have his way with EVERYONE. If he has any kind of supporting cast, they shouldn't lose a game.
-- Posted by GreatFun on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 4:18 PM
Ernest, if I get a booger flicked on me, I'll know its you!! LOL!

SCC has a tough schedule this yr playing some really good teams from IL AR KY AND TN not to mention some pretty good local teams.they will play Chicago whitney young at marion il in dec.also playing in the Marshall county shootout this yr. Look for bravettes to turn a few heads in class 1 young butt scrappy
-- Posted by braves win on Thu, Oct 21, 2010, at 9:58 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot that Scott Co plays Chicago Whitney Young this year. Wow, I cannot wait to see how Porter performs against them, and neither can the college recruiters. THESE are the games they watch for the most.
-- Posted by GreatFun on Fri, Oct 22, 2010, at 8:43 AM
I think that Sikeston is the team to beat but watch out for Notre Dame in that district. They are going to be better than what people think. Also, What does charleston have coming back? are they going to be any good?
-- Posted by PO526 on Fri, Oct 22, 2010, at 12:06 PM
bigelw your right. Central's new transfer is out the 1st semester they're hoping he will be eligible for the Christmas Tourney. Also will be without another starting guard for the last 2 year for the 1st semester with an torn ACL.
-- Posted by ctjungle11 on Tue, Oct 26, 2010, at 11:36 PM
Actually from what I've heard, SCC plays Chicago Simeon in the Best of the Midwest Shootout in Marion Il. Simeon is the defending large school state champion in Illinois after beating Whitney Young in the finals. They have 3 players in the 2012 and 2013 class that are top 100, including 6'6" Jabari Parker who many consider top 5 in the class of 2013.
Other teams SCC plays include:
Riverbend Shootout:
- North Little Rock Ark
- East Poinsett Co Ark (features 6'5"pg Ky Madden top 20 c/o 2011)
Marshall County Hoopfest
- Graves County Ky (perennially strong program that won 25 games last season..I highly recommend going to this event...it is the premier high school shootout in the country, with several top players and teams, including preseason #1 Memphis Melrose)
Best of the Midwest in Marion IL
- Chicago Simeon (see above description...another great event that typically has top ranked teams and players)
Eiffel Tower Shootout in Paris TN
- v. Bolivar Central Tn (defending Class 2 state champ (TN only has 3 public school classes))

I don't know if anybody is dropping out. It's just wishful thinking. I think Sikeston is next on the list of teams to get in but I don't see anyone dropping out anytime soon.
Sikeston's been on that "list" to get in to the Christmas Tournament since the 80s.
I think everybody would like to see Sikeston in this tournament. They bring great crowds and great competition. But until somebody dropped out (which will never happen), then they will still be traveling to Tim-buk-too to play over Christmas break.
if you guys want to start a forum called "lets guess who Hemingway is" go ahead but come on lets talk about high school basketball...and i agree cape will be tough to beat when their full strength
Inspectorgadget, aren't you supposed to be practicing 'rasslin or something young man. And Rocket--change of plans. I could be sitting right next to you tonight and you'll never know it (if my guess is right)! I'll be close enough to flick a booger on you possibly!! LOL!!!
Ctjungle, if you want to start a thread on complaining about not having fun you and semosports have a hay day, heaven forbid people do that anymore.. And yes but we have the weekend off... starts again monday at 6 30 am, you can come along haha
Bernie will be visiting Sikeston again this year and i'm sure the outcome may be the same but we love playing sikeston because playing better teams makes us better. JV hung with sikeston jv pretty close this summer
Ernest, if I get a booger flicked on me, I'll know its you!! LOL!
CTjungle, stop crying....
Oh yeah, Hemingway....GO DAWGS!!
Oh yeah, I forgot that Scott Co plays Chicago Whitney Young this year. Wow, I cannot wait to see how Porter performs against them, and neither can the college recruiters. THESE are the games they watch for the most.
I think that Sikeston is the team to beat but watch out for Notre Dame in that district. They are going to be better than what people think. Also, What does charleston have coming back? are they going to be any good?
bigelw your right. Central's new transfer is out the 1st semester they're hoping he will be eligible for the Christmas Tourney. Also will be without another starting guard for the last 2 year for the 1st semester with an torn ACL.
Kennett Indians. It's the year of the Tribe!
USA today has Simeon ranked #10 in the country.GOOD LUCK SCC!!!
Looks like SCC has a very, very tough schedule this year. If they can pull out some wins against these out of state ball clubs I will go ahead and write them down for going 3 in-a-row. Actually I might want to go ahead and do that today.
