  • I can't believe the Tigers haven't been able to pull away from Kennett. Still got work to do before getting to where they need to be; maybe football has kept 'em from being ready yet. Kennett might just surprise a few people this year.

I gotta say big win for Kennett. I prolly would have picked cville. This for about the fourth year in a row should be a great class 3 district 1!

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 9:01 PM
  • I definitely would have though c ville would have won by 10+. but that's why you play the game. And dont count c ville out. Come districts time they will be very dangerous

-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 9:11 PM
  • Hey cheese could you give us a break down for the scoring column for c ville. I'd appreciate it when you get a chance

  • D Ruby...That's crickets you are hearing on the Kennett-Cville game.

-- Posted by Pete Sims on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:48 PM
  • *

    Steve Rogers had 20 pts

    Monroe had 19

    Fonda had 10+

    J.Johnson had 10+

Not sure on exact points but we had 4 guys in double figures.

Caruthersville had numerous chances of getting back into the ball game but couldn't hit easy shots. They are small in size so they get out rebounded badly. I think at times, they play a little to fast that leads to turnovers. Cville will be fine though. They are a young team, they are going to have bad nights like tonight. Proud of them though, they played hard. Just gotta work on a few things to be considered an "Elite" Semo team. I have a feeling Kennett will be seeing us again come Conference Tourney time.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:49 PM
  • *

What crickets you talking about? I support my team win or lose. I don't come and go as my team wins or loses. I never claimed Cville to be the best team in Semo. I've always said we have work to do. Kennett will see us again.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:50 PM
  • *

Cheese, you've talked about these missed easy shots after every game. Sounds like that is going to be an area of focus over the Christmas break. With a guy as big and athletic as Darrell, I don't see how they struggle with rebounding.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:56 PM
  • Well said Cheesehead.

-- Posted by Lovebasketball on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:56 PM
  • *

Darrell don't struggle with rebounding but everyone else does. He can't get every rebound by himself. Also, he was in foul trouble tonight so couldn't be as aggressive. Your right, when you can't hit a layup in the open court with no one defending you, that is a missed easy shot. Cville still has plenty of work to do during the break.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:58 PM
  • Wow! I totally missed that one! I thought Kennett's lack of guard play would catch up with them against Cville. Sounds like a nice win for Kennett. I still wouldn't count out Cville.

    -- Posted by Rocket689 on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 10:58 PM
  • Might be a different outcome during the conference Tourney, which will be at C'Ville.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Tue, Dec 6, 2011, at 11:02 PM
  • Big Big Big win for Kennett tonight. Neither team was great and both need to work on both sides of the ball. Haven't seen Charleston play yet but I will say as of right now they or hands down the favorite in the district.

I agree Mule, both teams played sloppy at time on both sides of the ball. Come conference time, both teams will be better.

Kennett had two players I was very impressed with. Not sure on their names but their numbers was 1 and 20.

  • Bernie 67 Scott City 53 Final. Bernie did get David Baker back last night from injury.

  • bluegold, your tune has changed greatly with regards to your opinion of the Scott City Rams.

-- Posted by GSP on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 9:09 AM
  • I was just going off what you said in another thread. I think Scott City plays the Bulldogs soon. I'm just trying to get a gauge on how good they are.

-- Posted by GSP on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 9:44 AM
  • i have seen SC play a couple times, and while they may not be ready for Scott County or Charleston, they should compete well in their conference. They are continuing their late season improvement from last year. Should compete well for the consolation in the Xmas tourn, if they do not win the first game.

-- Posted by khan on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 10:38 AM

It seats 1500+ and by the seating from the last few conference tourney's, its not any worse than anywhere else. The only big crowds we will have will be from Kennet, Caruthersville or maybe Portageville. So seating shouldn't be a problem. I agree very nice gym though. My only problem with it is this, why have a concession stand if your not going to allow any food or drinks in the gym? Are there any other gyms out there with that rule? Just curious because I have never been to a gym that didn't allow food or drinks.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 12:03 PM
  • *

Seriously!? That's one of the strangest rules I have ever heard. Bet that gets changed soon, or they just stop having a concession stand.

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 12:14 PM
  • *

I've been to a couple of places like that. It's a good way for your concession stand to NOT make money.

  • *

I thought it was just me lol.. I really don't understand it. I mean I get that they have a new gym and want to keep it clean and everything but people get thirsty and hungry watching some basketball and want to enjoy their drinks at their seats. Hopefully they will change that soon.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 12:34 PM
  • *

The Sikeston Fieldhouse used to have that rule. I think it was back in the mid 90s.

I love popcorn, but I sure wouldn't eat it out in the lobby haha :)

  • 1500? Maybe I'm wrong. Nice gym anyways.

    -- Posted by mule1993 on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 3:01 PM
  • Bluegold, how do you know that leopold or bernie are not on their game? I learned last year you never count out the Mules, ever.

-- Posted by GSP on Wed, Dec 7, 2011, at 3:35 PM
  • Bluegold is definitely undervaluing the Mules victory last night. Considering they still have one of their key starters out for 1 more game, just got their best post player back last night in baker who was only playing about 80% and they have at least 3 sophomores playing significant minutes on the varsity, Bernie is no where close to being at the top of their game.

I will give him this, that Scott city does play decent pressure defense but their help defense is lacking bad which showed last night in multiple backdoor lobs and layups. For being a guard dominated team they did not handle Bernie's pressure very well last night and they didn't hit but 1 or 2 there's all night also.

If these 2 teams played again in mid-January I woukd take Bernie by 10+ again but that's just basing that off what I seen last night and who I know Bernie has becoming available in the next few games.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Dec 8, 2011, at 7:39 PM

I think Cville is letting some bench players get some playing time to get more exp. Now a couple more starters are not playing this quarter. I like the move though. Will help bench get better.

That Jones is a player. Is there a reason he don't start?

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Dec 8, 2011, at 8:35 PM
  • *

He's a sophomore. The starting lineup is four seniors and a junior. They all have a lot of talent. Besides, with the way Sikeston plays, he essentially sees the same type of minutes that most of the starters do anyway.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Dec 8, 2011, at 8:38 PM
  • *

I thought Sikeston had a fairly young team. Well it looks like they will have a great player in Jones. It's nice to have someone like that come off the bench

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Dec 8, 2011, at 8:40 PM
  • *

On the bench are Jones (sophomore), Bratcher (junior), Gross (junior), Sheehy (junior), and Porter (sophomore). Harris (junior) and Ray (sophomore) also see very limited minutes. There is a lot of youth plus some guys on the JV who would be contributing in a lot of places.

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Fri, Dec 9, 2011, at 11:28 AM
  • I've witnessed every game Oran has played this year and my opinion of them is an average team on a good day. They're lacking in defense and their ball movement is below average. They do have the Moore kid who can get hot at times and the Ressel kid who is only a sophomore. Majority of their scoring comes from the guards. My prediction: SC 10+.
