Charleston 23-12 at the end of 1. Kennett got off to a nice start but they can't handle the pressure.

The Hayti radio announcers are really ripping the officials!

What station?

-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:07 PM

Hayti makes a running 3 from the volleyball line to make it 17-15 Holcomb at the half.

game on C'Ville station (kcrv-am)

Regarding the radio guys from Hayti, the NEVER give stat updates, biased as heck and are always hounding the referees. I like Caruthersville's radio guy, he can paint a picture in your head and keeps up to date on stats, even points scored by a certain player in a quarter..I do believe they have the right to lean a little towards the team the are announcing for but try to be professional about it.

-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:39 PM

The radio guys are questioning several calls, plus giving the name of the official who makes the calls, which is pretty tacky!

-- Posted by semo7178 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:42 PM

If this game turns into a free-throw shooting contest, Hayti will be in trouble.

-- Posted by semo7178 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:43 PM

40-38 Holcomb with 3 to go.

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:43 PM

41-40 Hayti 2:30 left.

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:45 PM

I agree semo went to the Hayti/North Pem game a week ago and Humes airballed a free throw missed the front of the rim by 6 feet...I nearly fell outta my seat.

-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:45 PM

Really not a question about this game, but does the Hayti scoreboard operator ever put up who the fouls are called on? I am used to seeing that at most gyms but didn't see it at all the two nights I was there this week.

-- Posted by bluemules89 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:46 PM

Sounds like a heck of a game!

-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:47 PM

Hayti 44-42 1:00 left Holcomb ball

-- Posted by hayti1 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:49 PM

44-42 Hayti with 1:06, Holcomb with ball.

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:49 PM

are you there hayti1?

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:50 PM

44-44......OT!

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:51 PM

What a good district. Hayti and pville tied up and Hayti wins on a hail Mary at the buzzer. Bernie and Holcomb go into double OT before Holcomb wins. Now the championship is an OT game. A lot of evenly matched teams.

-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:55 PM

There were none at the Risco / Hayti game either.

-- Posted by TigerMom14 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:56 PM

48-46 Hayti Holcomb ball 2:22 left

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:56 PM

@bluemule reference to fouls on scoreboard at hayti. They must not post them.

-- Posted by TigerMom14 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 8:58 PM

looks like Hayti might pull it out, if they can hit some FTs.

-- Posted by TigerMom14 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:01 PM

Holcomb had their chances... big win for Hayti. Great seasons for both teams!

thanks for the updates

Could be the most contested District this year. All 4 teams fought hard, and Good Luck to Hayti on the rest of the way!

-- Posted by TheSentinel on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:12 PM

Wow !! Congrats to Hayti . Conference tournament and district Champs ! They really play great it tournaments and are tough at home !!

-- Posted by jpaawhite on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:20 PM

Wow! The last two nights at Hayti have been unbelievable! A three point buzzer beat for Hayti last night, Bernie and Holcomb double overtime, the overtime tonight. I wonder if there has ever been a district this close?? I thought that any of the top four teams could possibly win it. It really lived up to everyone's expectations. I really thought Bernie was the best team and should have won it,it just didn't happen. But all these teams and their kids played with tremendous heart. That's what high school basketball is all about. Congratulations to Hayti! As a fan, I want to thank all of those teams for a great tournament!

-- Posted by paulm on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:20 PM

Incredibly hard fought game. Just very tough to survive a low scoring game when te other team banks in a pair of 30 foot shots. Those were back breakers

-- Posted by No sir on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:24 PM

Bernie will be back and they only lose Bryce Rodgers

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:32 PM

Congrats Hayti

-- Posted by BBfanatic on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:32 PM

As a neutral fan there, I'd say that no team had an advantage over the other with the officials. They missed calls on both sides. Massey walked a few times but so did Humes for Hayti and none was called. They missed a few fouls on both teams under the basket but none more than the other! Hayti just wanted it more tonight! They got down early in the game but never gave up! That is a scrappy team! That was a great game from both teams. Holcomb has nothing to be down about, I'm sure they will be back in the hunt next year! Big grats to Hayti for wining the district championship this year.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 9:43 PM

Congrats Hayti District Champs

-- Posted by stlfan38 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 10:03 PM

I will admit I am a Holcomb alumni and fan but in my opinion the officiating was very one sided down the stretch. It seemed to me that every crucial call went haytis way. Holcomb was called for touch calls butcher Hayti mauled them all night long. With that being said that's not the reason they lost the game, they were very sloppy the majority of the game and had several chances at the end of the fourth and in ot to either pull away or tie the game back up. Congratulations to the hayi Indians though, they played with amazing energy and got the trophy that's all that matters when the final buzzer sounds.

-- Posted by hornets2010 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 10:04 PM

But Hayti o meant to say

-- Posted by hornets2010 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 10:34 PM

As a Hornet fan, I can't agree. All 3 games of this tournament, more fouls were called on the opposing team than on us. I think Massey committed one foul in 3 games. It's hard to complain about the officiating when that's the case. Touch fouls were called on the outside, and you could mug someone in the lane. Although there were a few touch fouls inside "and ones" for Jamie Massey. I honestly didn't see a foul on any of those scenarios. Can't blame this on the officiating at all. I blame it on timely plays made by Hayti and key free throws made. Holcomb was in the bonus the majority of the 2nd half and Hayti didn't get into it until it was almost time for Holcomb to foul them on purpose. Great year for both teams.

-- Posted by GoHornets84 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 10:44 PM

I agree to disagree on that one, but the officials didn't lose them the ball game. Up until the end of the fourth and again in overtime Holcomb really layed an egg. Too many bad decisions on their passes and a very sloppy game overall

-- Posted by hornets2010 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 11:12 PM

Great game and great season from both teams, glad I was able to be there to witness it. The boys from both sides had alot of class and Holcomb should hold their heads high, they are a good ball team!!!

-- Posted by hayti1 on Fri, Mar 2, 2012, at 11:36 PM

Jamie took a beating tonight. Once again take away 6 points on banked in accidents and Holcomb wins by 6 just like the first two contests. Would hardly say that meant Hayti wanted it more. Both teams fought extremely hard and I am proud of the boys. Nearly impossible to eat a team 3 times in a year, the third on their home floor. Combine that with the tough breaks mentioned above from those two shots, and it just wasn't the hornets night. Good luck to Hayti an once again proud of our kids on a phenomenal year

-- Posted by No sir on Sat, Mar 3, 2012, at 2:41 PM

No disrespect to any if the teams involved but this was 4 very above average teams that were evenly matched. Bernie lost several players this season for off the court problems. Pville lost arguably the best player in the booth eel to off the court issues. On top of that Bernie graduated a lot from last years team. So add it all up this district was pretty evenly matched because there was no great team in it. Bernie is going to be great for the next 2 years. Holcomb will come back strong next yr again for sure. This year Hayti came through so let's all root for them to go all the way.

-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Sat, Mar 3, 2012, at 2:55 PM

The big difference in that game last night came down to one thing. The easy shots Hayti was missing in the first half, started to fall in the second half. Refs didn't win this game for either team. Hayti came out in the 2nd half and started shooting better and just out hustled Holcomb. As for Massey taking a beating, that could have been said about a few players from Hayti. Game was very physical on both ends. Just quit complaining you lost because of a few lucky shots and calls not going your way late in the game. Holcomb had a good year, time to focus on how to get better next season.
