One of the things I really like about this shootout is the matching of talent. Sikeston plays Charleston, Maplewood, Liberty, Jackson-Southside, TN, and Dyer County. All of those could be interesting games.

Bernie went 4-0 on the day.
Bernie beat Sturgeon 42 - 21 in the rematch.
-- Posted by BBfanatic on Fri, Jun 8, 2012, at 5:51 PM
Maplewood Richmond-Heights is not playing. Sikeston is scheduled to play them first today, but they will be matched with someone else.

Anybody know how Sikeston did yesterday? I'm not in town.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Jun 9, 2012, at 12:06 PM
Know they beat dyer county, lost to jackson tn southside and lost in sudden death to charleston.
-- Posted by lastride67 on Sat, Jun 9, 2012, at 12:16 PM
Sikeston also beat Liberty.
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Sat, Jun 9, 2012, at 1:44 PM
Bernie went 7-1 at the Rib City Shootout losing to Liberty. They also won the Championship of their Bracket.

Sikeston loss to Jackson Mo missed 15+ layups. I know its just summer ball. But wow we arent that far out of basketball season..lol Their were some good showcase of teams this year.Seems like the shootout is getting bigger and better. I know people are gonna say all players werent there. But all of SHS starters were there.Good job Bernie you guys look really great.

Should make sikeston fans appreciate Holifield more. They haven't practiced so they were just playing. Bad misconception is that they are so talented and in reality have very average players. I bet we will see a different score come season. We have always thought coach Holifield gets the most out of his players, now Jackson south side has "pure" talent!!!! D 1 players for sure.
-- Posted by PBDC on Sat, Jun 9, 2012, at 8:30 PM
Thanks stlfan38 and yes Jackson southside looked impressive.
-- Posted by BBfanatic on Sat, Jun 9, 2012, at 10:13 PM
Great shootout at Dexter. Sikeston learned a lot about its team and players. There is still a lot of summer ball left for them. I'm very excited to see the development of this team going forward. There will be growing pains as this will be Sikeston's youngest most inexperienced team in years. But there is potential to be a very good team as well. Props to the Sikeston JV team for going undefeated including beating some varsity teams and props to the Sikeston freshmen which also had some 7th and 8th graders taking down JV teams, including beating Caruthersville JV in OT.

Did Vashawn play? I heard he couldn't.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 2:12 AM
Yes he played. All but one of the players was there on Friday. About three or four were missing on Saturday for various reasons. So the attendance was strong.
-- Posted by semohoops on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 2:50 AM
I know Sikeston didn't win it all, but I was impressed with them the most this weekend. I might get shot for saying this but this is the best all-around Sikeston shooting team I have seen. Sikeston fans help me out, since I don't watch them as much as you guys.
Jackson, Mo looked pretty good as well, Cape Central looked good especially against Southsode, and ND looked very weak and young. In a few years they might be good, but going to be some growing pains for the blue dogs
-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 2:23 PM
I don't know if I'd say this will be Sikeston's best shooting team. They will be streaky. There will be moments when they shoot it very well and then other moments when they don't. But if they keep working hard and getting in that gym like they always do, then this will no doubt improve their consistency. But I'm not sure they'll be a better shooting team than they've had the past couple years.
-- Posted by semohoops on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 3:52 PM
I think NMCC won 4 games, and lost to Jackson by 4 points and lost to Dyer County by 2.
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 11:52 PM
I only saw NMCC play a couple times. They beat Oak Ridge and Twin Rivers the games I saw. One of them Jimmerson got red hot and hit about three or four 3's in a row to pull away in a close game. He's going to be a good one.
-- Posted by semohoops on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 12:30 AM
ND looked weak. Cville is going to be decent but down a notch from where they've been. Sikeston was hard to tell because with Hollifield they will play different. Sikeston will still be good but replacing Jamison will be a big test for them. Charleston is going to be down just barely but they will still be the best Class 3 around here. NMCC is also a very improved team and could possibly sneak up in that district as the second best team. Kennett has a chance to be one of the 2-3 best teams in the area next year. Very impressed by them so far this summer. Bernie looks like the team to beat in Class 2. They just have a very solid program.
-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 10:22 AM
Its Summerball, I would not put to much stock in to how teams play now compared to the actual season. Its a long time away from now til the season starts. I will agree with you about Kennett though, should be a great team next year. Cville will have a new coach so there really is no telling how good or bad they will be just yet. There main focus now is on football
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 12:37 PM
I know its summer ball and sometimes you can throw it all out the window. Sometimes you can get a pretty good gauge on who has what. I don't know what kind of team Caruthersville will have, but I know Darrell Monroe put on a show. Dude. Is. Awesome.
-- Posted by semohoops on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 3:28 PM
I heard Monroe was moving to Texas, then I see him pictured playing in the Rib City Shootout. Just rumor or is a move pending?
-- Posted by birdfan on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 4:00 PM
Monroe is not going anywhere... He will be on the field and court for Cville next year..
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 4:59 PM
Kennett wasnt listed in the original schedule, but I see above Kennett is mentioned a few times but does not list who they played and how they fared against their opponents...input please, anyone?
-- Posted by hoopaholiczanon on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 7:57 PM
We play at Greene Co. Tech team camp. It conflicts with Rib City.
-- Posted by indian hoops on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 9:58 PM
I hear that Monroe is moving, but not to Dyer Co. Tennessee or Anywhere Texas, but to Sikeston. I know that rumors are everywhere, but I hear his mom already has a job in Sikeston, but is looking for a place to live.
I also hear another player from Charleston is being asked to move to Kennett to join an already talented team.
When did high school basketball become such an important business that parents move their kids to get their kids on top teams. I will tell you this if Monroe moves to Sikeston their football team becomes an automatic playoff contender. If the other kid from Charleston moves to join one of his teammates who already transfered to Kennett they become the Class 4 favorite in District 1 (unless Sikeston gets Monroe)
What a fun bunch of events to look forward to over the next couple of weeks!

I think it's all wishful thinking. There are so many rumors going around it's hard to keep up with them all. I guess all we can do is wait for the season to start and find out for ourselves where Monroe will be. I put my money on Caruthersville!

I'll believe it when I see it.

If he played for Bernie i would guarentee a state title. Lol.
-- Posted by BBfanatic on Thu, Jun 14, 2012, at 8:52 AM
Even if he did move locally he would not be able to play to in any games I remember a kid moved to SHS during the summer because his mom passed away and he still was deemed ineligle so unless Monroe had a dyer circumstance he couldnt play till his senior year.
-- Posted by stlfan38 on Thu, Jun 14, 2012, at 12:59 PM
I agree SHS will be streaky. They will struggle at the point position just because I dont think they have a guard that can make good decision on when to shoot and pass.Showed alot at the shoot-out.Some handle pressure well others dont. The squad this year doesnt look to handle pressure well.No way this team is a better than the shooter of Coleman Jamison Holifield Howard Porter.I dont think they will be a good free throw shooting team either. They will do good in spirts.CHS looks okay Kennett looked well.Only time will truly tell.

It happens but I think a certain amount of time has to surpass. If not you would have kids moving eve ryweek just to play on a differant team. I may be wrong. But im sure MSHSAA has some rules about athletes moving in and out of districts.Only the private schools can add players without restrictions at anytime during the season
-- Posted by stlfan38 on Thu, Jun 14, 2012, at 3:53 PM
If it is between years and a family moves from one town to another, they play immediately. See Cal Lane for example.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Jun 14, 2012, at 4:15 PM
If your family moves to a different town, you are eligible to play at that school that year. They have to show that you moved for purely athletic reasons for you NOT to be able to play.
