De Smet leads 11-4 with 4:35 left in first. Timeout Jackson.

Kentucky beats Florida!!
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:16 PM
I make the opponents of the teams I cover shoot lights out. Se De Smet 4 of 6 from 3 if my quick count is right. De Smet leads 24-12 after the first.
-- Posted by Rachel Crader on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:17 PM
De Smet leads Jackson 26-16 with 5:58 left in second quarter.

Madison Prep over St. Pius X 67-52 to win the Class 3 Boys Championship. Good effort by St. Pius keeping it close thru 3 quarters but too much Madison Prep in the 4th quarter.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:23 PM
De Smet now 7 of 9 from 3.
-- Posted by Rachel Crader on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:26 PM
Desmet is playing better ball than anyone in state.
-- Posted by stlscott on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:27 PM
So far it's the 3 pt show. Not the Nolan Berry show! He really doesn't like being bumped by Stevens!
-- Posted by localfan on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:28 PM
Jackson needs to weather the storm. They can't keep that up the whole game.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:28 PM
Bye Jackson...thanks for playing...go DeSmet!!
-- Posted by RedShirt on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:34 PM
De Smet doesn't have cheerleaders?
-- Posted by Larry Doby on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:36 PM
It wouldnt matter who Desmet played today.
-- Posted by stlscott on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:37 PM
All boys school Larry! Just rude students
-- Posted by localfan on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:38 PM
DeSmet is all boys school....Jackson looks lazy, disinterested....for shame!
-- Posted by RedShirt on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:38 PM
DeSmet could beat anyone shooting the way they have so far.

46-23 DeSmet half
-- Posted by RedShirt on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:42 PM
DeSmet is shooting the lights out today. They don't even need Berry the way the guards are playing
-- Posted by Bunk on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:43 PM
De Smet leads 46-23 at half. De Smet 7 of 10 from 3.
-- Posted by Rachel Crader on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:43 PM
Jackson might be a little closer if they would guard the 3 point line. Hard not to miss when you're wide open.
-- Posted by Fatboy1972 on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:44 PM
Jackson...zero defense!! Gotta bring it...or go home!
-- Posted by RedShirt on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:44 PM
Jackson needs to shoot the 3 better and defend the 3 point line better and they can get back in it but it may already be to far gone.
-- Posted by Bunk on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 1:45 PM
It is too far gone.

-- Posted by Bunk on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 2:45 PM
Desmet. Wow that's a good team. Lights out from three. A little too cocky and disrespectful for my Southeat Missouri sensibility but no sour grapes. They played great today. I would like to see the team that could beat them.
Great year Jackson. We have a lot to look forward to next year!
-- Posted by JacksonTF-1000 on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 3:39 PM
What does Jackson lose this year?
-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 3:42 PM
McDowell and Stevens as starters. Steele and DeLoach
-- Posted by localfan on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 3:52 PM
dads...I will pick Rockhurst as the team that will beat them in the final. Yes Desmet did play very well today. It makes it a lot easier to hit the three when you are not guarded on the three point line and when you start making them from the start and build up a 20 point lead. Congrats to Jackson, no one expected you to be playing today and you definitely exceeded all expectations. Hope this bodes well for your program going forward.
-- Posted by citizen cyborg on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 3:53 PM
Citizen. So true about the defense early. Jackson was having trouble getting back after a miss leaving them wide open. Desmet shot the three like free throws, uncontested and plenty of time. Good shooters will bury that all day, and they did.
-- Posted by JacksonTF-1000 on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 4:01 PM
And if Rockhurst does beat desmet I can live with the fact that Jackson lost to a class 5 runner-up, private school from stl.
-- Posted by JacksonTF-1000 on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 4:05 PM
Tip of the hat to desmet. They played like a college team today and shot the lights out. Nobody could have stopped that train. When their guards are stroking it like that they cant be beat. Good season Jackson! I was wanting you guys to pull it out!
-- Posted by GermX on Sat, Mar 9, 2013, at 8:10 PM
Nice call on mcluer north scotty, losing to fearsome bball power vianney. Suburban north rules, eh scotty?
-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 1:06 AM
Germs,
Played like a college team??
They are a Pre-College team, they're Private.
-- Posted by UFO on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 4:36 AM
Missouri Class 5 Final lV
Desmet - Private
Vianney - Private
Rockhurst - Private
Hickman - Public
Common Denominator ??
Go Hickman!
-- Posted by UFO on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 5:02 AM
Class 1 - Eminence, Stanberry, Drexel, Meadville. Common denominator?
Class 2 - Oran, West Platte, Iberia, Salisbury. Common denominator?
Class 4 - Sikeston, Normandy, Republic, Liberty North. Common denominator?
Unfair advantage to public schools?
Sometimes private schools make it, sometimes they don't. I know it's convenient to whine about it, but in basketball that claim just doesn't hold up. Now if you want to talk soccer (I really don't lol), that is one area where private schools do seem to dominate.
-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 11:06 AM
Private School State
Public School State
Fair to everyone.
-- Posted by UFO on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 11:27 AM
FarmBoy06,
There is no argument. Private schools hold a Competitive advantage. Period.
Their inability to excel every year in every class does not change this.
We all know most Public school kids can not afford to pay tuition to Private or out of district schools. The vast majority attend schools in their own district. It's flat luck that any mid to small public schools have any kids over 6'3".
Separate State Competition is the only Answer.
-- Posted by UFO on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 11:48 AM
No then there is that question about which team is really the state champion. I think the system works for the most part all because your a private school doesn't guarenteed you trips to CoMo just ask the ex coach of CBC
-- Posted by Bunk on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 11:49 AM
Heck, you don't even have to go that far. Ask a Notre Dame fan from the past 5 years.
-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 12:07 PM
I have 3 public classes, small, medium, large, and two private classes small and big. pretty simple
-- Posted by ThayerPops on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 12:54 PM
Talkinghead is right on.
Texas, Georgia and Louisianna already separate Public and Private schools in all or selected team sports.
Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Jersey and Others are debating the change.
It is a matter of time, but fair competive change is inevitable in every State.
-- Posted by UFO on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 7:42 PM
There's a lot of states that sperated them actually.
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 8:25 PM
True, De Smet would have beaten just about anyone yesterday.
I thought Jackson played the game the right way. Packed the lane and made it tough for Berry. Stevens did a very good job on him.
Of course, that left De Smet with open looks. They have good shooters, but I think you've got to take that chance. I've never seen them shoot it like that.
To me, where Jackson failed was in defending Barton, and that is always Mission #1 against De Smet. But Jackson did not have anyone who could stay in front of him. That really makes it tough. And their bigs seemed reluctant to pick up Barton in the paint, probably because they did not want to leave Berry open. If they had, Barton would have gotten him the ball. I've seen it many times. Barton still ended up with 13 assists.
Barton is a gym rat. I'd be surprised if any kid in the state has spent more time working on his game than he has.
De Smet's ability to harass the Jackson guards was another big factor. I've never seen Shackleford that hopped up on defense.
It's too bad the game got a litle out of hand. Jackson is a pretty tough team. Just ask Chaminade.
-- Posted by unclegrubworm on Sun, Mar 10, 2013, at 8:57 PM
I was very impressed with Barton's style. Berry may be good but was disrespectful and that causes dislike amongst the SEMO crowd.
-- Posted by deal on Mon, Mar 11, 2013, at 12:53 AM
Just a buzzsaw! De Smet shot the lights out and that was unusual from what I have heard from the people that I talked to up there Saturday!
Stevens did seem to frustrate Berry and then when Berry got a chance while being guarded by someone else he capitalized! He is a smart player but Barton makes him better.
Jackson never could get into a rhythm which they need and the guards really struggled with the pressure of De Smet guards.
There should be some very good games this coming weekend! Great year for the Jackson Boys!
