High School Basketball Forum: Week of Jan. 25 Basketball Scores

Posted by drawmules on Sat, Jan 23, 2010, at 1:06 PM:

There are so many exciting games this week it will be impossible to attend all of them. The Stoddard County Tournament and the Big Springs Conference Tournament take place this week. Notre Dame travels to Scott County Central and North Pemiscot hosts Portageville Tuesday. Featured games on Friday include Kennett at Charleston, North Pemiscot at Campbell, Cape Central at Poplar Bluff, Webster Groves at Jackson and Leopold at Oran.

This week I will attend the Stoddard County Tournament on Monday, Thursday and Friday. I will also attend the Notre Dame / Scott County Central game Tuesday.

I think the game of the week this week is Notre Dame at Scott County Central. It should be interesting to see if Ronnie Cookson Gymnasium is large enough to accommodate the large crowd. I think it is possible the doors will be locked before the start of the varsity game.

Post scores on this thread as the week progresses. I would love to see scores from the Big Springs Conference Tournament. I think Van Buren is a team to watch in the postseason in Class 2. It will be interesting to see how they perform this week in the Big Springs Conference Tournament.

Saturday you should come watch NMCC play SCC at the Fed Ex Forum in Memphis! Then stay and watch grizzlies vs hornets haha!

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sat, Jan 23, 2010, at 1:13 PM
  • Memphis is too far for me. I'll probably watch Three Rivers play Moberly.

-- Posted by drawmules on Sat, Jan 23, 2010, at 2:52 PM
  • I'm not sure if SCC will be packed or not. It's a Tuesday, so that will keep a few folks home. Either way, I'll be there early.

Oran vs Leopold is at Leopold

  • Thanks for clearing this up Larry. The schedule I received stated the opposite.

  • Sikeston at Jackson should be a good one. Sikeston seems to have problems at Jackson.

    -- Posted by Fatboy1972 on Sat, Jan 23, 2010, at 8:36 PM
  • I hear Jackson has improved, but based on how Sikeston is playing and how Jackson looked early in the year, I think they will have to have improved a lot to keep this one close.

Why do you think Van Buren will be a darkhorse in the postseason? They didn't seem too impressive at the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament. I believe they can win their district but do you see them beating the district 3 winner?

Take a look at the teams in their district.

At the end of the first Bernie and Woodland are tied at 14.

-- Posted by drawmules on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 7:06 PM
  • At halftime Bernie leads Woodland 37-20.

-- Posted by drawmules on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 7:20 PM
  • At the end of the third quarter Bernie leads Woodland 53-27.

-- Posted by drawmules on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 7:46 PM
  • Bernie defeats Woodland 71-51.

-- Posted by drawmules on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 8:00 PM
  • drawmules,

what is up with bernie, they were so dominant early on. They really appear to be struggling. Not that winning by 20 is struggling, but woodland is having a down year and you would expect a team like bernie to win by way more than that.

I'm in with semoballfan1. What is up with bernie. I heard one player has left the team. And some of the others are having basketball burnout. Any truth in this.

  • At the end of the third Bell City leads Richland 46-44.

3:29 remaining Richland leads Bell City 57-51.

Is Richland playing bad or is Bell City playing well. I figured this game wouldn't be close.

-- Posted by oak ridge fan on Mon, Jan 25, 2010, at 9:34 PM
  • Oak ridge

Richland had an off night tonight compared to their last few games. The 6'11 guy in the middle for BC may have had something to do with that. He was by no means dominant, but Richland missed A LOT of short shots.

I am going to refrain from discussing issues that involve students and school officals at Bernie on public forums. I recognize I will likely receive additional questions pertaining to these topics in the upcoming weeks. While I appreciate the curiosity from semoball.com followers, I feel it would be a disservice to the students, athletes and school officials at Bernie if I provided additional information. I have tried to provide prompt and accurate answers to all of your questions this season. I hope you will respect my decision to not comment on issues pertaining to students and school officals at Bernie.

  • Well said drawmules. Lets concentrate on the team not the unfortunate happenings of the players.Although this may make for a good read.We should remember that these athletes are kids & and kids will make mistakes. Hopefully they will correct themselves and get on with their lives.

  • all i asked is how they are playing. If they are not playing well, that's all you have to say. You are not hurting anyone by stating a fact.

I've only seen Bernie play twice this year. Their first game of the Christmas tourney and last night. Their level of play was completely different last night. They put together a good second quarter run which was sparked by pressure defense. Other than that, I would say they had major struggles.

  • Oak Ridge picked up a huge win against Oran last night. Any thoughts?

Portageville also defeated North Pemiscot. Any thoughts?

-- Posted by drawmules on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 1:09 PM
  • I would have lost money on both of these games. The Morrow kid from Oran has been on fire lately. Very surprised that he was held to 9 pts. Portageville hasn't looked all that great to me and North Pem looked pretty good in the 1 game I saw them play. Somewhat surprised by that one as well.

-- Posted by hsbballfan on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 4:07 PM
  • The Morrow kid was out for a few minutes in the second quarter and also some in the third. The Mangels kid did a really good job defending him. When he did get the ball Light & Thomas were there to help. The game was really slow tempo. Something OR wasn't ready for. Took them a half to adjust.

-- Posted by oak ridge fan on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 4:38 PM
  • I think Portageville will continue to surprise high school basketball fans. Don't count out Portageville in March.

  • The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning. It is my understanding most locations in Southeast Missouri will receive four to 10 inches of snow. It should be interesting to see if any basketball games are played on Friday.
