It was a shootout 75-59 Great Game

Did they even try to play defense?

Must have been like the pro bowl!

I see the basketball score here so when's the football game?
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 2:52 PM
I know one thing Kennett got shafted by the Refs. Tim Harmon, Maldens coach was a Ref. whats up with that!
-- Posted by sportspa on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 4:46 PM
a kennett coach officiated the game also. now, what's the excuse?
-- Posted by myershallred on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 5:14 PM
Allowing 75 points in a single football game, sounds like your defense is the one who shafted Kennett! Sorry but no way could a ref cause you a game and to lose by 3 touchdowns. Maybe a play or two but not the game!
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 5:15 PM
No coach should officiate any football game for his school; that would never be allowed in basketball. No matter how un-biased they might be, it opens up a huge door for criticism!
-- Posted by semo7178 on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 5:20 PM
it's happened in basketball too.
-- Posted by myershallred on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 5:22 PM
On behalf of Indian fans who have a clue, I apologize for sportpa's comment. We gave up 75 points, that's why we lost, PERIOD. I thought our effort was good and I continue to see things I like. We are getting better and I really like our coaching staff. With that said, Malden beat us fair and square. Don't make excuses, we didn't get it done!!!
-- Posted by indianchief on Sat, Oct 1, 2011, at 5:24 PM
very well said, chief. you're right, it does appear that kennett is making strides each and every week. and that #2 playoff spot in that class 3 dist is very much up for grabs.

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!!
Fans are usually quick to jump on the ref. cheated us bandwagon, especially when their team loses. But look at the score, it's not like the difference was one or two blown calls.
This was a wild game and the referee's let the boys go at it. It was probably one of the more balanced officiated games this season. Man these refs got a work out too, up and down the field all night long, and it was a little over 3 hr game to boot. Bet they were draggin rears after the game.
Chief don't sweat it, we know that one bad apple doesn't speak for the silent majority.

That's the 3rd highest score in the common era?

The record is based on the MSHSAA record book. Was the Sikeston-Caruthersville game played before MSHSAA existed?
-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sun, Oct 2, 2011, at 1:29 AM
Yes Dustin I was well aware of that. In fact I mentioned it on CoverItLive friday! That was before the play clock and mercy rule so scores like that was not uncommon.

Any thoughts on whether or not the mercy rule is a good idea?
-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sun, Oct 2, 2011, at 5:35 AM
I think it's a great idea. No one wants to see a 100 point blow-out!
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Oct 2, 2011, at 5:42 AM
And trust me. There would be a few teams around this area that would love not to have a mercy rule!
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Oct 2, 2011, at 5:44 AM
MSHSAA official records are most typically submitted by coaches as there are official forms, protocol, and procedure to follow. Unfortunately, not every coach pays attention, or makes the effort, to submit records. As a result, it is impossible for the record book to be 100% accurate. It is what it is, but it's the best we've got.

I don't know about any record or even care for that matter. The facts that are is there was not one good tackle in the whole game on either side. Kennett didn't have the athletic ability and Malden didn't have the speed. There will be no one that can argue that. One can say it was a great offence-of show, but don't let them fool you it was a ugly game of defence.

Kennett goes to Sikeston this week. The will know what speed is after that game.
If they can't tackle Malden, imagine what Sikeston will do to them. Only difference Sikeston has a defense.

Fo those of you wondering, yes, in 1919 Sikeston beat Caruthersville 148-0!

I heard on the radio after the game that Malden and Kennett both scored again. Unbelievable! I don't think there was one tackle for a loss all night.
