Picks for the 1st Round!
Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 5:40 AM:

Are there any possible upsets?

DeSoto at Farmington-Farmington

Sikeston at Hillsboro-Sikeston

Park Hills Central at Dexter-Dexter

Fredericktown at Ste. Genevieve-St. Gen

Herculaneum at Caruthersville-Caruthersville

Charleston at Crystal City-Charleston

Hayti at Valle Catholic-Valle

Cleveland NJROTC at Thayer-Thayer

I see PHC giving Dexter all they want and I pick Charleston to upset Crystal City.

Sikeston over Hillsboro is not an upset?

-- Posted by Rufus R. Jones on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 7:44 AM

I think most people would have Sikeston as the favorite tonight, but I do think it will be a good game. Has a District 2 team ever beat a District 1 team under the current playoff format?

-- Posted by semohoops on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 8:11 AM

He never said that sikeston was an upset.

I don't think it is! I think Sikeston is much better than they played last week. They will rebound tonight

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 11:22 AM

Nobody called it an upset when Cape beat the District 2 winner last year or Poplar Bluff did the year before. I don't think it would be this year either.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 11:29 AM

Ok, just a little insight to you all... Valle may be overated but hayti is not going to play within 20 points of Valle.. If anybody wants to bet that let me know.. Hayti lost games this year they normally don't and Valle beat everyone except St. Genevieve. Hayti barely beat Scott City and Chaffee.

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 11:36 AM

sportsturd i will jst take that bet Bucko!! just what kinds of ods are you gving me? 10 to 1? put just your money were your mouth is.

-- Posted by bearcat1forall on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 12:00 PM

I was saying to those who think Hayti will win.. I'm not giving any points or odds to anyone.. if u think Hayti will win put your money where your mouth is Bucko

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 12:13 PM

Whose to say Hayti can't win? Sure it's not probable but they are more than capable of winning. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether people agree's or not! I think Valle is going to win but don't count out Hayti

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 12:38 PM

they could potentially win but to think its more than a 2 % chance is crazy I say Valle 49-Hayti 16

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 12:50 PM

what game will be the most competitive tonight? dexter and park hills or charleston crystal city

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:01 PM

if you's is so sure then why not give me 10 to won odds bucko! sounds just like jst sounds liek you do not want to put your money where your mouth is bucko.

-- Posted by bearcat1forall on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:09 PM

I agree with your score on the Hayti/Valle game. I just don't think you should blast other people's take on the game. As far as the most competitive game. I think it will be C.C./Charleston. Charleston is playing really well right now but Caruthersville exposed some flaws with them. When #40 runs the ball, just tackle him low and he will go down. Not much of a tackle breaker, pretty much falls down on impact. #1 for Charleston has unsure hands, fumbles alot, hit him on the arm that is carrying the ball and he will fumble most times. If you can stop the run in between tackles, then you will beat Charleston. Not much of an outside run threat. #81 for Charleston is a pretty big wideout, not sure why they don't throw to him much.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:14 PM

i esho those sentimants cheeseheed. the thing about the tacklin is just to get in to postioni and use those arems in a rowing alligator techaniqe and nab those rb's coming through th e line. get those feet set and arms ready and thrust up and jump out and nab those jokers. no splaining needed about that is there Bucko?

-- Posted by bearcat1forall on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:34 PM

I would bet on that cville upset thats bill is talking about

-- Posted by Jebbie88 on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:42 PM

Not really sure what you said bearcat1forall..hard to decode what said.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 1:56 PM

just saying cheesheed that cville should adpot and practice my teqchniques i have developed and learned. i think the tigers will win. but. they have to nab those rbs.

-- Posted by bearcat1forall on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 2:16 PM

I wasn't trying to bash their pick... I have seen Hayti and Valle play so I thought I would let people know that Valle is much much better

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 3:43 PM

I cover both C'ville and Hayti for a living. As much as I would love to see Hayti beat Valle, it's not going to happen. As for Herky over C'ville that's not going down either. Charleston may be able to beat Crystal City, but my pick in that game is the Hornets.

-- Posted by Matt Duckworth on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 4:57 PM

I agree Matt. I think Crystal City is the favorite to win, and they probably will but I am picking with my heart on this one instead of my head. I really want a Charleston rematch!

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Nov 2, 2011, at 5:36 PM

I stand with Herman Cain, because Herman Cain stands with us!

Oh, and go SEMO schools ;)

Cheesehead101 - I have just a couple questions for you. I'm by no means a Charleston fan, but it seems to me that you really don't like Charleston...or any other high school athletic program other than Caruthersville. Why is that? A fan is entitled to his/her opinion, but to just dislike and talk absurd trash about young players/athletes meaning you're talking about children, I have a problem with that. Not being specific here but in this forum alone you talked down upon 2 of Charleston's players and nobody else. Is it just me or what is going on here? "Unsure hands, hit him in the arm and he will fumble most of the time......hit him and he'll go down he's not a tackle breaker?" I'm guessing you watched one game (The actual game between Charleston and Caruthersville). I'm pretty sure that most ball carriers get hit in the arm on almost every tackle/play at the high school level. Even Caruthersville arm tackles and doesn't wrap up on every single tackle/play. I'm almost positive that the category of "most of the time" doesn't apply to a thing especially when it comes to fumbling the football. If it does, I would be the first one in line to see such statistics supporting the theory "most of the time". I didn't know in all of my 28 years of watching high school football in Southeast Missouri that someone could pinpoint multiple players "weakness" and dare to say in public that those so called "weaknesses" happen in the entirety of the season. Doesn't make much sense to me...

-- Posted by Kennedy29 on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 9:42 AM

Please tell me what "trash" I was talking about players? I saw these two players with my own eyes and what I said about them is true. How is that trashing? Was I talking about them personally? No! I am just like everyone else on here who see's flaws in people's game and I just brought them up like other people do. Where were you when fans from Charleston were talking about how #40 was going to run through our defense? How #1 was just to fast for us to contain? I guess you missed the parts where I said Charleston was greatly improved this season and how #81 could be a big time player. I guess you just pick out my negative things to say but fail to see the good things I have said. Also, I refuse to believe that you aren't a fan of Charleston. Just sounds like sour grapes to me. Also where did arm tackling come up? I never said anything about arm tackling. I said #40 was not a very good at breaking tackles. So I should not say my opinion on games in public? Apparently you must be new to the forum because I don't talk trash about anyone on here.I give praise to players who deserve it. You know, players like Watson from Sikeston and Stevens from Dexter. I support two teams in Semo, Caruthersville and Hayti. I don't hate any other team I just don't keep up with them like I do my two teams. I respect all high school programs in Semo. Maybe you need to stick around longer before you go off giving your expert opinion about who I like and who I don't like.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 10:37 AM

but you told the truth cheese.

-- Posted by Jebbie88 on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 11:06 AM

I have some to learn certain people are not allowed to give their opinion on here without backlash and I am one of them as are you Delo. And your right, it was the truth

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 11:10 AM

*come

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 11:11 AM

Some people just freak out over nothing Cheese. You get used to it.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 11:18 AM

Yeah I'm starting to.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 11:21 AM

Cheesehead101 - I was just stating my point of view on how it seems that you dislike and talk negative (definition of trash) about Charleston players and nobody else. You have talked about how Charleston has greatly improved and you did indeed sir pick them to win against Crystal City, but I think it was only to just play Charleston again, not because you actually thought they could win. I honestly think it is obvious with your post about the flaws you saw after one game and that those flaws apparently went on for the entirety of the season. That's what I have a problem with. I'm not a Charleston fan believe what you want to. I'm a sports fan and a football fan and I love Friday nights. Sour grapes make good homemade wine, but they have no place or purpose for me to fire back in support of a team I've only read about from a local paper my brother in East Prairie sends me on Monday evenings. I fear that some areas and schools do not get credit because of where they are from and rumors associated with them. Caruthersville is one of those schools and areas. I was just reading this forum last night after the 9pm news and was just curious as to your motives for posting such comments that just sounded so negative to me. Forgive me for I have not read all of your post which I think if someone tried it would take the better part of a lifetime to read them. I'm just stating MY opinion which I think should be respected as I did yours and was just wondering and wanting an answer. That's all. I mentioned arm tackling because you made the comment that if a certain player was hit in the arm he would fumble it "most of the time." Where's is the evidence to support such a claim? Especially after seeing one game? That's all I'm saying. Do you not think that an arm of a ball carrier (regardless of what team they are playing for) isn't going to get hit in the arm on all of the plays? I'll make up a statistic about your theory/comment and say that "most of the time" is more than half. So if the player in question fumbled the balls on more than half of his carries (over the entirety of the season) then your theory/comment are proven correct. If not, then your theory/comment is busted. If you agreed then you just proved your "most of the time" theory/comment are incorrect and illogical, plain and simple. I don't have to give my expert opinion on which team you like and dislike. For one I'm not an expert and neither are you. Two, you have the Caruthersville Tiger logo picture. Three, the more post I read the more I think I'm glad I'm new on this forum. I hope to stay on this forum and have some good discussions in the future. I have not talked down about one person on this forum and I'm not going to. Just asking a question and making my argument and supporting my point.

-- Posted by Kennedy29 on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 12:08 PM

I never said that was the case for the entire season. Based on what I saw with my own eyes, what I said about the two players were correct. Now, that's not saying they were like that all season because obviously I haven't watched all their games. I just thought they were a little over hyped compared to what a few Charleston fans was saying. It's in no way trashing them because they earn their yards and are good runners. I've talked about how our QB needs to improve but does that mean I am trashing him? No. There are things he needs to work on, just like the Charleston running backs. I just noticed that 40 went down after the initial contact and #1 fumbled on more than one occasion after being hit. Just an observation of mine that I made after watching them play Caruthersville. Just because I don't praise every team in Semo does not mean I dislike them. I give my honest opinion on every team, even my own. Just ask anyone on here. I did think Charleston would win last night. They control the clock better than anyone I have seen all year. They rush the ball 40+ times a game. Didn't think Crystal City would have the ball much and they are not known for putting up big points. Plus a part of me wanted them to win also, can't lie about that. I never claimed to be an expert either, I just saw a ton of football over the years and would like to think I know a little about it. So for future arguments i'm sure we will have in the future, just because I point out a flaw or two in someone's game does not mean I am trashing them or even hate the team, that is far from the truth

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 3, 2011, at 12:28 PM

Cheesehead can you just please shush it and not say anything thing else. You know you were dogging other players. I gives you props for trying to cover yourself up, but guess what it didn't work. Also, I have a question? Am I still spitting bs? Hahahahaha

GO BIG BLUE!!!!

-- Posted by bluejaypride on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 1:12 AM

Your a joke! Grow up please and let the adults have a conversation. Its past your bedtime.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 1:33 AM

Woah! Im starting to see the a sikeston-esque ganging up and arrogance from all the Caruthersville posters. Normally enjoy reading from them but I guess since theyre about the only ones left in the playoffs around here they are gonna let us know it.

-- Posted by Bill Shakespeare on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 3:33 PM

Make it rain what have I said bad. Nothing and I'm a cville poster alway wish the other teams luck then said congrats on a great year. So don't put us all together

-- Posted by Jebbie88 on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 4:12 PM

Wait a minute. Cheese and I (including other Sikeston posters) have had our disagreements, but we have a mutual respect for each others' program. I don't think Cheese was trash talking a kid from Charleston or any kid for that matter. All he was relaying what he saw and a kid's relative weakness. To me.....that is not trash talking. Just my opinion......

-- Posted by Rocket689 on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 4:14 PM

Im sure he is talking about me. I didn't say anything that wasn't the truth. Someone runs there mouth to me, I give it back. Bluejaypride just can't stand that his team is out so he has to try and start crap with us. I stand by all my statements and back up what I say with facts. Im not here to cater to people's ego's, I call it like I see it. Now I see what the Sikeston fans mean when they say winning brings you haters.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 4:16 PM

Thanks Rocket! At least someone gets it

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Nov 4, 2011, at 4:18 PM

I fully understand. I'm glad you see what we Sikeston fans see now! Good luck Monday.
