Summer football has begun and like many of you I cannot wait for football season to begin! It's not too early to begin debating and discussing how our respective teams will do this season. In my mind, Caruthersville is the preseason #1 team in the area followed by Sikeston. Also Kelly will be a new team (though they will only play a JV schedule this year) and Doniphan is starting their football program up again (not sure if they will field a team this season).
I can only speak about Dexter. We lost alot to graduation on our OL and DL. Also lost Cody Stevens at QB, although D.J. Dowdy is a better passer IMO. We have some talented JV players coming up and the Bearcats will be better than expected. Our pass defense will still be top notch with a really good linebacker corp. Young and Neldon are back at WR and TE should be a strength as well on offense. Our running game is a question mark at this point.
What are your thoughts on your team and your preseason predictions for semo overall?
Does anyone know when the contact camp at Sikeston is?

June 21-22 REDDIRT DOG.

Caruthersville is going to be VERY good this year. Probably even better than last year! I can't wait til the season kicks off!!! Go Tigers!!!

hayti legitt
-- Posted by IceCold06 on Thu, Jun 7, 2012, at 9:04 PM
Hayti is usually always legit. Is Hayti usually always discipline? Eeehh no. So if they can straighten that out they could be good, they are in a district that has held the Class 1 East representative 6 outta last ten years with 3 state championships so they better be real good to compete.
-- Posted by Bill Shakespeare on Fri, Jun 8, 2012, at 10:52 PM
why is it that kennett is always a non factor in football. they have the tallent in this town but never can put anything together on the field. 1987 is a long time to wait for a playoff berth. this use to be a Football town. back then the bleachers were full every game.
-- Posted by INDIAN DAWG on Sun, Jun 10, 2012, at 1:21 PM
Hey Bill how can you speak on the discipline at Hayti? Have you been at a practice or around the team? Or are you just making assumptions? Those kids work hard and DO have discipline. Hayti will be just fine next year.
-- Posted by InYourOpinion on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 8:25 AM
I don't think he means discipline in that manner. I think he means more the lines of discipline on the field. You know, jumping offsides, holding, stuff that warrants flags being throw. In years past that has been Hayti's biggest flaw. I don't think he meant, actual attitude problem or things like that, I could be wrong though.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 8:43 AM
I should have clarified, as cheese said I'm talking strictly between the lines football here, I have no knowledge of kids in the program outside of football and therefore couldn't say either way if I wanted to, sorry for the communication lapse
-- Posted by Bill Shakespeare on Mon, Jun 11, 2012, at 10:29 PM
I agree that penalties are an issue for Hayti. If they can get that cleaned up I see them having a great season. They return a boatload of talent from last year and should be on track. I also think Kennett will surprise a few folks as per Indian Dawg. 40 something kids for a June camp is a great start. And of course C-Ville will be loaded as usual, should be an interesting season.
-- Posted by InYourOpinion on Tue, Jun 12, 2012, at 8:23 AM
Look for North County to be up a little bit and Farmington lost a lot but feel as though they will be competitive. Sikeston should be better. Fredtown didn't lose a lot of players from last year and should be better but still behind Park Hills, Dexter and Ste. Genevieve. Hayti will be very good but not good enough to beat Valle which will surprise a lot of people with their strengh and quickness and predominantly juniors and sophomores but the 5-6 seniors they have are good players. Ste. Gen. will be huge averaging close to 230 on the L.O.S but not real deep in the backfield but skilled. Park Hills has a lot of speed and will have a very big front. QB position may be a question mark.Games to watch Sikeson vs Cape; Park Hills vs Dexter and SG; Ste.Gen. vs Caruthersville and Hayti vs Valle.
-- Posted by Horizontal Stretch on Tue, Jun 19, 2012, at 4:37 PM
Caruthersville will also be pretty big up front also. Jay Stricklin(senior) 6'4 300, Landon(sophmore) 6'3 260, Joey Middleton(junior), 5'9 225, Malik Monroe(sophmore)6'1 210, andn I not sure on who is going to take the final spot but I'm sure he will be pretty big as well.

Doniphan is starting its program? Good news if it happens. First news I've heard about the Dons starting football again.

I'm very interested to see how Cape does this year. I've talked to some graduated players who go back and lift with the team and apparently this is the hardest they've ever went in the off season. They should have the physical attributes this year, as long as they play as a team they should be very good.
-- Posted by CapeAlum on Wed, Jun 20, 2012, at 4:10 PM
Doniphan will not field a team this year Gianthook.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Jun 22, 2012, at 8:57 PM
Is Doniphan planning on trying to start its program back up in the next few years?
-- Posted by gianthook on Fri, Jun 22, 2012, at 10:05 PM
That's my understanding Gianthook from some Doniphan folks. I guess time will tell if they get it off the ground again.

I believe Cape is going to surprise a lot of people on how good they are going to be! Go Tigers!
-- Posted by Bigups35 on Wed, Jun 27, 2012, at 5:37 AM
Cape's size and activity levels were very impressive at contact camp......new facility, new mindset maybe...they seem to have it going in a good direction,
They have great O and D line to build around....
up to them to fill in the holes...
They had an athletic looking left handed QB at camp....any background on him ? Soph? Junior? Senior??
-- Posted by Headhunt on Wed, Jun 27, 2012, at 9:08 AM
Well dang! its not a surprise anymore, you just told us.
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Wed, Jun 27, 2012, at 9:39 AM
headhunt his name is dennis vinson hes going to be a junior this year
-- Posted by cape222 on Wed, Jun 27, 2012, at 2:37 PM
I see that Kennett is scheduled to play at Portageville on Aug. 31, but MSHSAA's website says the game is cancelled?
Can anybody clear this up??
-- Posted by Dustin Sullivan on Wed, Jun 27, 2012, at 8:41 PM
Vinson was the backup last season as a sophomore. He came in when cavaness got hurt at sikeston and played the perryville game.
-- Posted by CapeAlum on Thu, Jun 28, 2012, at 12:38 AM
I saw him "flick" his wrist on one deep corner route....went 35-40 yards...one step drop...
pretty impressive.....with that line, and a decent back or two, if he learns the position and makes good decisions......he could be a very effective QB
-- Posted by Headhunt on Mon, Jul 2, 2012, at 11:04 AM
I don't think I see any mention of Jackson yet on this thread. Any thoughts or insights with where things are headed now that there's a new coach & system?
-- Posted by Grussman on Tue, Jul 3, 2012, at 10:03 AM
So any thoughts on Central's runningbacks this year ..... i think Campbell and Martin have something to prove this year.
-- Posted by CT_2007 on Thu, Jul 5, 2012, at 12:55 PM
Jackson should be decent his year under Eackley. Nothing earth-shattering because they have to get used to him.
Cape should be pretty loaded this year. Vinson at QB - jury is still out but from what we saw in game 10 last year, very promising.
New playoff system should somwhat equalize the field, although not by much.
-- Posted by vincebrown on Fri, Jul 6, 2012, at 5:28 AM
Dustin
I was looking at schedules yesterday and I also noticed that as well. Can anyone from Kennett or Portageville give us some insight on why the game is cancelled or is it a mistake?
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Jul 6, 2012, at 11:33 AM
Cheese, I have to tell you that I've watched some film on Mt. View Liberty and they have a good bunch coming back. They played eventual state champ Lamar closer than anyone else in the playoffs. Can't match the Tigers speed wise but man they execute and are really disciplined. I figure will give the Tigers a better game than most folks in this area anticipate. Have to give both coaches kudos for strengthening their schedule.
-- Posted by sonny6killer on Sun, Jul 8, 2012, at 9:22 AM
Maplewood played them within 13 and MtV lost by 15 so they pretty much played them about the same.
I agree that MtV will be a very tough first game for the Tigers, esp having to drive all that way to play. I noticed though that their QB and RB from last year graduated so they will not have the exp at them two positions. Will that affect them? Only time will tell. I do think it will be a very competitive game. I still like my Tigers in this one.
I'm glad Caruthersville decided to beef up the schedule as well. I'd rather have a couple losses from some quality teams, that will get them prepared for the playoffs, than go undefeated playing teams we know we are going to beat. The challenges on this schedule I see will def be MtV,Hayti, and St.Gen.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Jul 8, 2012, at 11:33 AM
Don't overlook Dexter, Cheese. The Bearcats will be better than expected. The conference championship should be decided when Dexter and Caruthersville play.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sun, Jul 8, 2012, at 9:35 PM
Not overlooking anyone Preacher! Of course, it's the game of football, where anything can happen. I do give Cville the advantage in that game though, Dexter lost too much and don't have Cody Stevens so that in itself will hurt them this year.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Jul 8, 2012, at 10:29 PM
I'll grant you that C'ville will be the favorite going into that game, Cheese. Stevens was a big loss, but our new QB, DJ Dowdy, is a better pure passer in my opinion and maybe a bit faster. Our biggest question mark is our OL; if we get good play there from a young OL, the Bearcats will surprise some people this season!
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Jul 9, 2012, at 10:24 AM
Hayti-Thayer opener should be dandy. I believe if Thayer can win first 4 games They go all the way, but not many class 1 teams could go through Hayti, Highland Ar., Liberty, and Salem.

Watched Dexter at the Sikeston camp and sure they didn't have everyone in attendance, but look to me like they have a long way to go, but teams fool you.

I'm not high on Dexter this year either.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Jul 10, 2012, at 5:41 PM
Preach, I respect your passion for OUR Bearcats but to be quite honest they have a lot to do before they are even competetive with the upper tier teams in the area. Furthermore, respect your opinion of our new QB D.J Dowdy but disagree about his arm strength compared to Cody Stevens. He is tough mentally and physically but will be tested big time this year with an unproven O-line and a new backfield. With that being said the receiving corps could be tops in the area. I do know Coach Pix expects to take a few lumps this year but also plans on being in the mix come playoff time.
-- Posted by lonesomedavepeverett on Wed, Jul 11, 2012, at 8:32 AM
Lonesomedave, as I said in my analysis of the Bearcats above, they do indeed have big question marks on the OL and in the running game. If those come together, we will surprise some people. Right now, its not even for sure who is starting on the OL. The running game is coming together with Ryan Joyner getting the majority of the touches. The kids tell me that there is a sophomore who is really emerging at RB as well. As far as Dowdy vs. Stevens goes, I simply meant that I think DJ is the more accurate passer of the two. Defensively, the Bearcats will be very solid, esp. in their pass defense. I also agree our receiving corp is among the best in the area.
Of course, only time will tell...
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 11, 2012, at 6:02 PM
The Bearcats need to keep there DBs and WRs healthy, especially the Neldon kid, because if he returns kick-offs and punts like he did last year, then he could be a game changer!
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Thu, Jul 12, 2012, at 10:43 AM
No question there, Reddirt Dog. The biggest concern with Cody Neldon is staying healthy; he has been injury prone. But when healthy, he is a great all-around athlete. A game changer, just like you said.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Thu, Jul 12, 2012, at 10:41 PM
Even though many will just say these are summer predictions, I think its safe to say that in about a month in a half everyone else will know who has the best team in Southeast Missouri. However, from what I witnessed at the contact camp, Central, will be it! Their defensive line is probably one of the best I've seen in about 3 years. Thanks to Bryant, Hopkins, Boerboom, Campbell, Margetta, Reyes, Scottie Thomas, Davis-Carter, and their new addition Jared Thomas. Nuff Said!
-- Posted by StraightUp30 on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 11:16 AM
Cape will have they're hands full the first week! John Burroughs is going to be very tough. They have the best running back in the state in Ezikiel Elliott (I think that's how you spell it lol) I watched the kid last night on the Espn App on my Xbox, he played in the Nike 7ON Tournament, and looked very impressive against the nations top defensive players. I think Cape will have no answer for him. Caruthersville travels on the road to Mt.View that week so I'll prolly come check that Cape/JB game out.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 12:29 PM
Musta forgot that d line we brought up to cape a couple years, they looked good but lets be straight up
-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 2:08 PM
That statement is even crazier the second time i read it
-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 2:12 PM
Also, it was just a contact camp. Teams were without players, it was hot, some didn't play every down, etc etc.. It's a good indication on what you currently have, but in no way dictates how your going to be when the season starts. The first week will be a very tough week for some of the stronger Semo programs like Cape and Caruthersville. Two very tough opponents to start the year off with. Not sure who Sikeston plays but I'm sure they will be in the mix of the top teams as well. I think Semo as a whole will be more "even" as far as teams go. Sure there will be a few teams who separate themselves but overall, there will be some great games this year, not many blowouts IMO. And Ruby is right, Sikeston a couple years ago had a hellva defense.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 2:29 PM
Sikeston's defense is going to be a force this year as well. Not gonna compare them to anybody else but I really like the personnel. As always, I'll predict Sikeston to be the top team in the area but Caruthersville will also be able to make a claim at that title. Those are my top two. We open with Charleston this year. The most interesting game to me on the schedule is Farmington since Sikeston and Farmington will be playing in the Dome in Week 4 as part of something MSHSAA put together between teams who've been consistently good and travel well. That'll be fun.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 3:04 PM
True Story, Cheesehead. And I've heard of that Elliot kid. Quite impressive he is, but hey I wouldn't say their hands are full. One kid can't get the job done. Heat, absences, injuries.. yes that's all true, but I'm just going off the performances I saw under all the circumstances. As for defensive lines,Dustin Ruby, I was talking about Cape boys in general!
-- Posted by StraightUp30 on Fri, Jul 13, 2012, at 4:02 PM
That JB running back is going to Ohio State from what I've heard. I highly doubt that's all they have either; every great running back that produces has a phenomenal team around him that helps. Week one will be very tough for cape. This group of boys hasn't played a team like JB. I think the last time the school played a team similar was Parkway North in 2009, they had several d1 football recruits that year.
IMHO, I think Cape will be much better than their overall record shows. The schedule is beefed up this year, I know they dropped NMCC and Perryville.
-- Posted by CapeAlum on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 10:44 AM
Elliott is headed to Ohio St for football and track. Campbell told me Elliott was talking trash to him at the state track meet in may. He said he cant wait to face him.
-- Posted by Bigups35 on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 4:53 PM
Well from what I've heard and seen even, JB seems to have a pretty good squad that's why I'm not taking away anything away from them. They're a well rounded squad no doubt, but they run everything off that one kid. Cape will have some answers, and with the speed and power of J. Campbell, J.Thomas, and C. Martin even I think JB will have a run for their money. I'm excited to see the boys go at it!
-- Posted by StraightUp30 on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 5:05 PM
Nothing against Cape, but I don't see them staying withing 20 points of JB. I hope Cape pulls the shocker and beats them but I just don't think that is going to happen. I'll be there for that game
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 5:18 PM
Agreed. Don't see that one being close.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 6:13 PM
I'm just gonna leave that up to them. I just believe if they play hard they can. Success doesn't always beat heart, will, and desire! Not saying that JB don't have either one of those things; I'm just expecting a surprise. I mean if they get beat, they just get beat.. they win, then they win. It'll be a new style of game neither team has seen before honestly probably.
-- Posted by StraightUp30 on Sat, Jul 14, 2012, at 8:42 PM
Elliott isnt the only thing JB has plus their coach gets them playing with alot of heart also. They have alot of returning starters coming back.

Dexter's Schedule: (According to MaxPreps)
1. Aug. 24 @ Ste. Genevieve
2. Aug. 31 Poplar Bluff
3. Sept. 7 @ Sikeston
4. Sept. 14 @ Caruthersville
5. Sept. 21 Kennett
6. Sept. 28 @ NMCC
7. Oct. 5 Charleston
8. Oct. 12 Park Hills Central
9. Oct. 19 No game yet listed
MaxPreps has been known to make mistakes before so I'm not 100% sure about this. NMCC should come to Dexter this year and we should go to PHC based on last years schedule. Also, I'm guessing that the last game will be against either Malden or Fredericktown. Does anybody know for sure? Personally, I hope it's against Malden as that is a big rivalry game. Go Bearcats!!
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Jul 16, 2012, at 8:45 PM
Well I guess it won't be Fredericktown. MaxPreps has them hosting North County on Oct. 19.

wow, dexter could actually be a pretty good team this year but start out 0-4 with their schedule.
-- Posted by myershallred on Tue, Jul 17, 2012, at 5:25 PM
Dexter has a brutal first 4 weeks. After that tough stretch of games, they have a chance to win out, maybe other than Park Hills. I see them going 3-7 with that schedule!
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Jul 17, 2012, at 6:56 PM
Sorry that's 4-5 lol..
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Jul 17, 2012, at 7:06 PM
Looks like most of the Class 3 schools have pretty tough early schedules. Should be another fun year of football, I can't wait!
-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 11:28 AM
I think Dexter will be underdogs against Sikeston, Caruthersville, and Park Hills, but even odds against Ste. Gen and Poplar Bluff and favorites to win the rest of their games. Like us, Ste. Gen lost alot to graduation and has some big question marks, esp. replacing Weiler at QB. Still, it will be a tough game on the road for the season opener. Bluff has been way down the last couple of seasons; there's no doubt in my mind we would've beaten them and this season we've got them at home.
I think we'll be 5-4, maybe even 6-3 heading into the playoffs.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 12:00 PM
I double-checked Dexter's schedule with the school's on-line activies calendar and it is correct. We go to Malden on Oct. 19. That means we've got 5 away games and 4 home games which kind of stinks. I was wrong above when noting that we should go to Park Hills, but I still don't know why we're going to NMCC two years in a row. They should come to Dexter this season, but we'll just have to make the trip again this year it looks like.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 12:43 PM
Ste Gen's questions to me are their skill players, I think they lost about all of them from last year's team. Also what experience they have on the O & D lines. However I have no doubt the QB will be good, saw him take a few snaps last year, as good as Weiler without the experience. The teams that get Ste Gen late in the year may have their hands full. Early, they may be beatable...
-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 1:34 PM
Ste. Gen returns an all-state WR (I think) in Schwent. I believe 3 WRs are back. 2 or 3 linemen as well. Entire secondary returns. They should be solid from the get-go. I'd put them and Park Hills pretty even at this point to represent District 1.
-- Posted by MU_Tigers on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 1:44 PM
I see 5-4 for Dexter beating Bluff, NMCC, Kennett, Charleston, and Malden. Preach, sometimes when there is redistricting, schedules for home and away have to be switched so that all teams have five home and four away or vice versa designated. I know Sikeston had that with a few different teams over the last few years playing two in a row at each place.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 2:20 PM
Thanks for the clarification on the scheduling, Sideline. And you may be right about Dexter's record. I'm inclined to agree with you, but I still think the Ste. Gen game is very winable for us. The Dragons run the spread and are pass-oriented. That plays into the strength of our defense, esp. with an inexperienced QB. If we can force a few pics, then we have a real shot. Of course, only time will tell.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 3:18 PM
I'm not saying they don't have a shot in the other games. The good teams around here can win any game. That's just my early inclination for wins and losses.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 3:34 PM
I understand Sideline, and as I said, I'm inclined to agree with you. What's your early inclination on Sikeston this season for wins and losses?
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 4:22 PM
I see them somewhere between 6-3 and 9-0. I hate predicting perfection but I don't see a team on the schedule they couldn't beat. Cape and Farmington will both obviously still be good and Jennings and Cardinal Rittet are still relatively unknown to me. I'd be shocked if the Bulldogs were worse than 6-3 though and really 6-3 would even surprise me.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 5:22 PM
Fair assessment, Sideline, although I would expect both Jennings and Cardinal Ritter will be very tough games.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 10:25 PM
Ritter was 5-5 last year on a fine but not great schedule. Jennings was better. They had a 7-2 regular season record and lost in the first round of the playoffs in a blowout against St. Charles West. Not too overly formidable.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Jul 18, 2012, at 10:48 PM
Caruthersville use to play Ritter, they remind me a lot of Hayti, very very athletic, but poor discipline at the LOS. It's been a couple years since we played them but I'm sure they still have top notch athletes. Sikeston should win that game though.

Dexter will be better than given credit. DJ Dowdy is a very accurate passer, the only problem is that he may not have as much time to throw as Stevens had and he doesn't have Miller back who in my opinion was an all state caliber 1st team receiver. Yes Dexter still has Neldon and Young.
SG has a good QB coming up that has a lot of weapons around him.Not as strong of an arm as last years or as accurate but will be an area top QB. SG lost one reciever and the RB they have this year is a stud, at 5'8 185.What will make SG a good team this year is their lines will be huge and strong. They finally have TE FB type kids so they can really diversify on offense.I believe seven starters bac kon defense.Park Hills is still the team to beat in the district but SG and PH are very close.

You guys think dexter will beat bluff? Just curious why?
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Thu, Jul 19, 2012, at 5:17 PM
Dexter has had a better team the past two seasons and Bluff has been way down as well. Is there any reason to believe the Mules will be any better this season?
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Thu, Jul 19, 2012, at 6:15 PM
Well I don't know. Has anybody seen or heard from bluff this year?
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Thu, Jul 19, 2012, at 6:21 PM
yes, bluff has been down the last couple of years. however, the schedule they've played hasn't done them many favors either. this is barrousse's 2nd year back and the mules will be better. dexter probably would've beaten them last year but i don't see it happening this year. i think the mules will start to turn the corner this season and possibly finish at .500. not great granted, but definitely a step in the right direction in getting the program turned around.
-- Posted by myershallred on Fri, Jul 20, 2012, at 9:05 AM
I bet they will be halfway decent this year
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Fri, Jul 20, 2012, at 5:55 PM
John Burroughs only lost a few players due to graduation. Key losses were mainly in their LB core. They have potentially 3 Div. 1 athletes which include a OT-DT that is 6'4 255, Elliot RB and a receiver-DB that can light you up. DT is built impressive for a h.s. player. Read an article couple weeks ago that commented on the Elliot kid living in Alton Illinois..If that is the case, Alton H.S. lost a stud but Burroughs picked up one....Farmington lost a lot. Look for them to be ranked 4-5 in their district. Festus is hurting at QB as their QB moved to Kirkwood. NC will be much, much better as they have many more athletes than in the past.Sikeston and Cape will both be better than Farmington and for the first time in years, Farm-N. County will be a decent game.....
-- Posted by Horizontal Stretch on Sun, Jul 22, 2012, at 12:11 PM
Does anyOne know how sikeston and Farmington are looking this year?
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Tue, Jul 24, 2012, at 5:18 PM
Farmington will be down as they lost 10 starters or all eleven on offense. They have their scrimmage Thur and Fri. from 5 until 8. Sikeston should be good but not real sure about their personnel...
-- Posted by Horizontal Stretch on Tue, Jul 24, 2012, at 10:11 PM
How's Bluff? Been pretty bad lately.
-- Posted by BillYung on Tue, Jul 24, 2012, at 10:13 PM
pb went to the 2nd round of the playoffs in 09 before losing at sikeston. the last 2 seasons, the mules have won only 3 games. some issues with the previous coach definitely contributed to that. with mark barousse in his 2nd year now as coach again with the mules, things will get better. numbers are up a bit and pb appears to have more athletes on the field than in past years. i think a .500 season is a reachable goal this year and would mark a pretty good turnaround and a step in the right direction for the program.
-- Posted by myershallred on Wed, Jul 25, 2012, at 7:41 AM
No disrespect intended for any of Poplar Bluff's football players or staff, but after looking at their schedule and given the last two seasons, I think a .500 season for Bluff is a stretch. But I wish them the best (except against Dexter, of course, LOL).
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Jul 25, 2012, at 5:07 PM
Tigers, Sikeston is going to have another very good team this year. Everybody I've talked to has said their defense is similar in ability to the ones of 2009 and 2010 and the offense has a lot of weapons to work with. Good quarterback, top notch corps of running backs. As long as the offensive line is consistent, they will be tough for anybody.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Jul 26, 2012, at 9:17 AM
Is Caruthersville playing anywhere this week? I was wanting to go see how the returning talent looked. Any local teams going to Farmington tonight and tomorrow?
-- Posted by Gus_Belenski on Thu, Jul 26, 2012, at 11:21 AM
Caruthersville already played in the Sikeston Contact Camp! They have a ton of talent on this year's team. Going to be a more balanced offense and not just relying on the run game. Should be a great year for them!
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Jul 26, 2012, at 12:05 PM
I can't make any predictions, but here's my two cents on St.Francois county teams:
Park Hills Central has a ton of returning starters on both sides of the ball. I've heard through the grapevine that there may be a change or two on offense.
It is rumored that North County may have something up their sleeves this year. They are "supposed" to be better than they have been in a while. That is all hearsay, of course.
Farmington lost a TON of players. I have no idea what they are gonna do, fa'real! They have a good coach and they are a pretty resilient team, so they may pull something out of the hat!
....I can't wait until football season! I will be filming all of the Central games, so I will post a link to the videos when they play SEMO teams.

Who will be the Feature RB and QB for Sikeston this year? They graduated a lot of skill players last year.
-- Posted by CoachJ914 on Sun, Jul 29, 2012, at 11:09 PM
What about Hayti?
-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 2:01 AM
Tell me more experts!
-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 2:02 AM
Kyland Gross, the small but really speedy and smart running back from last year has converted to QB and will be pretty good. Chris Word, a junior, will be the featured running back but there will be multiple running backs as always with Sikeston.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 7:20 AM
Sideline, have you heard or seen how Gross is doing throwing the ball?
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 8:39 AM
From what I've heard, he's getting there. I don't know if he will be a phenomenal passer, but the information I've gotten is that he won't be any sort of liability throwing the ball. Won't be like last year where it seemed like 90% of our plays were running the ball with most of the other 10% being dump off passes. Two-a-days should definitely help.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 9:05 AM
Is there a possibilty of rotating quarterbacks again?
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 9:50 AM
The Dogs will also have one other RB. I think his name is Marquez Newman. He is only a sophomore and is supposed to be very good. I think Nick Nichols will get some carries as well.
-- Posted by Rocket689 on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 9:50 AM
Reddirt, I'm in no way inside of the minds of the coaches so I can only offer my own take on it but I believe it is going to just be Kyland playing QB unless injured or if there is some sort of one-off trick play with somebody else under center.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 11:32 AM
I hope your right sideline. I don't like the rotating system at all! Especially in high school. I think it's to hard for the QB to get in a rhythm.
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Mon, Jul 30, 2012, at 1:12 PM
You could come up with what Lamar did. Play both at the same time....
-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Jul 31, 2012, at 9:56 AM
It would be interesting to put both Kyland and Reese Porter who I think will be the JV QB in at the same time some but Reese isn't ready for full-time varsity QB yet.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Jul 31, 2012, at 10:48 AM
I know we're discussing a lot of big schools here but does anyone have an idea on the smaller schools and who will be good this year? Scott city, Chaffee, hayti, Malden, and east prarie?
-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Aug 1, 2012, at 7:37 AM
Hayti should be solid. They have a very good QB in Karnard Humes and some burners at Wide Reciever. They also return a All-State Linebacker in Michael Thomas. I believe depth is their biggest issue.
-- Posted by Matt Duckworth on Wed, Aug 1, 2012, at 1:11 PM
I have it on good authority that Tanner Murphy will not be playing football for Malden this season. He is evidently totally focused on his baseball career. My info also says that their back-up QB has also quit the team. If that is so, I'm afraid it's going to be a long season for the Green Wave.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Aug 6, 2012, at 4:44 PM
I believe even if Murphy were to play this year, they wouldn't be any better than they were last year. He was a stud QB but just didn't have enough help. I think it's a smart decision on his behalf though. Save his arm for baseball and no risk of getting injured! Sucks for Malden Football.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Aug 6, 2012, at 5:42 PM
I agree Cheesehead.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Aug 6, 2012, at 5:47 PM
Word around the area is that Bluff will be marginally better, but nothing spectacular. Inexperience at every position, especially quarterback. Looks like another long year for the Mules.
-- Posted by BillYung on Tue, Aug 7, 2012, at 3:20 PM
Preacher, I have heard the same thing about Tanner Murphy...from a good source as well. I did not hear about the back up. May be a long year for Malden football.
-- Posted by Rocket689 on Tue, Aug 7, 2012, at 3:52 PM
Rocket, I'm afraid you're right about Malden's season this year without Murphy at QB. My son is good friends with one of Malden's football players and he confirmed it today to him that Murphy is not playing this season.
BillYung, there seems to be differing views on Poplar Bluff. See earlier comments on this thread from a poster who believes the Mules may go .500 this season. Frankly, given the last couple of seasons plus their schedule this year, that seems like a stretch to me, but time will tell.

I just talked to some family who live in Malden
and they did say that Tanner Murpy did decide
last week not to play football this year and
just focus on baseball. Also their back up
quater back Darrin Green who wasn't a too bad
of a player is not going to play he is goinig to
focus on beta club and baseball they said.According to them a freshman is their
choice for quaterback right now so everything
is thinking this might be a very long season
for Malden football.

Once again you all got it wrong!!! Dexter has no shot of beating SG especially at our house! And don't get me started on PH really they make the playoffs in a stupid playoff system and they think there a power house program!! SG will be the team to beat once again but I do think the Cville game will be a good one!! Oh what's PH record against SG the last 25 years? Just wondering!! Feels GREAT to be back different board same BG haha
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Tue, Aug 14, 2012, at 3:32 PM
I appreciate your passion for your Dragons, Bleed Green, but you're hardly being objective. The truth is that Ste. Gen lost alot to graduation while Park Hills brings back most of their team. Ste. Gen has many more question marks than Park Hills does entering the season. Why are you so sure Ste. Gen will beat Dexter when we've won 2 of the last 3 games? Now they may very well win the game, but its hardly a sure thing.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Aug 14, 2012, at 6:09 PM
You obviously havnt watched PH play alot! They could have all the talent in the world and Schweiss would blow it! What's SG ? Marks QB RB!! That's all there o line is going to b great as well as there d line! They have all there secondary back as well and not to mention an all state WR!! Matt Drury the QB is going to be good really good!! He's 6'2 and has a very accurate arm along with some good wheels!! And at RB the We have 2 juniors Dallas and I don't remember other one but both are going to be good! Dallas had a few kick returns for TDS last year! And don't forget about the Allstate Dan Terana 6'6 260 he's a beast going to be hard to stop him!! Oh and our Coaches are pretty darn good to best in State IMO! Weiler is an offensive genius!!

I really don't know much about St. Gen but I'm glad we are playing them this year. Caruthersville has been making strides at beefing up their schedule by adding Liberty(Mountain View) and St.Gen. Both games will be tough for the Tigers but playing them will make them better and more prepared for the playoffs, win or lose! Looking forward to hosting St.Gen.. Come say hello to me and beef BleedGreen.. We are friendly people!

That's the truth Zach! On serious side Drury is really good, but still inexperienced. I don't doubt he will come up to speed quick. Same to be said on the RB's Bleed points to. They seem to me to be about like a couple years ago, talented but inexperienced, got beat early but came on late in the season.

Will do Cheesehead! I've heard and read a lot about your program! I really believe its going to be a great game! And Zach thanks for the kind words I missed you 2!!! Guys going to b a great season IMO!!! Anyone have a Sleeper team? I don't know if I'd consider them a sleeper but I think Freddy could b good!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 9:26 AM
Don't know Bleed, I haven't seen my 'Cats yet in action. QB and skill positions will be senior dominated (with a really good sophomore as WR and in Def secondary), but unless some kids had a growth spurt, the O/D lines may be on the small side. If they are going with the spread offense, maybe they overcome that size problem. They've had more time to get better at it.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 11:29 AM
I may have to eat my words. Just checked a roster out, several of those linemen boys have bulked up on the Blackcat squad! I just hope they are quick off the line....
-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 11:36 AM
I heard Freddy tore it up at Farmington this year! Heard there D looked really good!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 12:29 PM
That makes me feel good BG, but then again it's coming from you! ;) Couple of those small kids make up for it with athletic ability. Justin Sawyer plays about a foot taller than his 5' 3" stature.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 12:49 PM
That hurts! (not really) if it makes you feel better I heard that straight from a former Freddy coach! Let me ask u this how many times have u seen SG with a huge line? And we have done pretty darn well! Don't get me wrong it helps but as long as they are strong have good foot work they will b fine! Especially in the spread!!! I don't know if remember about 10 years ago we had a lineman by the name of Jerrod Kertz he was 5'9 around 190 but was strong as a rock we played Festus that's when they had Kyle Riggs 6'5 275 and a Mizzou signee! Jerrord ate that boys lunch all game! As coach Stoltzer would say PLAY WITH HEART!! I really believe a lot of Freddy's players do just that!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 1:08 PM
It's not the size of the lineman but all about technique. Want a good example? Just look at Webb City's lineman. Not big at all but they are the best team in Class 4 on a yearly basis. Sure having big boys up front helps but if they don't know how to block or any of the proper techniques, then it don't matter how big they are. Just my opinion.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 1:18 PM
I agree with ya Cheesehead!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 2:48 PM
Good to hear from you, Bleed Green. Its been a while since we've heard from you. SG is big but they need to still iron out a few kinks. Drury is very quick more so than fast and is accurate. Very good receivers however, SG may have lost one of their real good rb's for a while, not sure. Receivers are better all around due to not having to play any sophomores. Lots of depth. Defense can light you up which SG hasn't been able to do in a while.
Fredtown will be pretty good this year as they did't lose many seniors. Gremminger at QB will be a load and couple good receivers, esp little but quick Sawyer kid.
ParkHills is the team to beat in the district as they have the most skill athletes back to go along with their always big boys up front.
Jamboree's on Friday will show a little bit but don't put a lot of stock in what happens. Look for execution
-- Posted by Horizontal Stretch on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 8:08 PM
Semoball North posters (and let's define that as everything north of Perryville), what would you all rank as the top tier or in order top three to five teams up there? I'd assume Farmington and Park Hills would be on the list. Ste. Gen probably as well. I'm just curious. Trying to gauge everyone so that I can get some insight for my preseason top five or ten. I'd figure things will definitely be a little clearer after jamboree as well.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 8:19 PM
BG top 5 in this area would be Farm, SG, Valle, Freddy, PH subject to Chang after Friday!! I was pretty darn accurate on my picks last year! Everyone said SG would win 5 games I said 10 everyone said PH would beat SG! I said NO WAY!! I said PH would win 6 games!! How many they win? Everyone said PH would Face JB in quarters I said SG would!! This season is wide open no clear cut favorites IMO but I know What SG Valle PH and Freddy have and SG is clearly better! I don't know about Farm yet I know they lost a lot but they also have Huge numbers gotta have some talent lying around!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 8:50 PM
Farmington is the team I'm most curious about. Sikeston, Caruthersville, and Cape are the three best down this way. After that is a lot of question marks in my eyes.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 9:22 PM
Gotta agree with you there, Sideline. My pre-season Top 5 would be Caruthersville, Sikeston, Cape Central, Dexter, and Hayti in that order. Jackson and Poplar Bluff just have too many question marks at this point. For the teams up north, I would think Valle Catholic would be the top team with Park Hills, Ste. Gen, Farmington, and Fredericktown all pretty close.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 9:59 PM
SG and ParkHills flip a coin, after them, I'd go with NC(yes) then Farmington due to having only one starter back and Fredtown then Valle. Valle has good talent however they are small and have no depth I didn't say a little depth, I said no depth. I think with Freds skill and line play, I would take them over Valle. Valle-Hayti will be a good game, NC-Farm, SG-PHills. South I would go with Sikeston, Cape and Caruthersville but don't know what order. Not sure how good Sikestons O line will be, heard there may be some concerns...
-- Posted by Horizontal Stretch on Wed, Aug 15, 2012, at 10:36 PM
Who's the Player or Players to watch this year?
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 8:25 AM
For Sikeston offensively I would say Kyland Gross at QB and Nick Nichols and Chris Word at RBs. Kyland is really quick and elusive while Nick and Chris have pretty good speed and a good amount of strength to burn.
-- Posted by yah-yah on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 9:02 AM
I'm not overly concerned about the o-line. I think they are a bit better than last year and have a stronger group of players behind them than last year. Also, the defense is going to be pretty good which should hopefully make up for any shortcomings in the offense.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 9:20 AM
For Caruthersville it's obviously Darrell Monroe who will be the premier back for the Tigers this year, along with playing DE on defense. Caruthersville also has 6'4 220 Tyler Grissom who will be much much improved from his sophomore season. He is a duel threat QB that will have plenty of talented targets this year. On both the offensive and defensive line we have the Stricklin Brothers, Jay Stricklin who is 6-4 325 and his younger brother Landon who is 6-3 280.. Jay is a D-1 talent on the offensive side. People will hear more about Hunter Dickey as well, kid is a ball hawk on defense and will be a big force for the Tigers this year. Barring any injuries this year, this will be a very good group for Cville.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 9:38 AM
Cville looks solid! Should be a great game!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 9:51 AM
I think the one weakness we have this year will be our secondary. We are having to replace a few guys from last year so they will be a little inexp to start the year but will get better as the year goes on. Coming in to last year, that was a concern for Cville also but it turned out to be one of our strong points. We have a great head coach and a great coaching staff so they will have everyone ready when the playoffs roll around.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 9:57 AM
Class 4 Dist. 1 looks to be VERY competitive. The only team I think not capable of at least a 5 & 4 record before week 10 is Perryville. Sikeston finishes #1 but those second round games could be real good, with NC being my most improved sleeper there. There's seven teams there who could win it.
Class 3 Dist 1 has SG, Dexter, PHC and Fredmo as the top four to me and anyone of them can come out as winner of the district. Watch out for Potosi.
Class 2 Dist 1, Caruthersville is the class winner no matter what.
Class 1 Dist 1, Valle no doubt, but will they have a 9 & 0 year?
Not to leave out PB & Jackson, they are competing with city and suburban schools, I don't see them winning their districts this year.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 11:02 AM
It may be a year or two away but look for Jackson to come roaring back some time soon. Their new coach did very well at Union and I think is the right guy to get them back to being the team we all used to know.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 11:10 AM
To say that Class 1 D1 is Valle's no doubt might be a stretch, they have to reload big time which they have been able to do in recent years but they are in by far the toughest(Class 1) district in the state. Hayti, Thayer, Crystal City are going to be tough. Traditionally St. Vincent and on occasion Chaffee are tough as well.
Class 2, SEMO area might not be strong but until the Tigers get past Maplewood (and im not saying that they cant) east side still belongs to the wood.
Class 3 is about like class 1, there are favorites but really anyone can compete.
Class 4 is out of my knowledge range but id imagine that Sikeston, Farmington and Hillsboro will be some of the top teams
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Thu, Aug 16, 2012, at 4:19 PM
I look for Sikeston's RB Nick Nichols to have a breakout, monster season. The kid was an absolute stud in his first season of wrestling last year. He also seems like a really good kid too.
As for Dexter, I look for senior OL/DL Chase Noe, Logan Quertermous, and Dylan Aaron to have big seasons too. Senior WR/DB Chase Young and junior WR/DB Cody Neldon will have big seasons too on both sides of the ball. Our secondary will be a real strength for the Bearcats. Both Young and Neldon are real game changers. Junior QB D.J. Dowdy should also put up good numbers and I predict senior RB/LB Ryan Joyner will surprise a lot of people this season.
Two underclassmen to keep your eye on are sophomore RB/LB Dylan Bazarian and freshman QB Ethan Stevens. Ethan will QB the JV team and be the back-up on the varsity. One Dexter coach told me that Ethan is a better athlete than his older brother Cody was at that age. A star in the making to be sure.

Preacher Man, I agree with you about Ethan's ability but if his attitude is anything like his older brother's, then he will bring the team down.

IMO Valle will be ok during Reg season but will get beat early in playoffs!! There schedule is pretty weak I think they play school of blind first week!! Been doing some checking up on Dexter and my informant says there going to be better then expected!! My bad Bearcat fans!! I think we get a better idea of our teams after tomorrow!! But I can already see Zach saying ( Park hills was dominate tonight there O line is huge and There RB is a stud and there D was dominate!!) I wonder if they called and asked me to be moved from the sideline yet like last year haha really did them some good!! Gotta love PH

Who will make the SLAP reel from tonight's jamboree in SG?
-- Posted by zachattack on Fri, Aug 17, 2012, at 9:56 AM
I just love how everyone likes to sit back and teams "JUDGE" teams without knowing the full stories.....there are a few surprises in a team you all "wrote" off....will never really know how it has been in the class it is-but that's a different story. just wait -just wait
-- Posted by Guest21 on Fri, Aug 17, 2012, at 11:31 PM
Guest21- Please enlighten us all on who we "wrote off" At least we put the team we are talking about and don't leave things up to mystery. We are all here for friendly debate, and most don't shy away from backing up what they say. I'm curious to know what team your talking about. BTW- Welcome to the board, always love seeing new people on here!

Guest 21 most of us on here have played for our respected teams and still follow them very close year after year. I started watching SG football at age 12 when we lost to Lutheran North in the semis then watching Racing Jason Boyer rush for 1700 and a STATE TITLE that I paid 20 in 8 grade to ride on a school bus to Columbia oh and I was the only non senior high kid on bus!!! I played 4 years under two of the greates coaches in this state although my career wasn't as good as it could of been that's my fault and a diff story!! I am now 35 I have lived in Seattle wash and listened to games on Prepcast every night paying 400 to come home to watch Kory Faulkner my friend Play!! Just to turn around a week later towns pay another 400 to watch him play in the state Semis against owensville!!! I haves since moved back I go to every game home or away I root for my team when we suck and I root for them for when we don't!! After watching high school football for so long u figure out which programs are good and which are bad I get to see kids and you remember what they are all about!! As for SG I watch these kids On Fri, mon, tue, and now on thur that's how I know what SG has!! So forgive me if this is long but if you don't have anything educated to say please don't say it!!

Do you have the key to the city of Ste Genivieve too?
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 3:30 PM
Haha no trust me that would never happen!! I was just trying to make a point that we do know high school football and that we're not just on here speculating!! And I know myself I mean no harm it's all about having fun and talking football with guys who share the same passion!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 4:05 PM
howd the teams look at the farmington jamboree?
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 4:24 PM
I heard Farm surprised a lot of people!! Going to be better then expected!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 4:33 PM
PERRYVILLE!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT!! Has an incredible amount of RAW TALENT and a few coaches that are out of this world!! I myself am not from this area- just a lover of FOOTBALL- grew up watching football and my brother was a first round draft pick for Steelers in 1986. This team has had a few blows and seems to lack the confidence as a whole but has some individual players that have unharnessed talent-they seem to be a smaller team then the division suggests?? Not sure how this is done in the midwest. In talking to some locals, it appears there have been some key injuries that this team has suffered over the past few years-and several coaching changes-from what I saw-looks like a couple of coaches lost out at coaching some amazing talent-I wouldn't count them out! If not big numbers this year-most definately next year!
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sat, Aug 18, 2012, at 11:27 PM
I'll go ahead and put that prediction right into the "Wishful Thinking" column next to any team but Caruthersville winning Class 2 District 1 and any SEMO Class 4 team beating Webb City.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 12:02 AM
ThaT'S Fine-you are entitled to your opinion. I never said they would bring home a title-espcially in this midwest state that is riddled with scandal and politics-way too Bible-beltish. However what I look for is REAL TALENT. Talent that could stand up to REAL TEAMS.As I said-may not be this year-Look at the real individual talent-more is there then what most will see. This school was really let down by a few former Coaches-speculation that some "caculated politics" were involved-sadley it's only the students that have suffered-there are a team of highly skilled and dedicated Coaches now-Unlike the 2 prior...just wait and see...
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 1:16 AM
I agree Perryville has had some really bad coaches in th past 10 years hell maybe even the past 15 years! I play ball in pville and I myself wonder why they don't have a better football team then they do! I know last year I saw 0 players on that team that could of played for SG they were very indisciplined they looked like they didn't want to be out there! That might be because of there coaches! If pville plans on becoming a football program you gotta hire a coach who is a no bullshit guy and who will love his players like there his own! And who actually knows FOOTBALL!!!!!! Sorry pville fans this might take years!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 8:40 AM
You are 100% WRONG....there are several players who work year round on getting stronger, faster, and better. Their current coaches DO CARE and love them as their own. It may only be a beginning-but everything has to start somewhere-and no it's not going to take years-the talent is there NOW.
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 9:10 AM
And as far as o players that were any good and undisciplined??? There were several huge injuries....1 kid playing WITH a torn ACL and PSL (had surgery right after the season ended)-another kid rehabbing from ACL surgery the prior year-then broke his hand and played with cast- those kids are undisciplined???
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 9:16 AM
I was there I was standing on Pville side I saw how they played they gave up 73 points!! SG was good last year but not that good!! And u wanna talk discipline pville had how many kids suspended because of drinking? Try like 7 and most of them were starters so please forgive me if I don't think that that is discipline!! Pville might win 4 games this Year they can't compete in 4A nor with the likes of SG or other established programs!! Pville should just stick to Soccer that's Football in Europe right!!! Haha just playing 4 wins and that's being nice!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 9:49 AM
Bleed Green,
Perryville should be the least of your worries right now......shouldn't you be trash-talking Dexter?
OH, BURN!!!!!!!!!
:)
-- Posted by zachattack on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 10:09 AM
I was at Perryville Jamboree and I can offer you these opinions, Perryville looked good against a smaller Scott City team, played even against Potosi with the help of a couple of lucky bounces (tipped ball to #28)Potosi has a RB who could definitely play and against there class 1 cross town rivals, well honestly they took it pretty bad, gave up about 60 yards on first two plays, gave up a TD and were about to give up another before plays ran out. Offensively I dont think they gain over 30 yards including a couple of St. Vincent penaltys. This is all not to say that they werent close at times, Guest, I will give you this that PHS isnt downright awful anymore, But they sure aint good.
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 11:16 AM
7 players suspended? No- yes there were some bad decisions made sadley by some...most seniors and 1 Junior last year....and that junior no longer holds a starting position....and why must you stomp on anyone when they are down? How about seeing the good and giving some kuddos to what is there? The game against SG last year was a big disappointment-but due to injuries and 1 player's ( who is no longer a starter) poor judgment-they were left with no Quarterback- a senior -1st time football player stepped up. But what you didn't see is the Sophmore's that refused to throw in the towel....that have taken leadership roles and showed up EVERYMORNING since last year for weight training-Called out fellow teammates for bad behavior. There are a couple Seniors this year and several Juniors that need to be commended for their heart, attitude and commitment. Their actions on and off the field is far superior to that of any other team.....What the community-and surrounding communities have done to this team is horrific-they count them out-and tell them they will never win-I think that's sad! Words hurt-and they can not be erased in the mind of a young teenager. Stepping onto the field on Friday night is what several young football players dream about everynight since they first held a football. Now imagine you are a young freshman who has earned the right to make it in a Varsity game and your first play you recover a fumble! Then that next week in a JV game after leading the team in rushing yards, scoring 3 touchdowns-a sweep to the left results in a torn ACL and Meniscus-you fight the entire year to rehab-the next year you break your hand-still you play where you can-and work that much harder in the off season-This is one example-there are a few others on the Perryville team- Just give them the credit they DESERVE- They may not be State Champions this year-but don't count them out entirely! And for cripes sake don't put them down-it's mean and hurtful!
(And I know for a fact that several Dexter Football players are also guilty of drinking-and SG players as well....the difference is Pvile's head coach will not stand for it -even when a game is on the line.)
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 11:59 AM
Zach I promised my wife a little less trash talkn this year!! Haha I think SG will be fine Friday night!! I was just trying to put my 2 cents in!! Guest 21 you have to earn Respect do u honestly believe Perryville football should be takn seriously right now? If so have u been hiding under a Rock? They have been a laughing stock for years!! I do hope that changes but like I said time will tell!! Good luck on the season I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 12:25 PM
And for your comment about Dexter and SG kids Drinking just shows your lack of knowledge about our programs! I can't speak about Dexter but I really doubt there coach would tolerate that! I do know our coach and let me tell u Coach Stoltzer and Weiler wouldn't tolerate it I said the F word and I got suspended the whole second half of that game and ran Monday until I puked!! I may not always agree with Coach Stoltzer but I can promise you he does not tolerate that kind of behavior!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 12:37 PM
Guest21, seeing that your not from this area, let us welcome you to the board! First off, to get respect, or credit, you have to earn that here. Most of us have been following these schools for many years and we have a pretty good gauge on them. I know what your going through though at Perryville. Caruthersville used to be in the same boat as Perryville. They were an easy win back many years ago. They started taking the game more serious and got head coaches in there that cared and they turned the program around. It took hard work to get it where it is today and they have earned that respect they have now. People talking about them, how bad we were back in the day, it was all warranted. Perryville players are just going to have to shake all that trash talk off, go out and earn people's respect. Sikeston was the same way, they were nowhere near the program they are now, but with a little hard work, good coaching, they turned that program around to one of the better teams in Semo on a consistent basis, just like Caruthersville. You have to learn to quit taking things so personal. If we say they are not that good, it's not a personal attack, it's just our opinion about their program as a whole. We are not attacking the kids on a personal level or even the coaches. Learn to lighten up a little.
There are some pretty good guys and gals on this site, who for the most part, know what they are talking about. Loosen up a little and you'll enjoy the board more. Anyway, welcome to the board.

Come on guys...it is our duty as hardcore football fans and rivals to pick at each other in a friendly manner....
-- Posted by zachattack on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 2:51 PM
I agree Zach but he thinks we are attacking the players personally when we are not. I'm all about some heated debates but saying high school kids get drunk is really something that needs to stay off here. Let's keep it about the game and it's all gravy
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 3:22 PM
Yeah, that kind of stuff is a bit counterproductive.
-- Posted by zachattack on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 3:34 PM
I Agree Cheese!! Some guys just take things way to personal! When I said pville had 0 players that could play for SG that was based on the way they played that game and how they reacted on the field!! They literally gave up I have never seen a team do that!! As all of u know I love a good debate heated or not I'm passionate about my Dragons but I agree with cheese let's not Bash players by saying they get drunk!! If a player gets on here and runs there mouth then I'll give them some crap but not attack personally!! There was a player from PH last year who said "were are going to run the ball down SG throat and there's nothing they can do about it" well we shut down there run and I gave him crap a lot of crap but did not attack him as a young man!! Cheese any Hotels in the area were thinking about staying down there after the SG victory!! Haha
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 3:39 PM
There is the hotel by the Casino.. And btw, that sure will be a LONG drive home after a tough loss.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 3:55 PM
Any predictions on Farmgton at Festus? Festus always seems to play schools tough but never able to get the win. Farmington in a cake walk.
-- Posted by blackgold on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:16 PM
Ya I agree Farm by 24!! My friends son plays for Festus they have a few good players but I think the injury bug has hit them as well!!! Oh and cheese that would be a long drive home! I've made longer though!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:24 PM
Anyone know how DeSoto will be this year? They lost a big portion of their offense last year via Jared White to graduation.
-- Posted by blackgold on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:35 PM
Bleed Green-they DIDN'T give up-in fact they had mostly freshman and Sophmores out there....NO real Quarterback either- the 2nd and 3rd backups were hurt- one had a cast on his right hand! Last year Wojtczuk even said publically that Perryville's Varsity team was really at a JV level-very true-and each and every player would tell you the same thing-I personally think it takes some guts to go up against teams like that week after week. Wojtczuk took over a week before the season started. The coach before that was only there for a year-and the one before that left them too-along with a well liked assistant coach-It has been a tough road-but there are some fighters. Underclassmen are now Juniors and stepping it up. The Jamboree was the 1st time these boys really got to play- A Sophmore QB (last years Jr QB still plays-but likely won't get starter again)There is depth in the running backs- with lots of weapons-still some nerves and jitters to get over-but they played together as a team. Defense was pretty good as well- pay attention to the right side-not much will get past that side.
-- Posted by Guest21 on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:36 PM
Bleed Green.....I am gonna have to call you on the one about SG and Central last year.
I'm not sure if you remember, but
Central played no huddle during the first meeting last year....they slowed the tempo of the game waaaaay down and gashed SG ALL NIGHT LONG.
Sure, Central ended up losing due to a couple of costly mistakes in the 4th, but it is complete nonsense to say that SG shut the Rebels' run down. Central is not flashy. 4 yards. 2 yards.6 yards. 10 yards. 2 yards. 6 yards. 1 yard. 8 yards......etc.etc.etc. That is Central Rebels football.
I have no comments in regards to the 2nd meeting against Central and SG last year. Not pretty.
-- Posted by zachattack on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:44 PM
I really hope they do well Id rather see a Close SG Pville game then what I saw the last few years!! Time will tell for all of us our opinions will change by week 3 that I guarantee!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 4:46 PM
Cheese, let me also say how much I appreciated your response earlier to Guest21--it was very well said. As for the accusation of drinking by Dexter football players, Coach Pixley has let the entire team they have a zero tolerance policy and anyone caught drinking will be kicked off the team. That's how it should be and I commend him for it.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sun, Aug 19, 2012, at 5:00 PM
Guest,
In an earlier post you mentioned you are not from the area and weren't sure how the classes were done in the midwest, and got all of your information from asking the locals. So you played it off as if you really didn't know what was going on and were a newcomer looking for information. Now you seems to have some REALLY specific details about not only Perryville but SG and Dexter as well. Did you take a trip down here to pump the locals for information on Dexter kids' drinking habits last season? Or do you really have a little more background knowledge about SEMO football than what you led on before?
-- Posted by dex623 on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 9:06 AM
I'd say he probably just plays for Perryville and doesn't understand why Semoball isn't following the narrative his coaches are probably selling.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 9:30 AM
Seen Desoto at the SG jamboree and IMO they didnt look as good as their team last year. And i'm not saying their team last year was great.
-- Posted by hb1025 on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 10:35 AM
You're right sideline and I would say he plays on the right side of the defensive line based on his last post..

Oh How I love football........
-- Posted by Headhunt on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 11:14 AM
Zach I am talking about the 2nd game getween SG and PH!! We stopped the run the second game should of clarified that my bad!! And yes PH did a GREAT job of ball control the first game IMO they should of won the game but we all know why they didn't!!!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 11:45 AM
Dex I think he's probably the player that left dexter to go to Pville and has an axe to grind!! But grinding that Ax on some of the most respected Coaches in our area ain't the way to go about it!!! If he is a player I'm glad he has high hopes for his team but instead of talking crap on here he should let there play do the talking!! IMO
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 11:55 AM
BleedGreen, that is the 2nd time I've read about a Dexter football player that moved to Perryville. To my knowledge, that isn't the case however. I will double-check that with my sons. I know we did lose two players to Malden.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 12:57 PM
Preach, he may be referring to some random kid who went to Dexter and moved to Perryville in middle school and is now in high school or some weird thing like that. I didn't read as definitely a kid moving from Dexter to Perryville this summer. Who knows with this guy? I get the feeling that after a couple losses he will probably disappear anyway.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 1:02 PM
Most of them do disappear lol.. I've seen so many over my span at Semoball.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 1:59 PM
I was reading some quotes from Ferrote about JB he said he thinks there better this year then last!!!!! If that's the case Holy cow there going to be good!! I hope cape is ready!!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 4:16 PM
If any one is insterstead the st louis post dispatch newspaper is free on line. On the sports page it tells alot about the st. louis area football teams. They are now covering the top 10 teams they think who are going to be good in their area in both the small and large school's
divisions. They talk a lot about the returing players and who they think they think are going to be good and to watch out for. i find it inlighting.
-- Posted by country man on Mon, Aug 20, 2012, at 5:12 PM
I am not from around here-I do have friends in Dexter-and a few other small towns around SEMO due to my employment. I come from a long line of sports lovers-especially dealing with children. ( High School FB Coaches, Athletic Director, and Pro Football player). I have experienced 1st hand how sports can forever change the direction a child takes. I did not bring up the topic of drinking-I only responded to it. My only meaning is Wjotczuk will not allow behavior that has gone on in the past to continue-even when it is key players.
I definately have no Axe to grind with any team-I do get tired of other teams directly trash talking Perryville-making statements like they have no talent-they will never be anygood-(not just here but in general) as those statements are hurful to a kid who has put it all out on the field.
I sincerely hope the best to all teams-seeing the joy in a young kid after having a successful game - watching a team come together and accomplish something they hadn't done before is truely awesome. I definately am not trashing any other coaches-or any other football program-I apologize if any of my statements came out that way.
I'm only asking that you give teams a chance without making hurtful statements-
-- Posted by Guest21 on Tue, Aug 21, 2012, at 7:18 AM
Guest21,
I don't think anyone here is trashing any particular player. As far as questioning a coaches ability, well to me they are big boys and should be able to take whatever heat the wits and witless on this list might be able to dish out. A lot of what's being said about Perryville could very easily be said about Jackson or even Potosi, those schools only a few years ago had winning programs.
I've seen some of Perryville's football players in other sports, so as far as raw ability, I think it is there. Seems to me that there are two types of players: guys who come in with a natural knack for the game and those without a natural ability but a strong desire to play and play well. Coaching the first type of kid should be easy, only take maybe 10% being the coach to develop the kid into a competent player. The other type may need it to be 90% the coach in making the player.
So looking back at Perryville, there's a few kids with the natural ability so coaching them should be relatively easy. The other kids are the "problem". Has Coach W had time to develop those kids? I don't think so. It starts down even to the pee wee level. And with the impatience shown by either the community or the school board (or both) the high turn over seen the last several years there has reaped results.
As a fan, I hope they do improve. Close games are usually so much more exciting to watch than a big blow-out.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Aug 21, 2012, at 11:18 AM
If Perryville cant win week 1 or 2, there will be no W's to be had
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Tue, Aug 21, 2012, at 7:48 PM
Mojo3-
I agree with you 100%...from what I have seen here-the majority of the problem is the community and school board- Coach W has actually been with most of these kids for at least 3 years now- possibly 4 for the seniors (but can't be positive)- 1st year as an assistant. I know the coaches are doing all they can-but a definate downfall is the community support. There are several parents and assistant coaches that have stepped up to fill gaps- several of these kids have attended training programs, football camps ( Mizzou, and even Penn State football Camp) I believe they already have improved-I do believe they will win at least game and 2-and probably more!
-- Posted by Guest21 on Tue, Aug 21, 2012, at 8:38 PM
Cross town team gets too much of the community support for Perryville to ever get the ball rolling, theyre gonna have to have a 7 or 8 win season to get some people on the bandwagon. There was a year when they both made it to the playoffs(Much like Valle and SG this past year) in the mid 2000's. That was a neat atmosphere but Perryville never could sustain anything year to year
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Wed, Aug 22, 2012, at 9:25 AM
SG and Valle have made the playoffs in the same year probably 10 times at least! Not to mention them both winning State Titles in the same year! I would NEVER compare Pville and St vincent to them!! That's one thing I've never understood SG and Pville are right next to one another look at all the Talent that has came threw Valle and SG and your telling me if you step a foot over the county line and there's 0 talent! And Pville is way bigger then SG!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 22, 2012, at 11:38 AM
No need for Name calling man chill!! And who's really the dummy you just said don't act like SG is more superior! Referring to Valle And St Vincent Valle has 11 STATE TITLES 11 not 1 not 2 but 11!!!!! They are Considered THE BEST football program in the state as much as it pains me to say!!! Just saying man! 11!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have now what little credibility that existed with your blind homerism and townsmanship. Saying the are "THE BEST" leaving me to only think that you believe they are widely reguarded as Missouri's top football program, if you were to ask anybody who knows anything they will tell you they are ONE of the best with Jeff City, Webb, And Rockhurst. And technically Valle may be the 'most decorated' but even that is about because of a tie for a title. And if you care which I'm sure you don't, most people in the town of Ste gen are appauld at the way you get on here and represent your school. It's a shame they are mostly good humble people, so for other posters I hope you don't base opinions off this whack job.
-- Posted by NeverWasBeen on Wed, Aug 22, 2012, at 4:41 PM
Bleed Green is a crazed SG football fanatic and his posts have a tendency to get kinda obnoxious at times. Please forgive him, for his mind is plagued with worry. He is worried how SG is going to consistently stop the run when they play Central this year.

That's good I completely agree last year I was on another web site and it was a free for all!! I get attacked personally all the time! Im fine with it I just wish people wouldn't judge others by what they here or on here say or even a mans past! I was a little trouble maker as a teenager and a bit Cocky but I have changed but living in a small town like SG people are quick to judge and never forgive!! I'm a father of 4 work hard everyday !! I love SG football for my own personal reasons I love sports in general!! I don't mean harm by anything I say I just like talking to other fanatics who know the game as well!

BG, I haven't seen Daddy in person since deer season, but he's been on Facebook a few times. Was moving into the dorm for college last I heard. Don't know how many games he'll make it to, I expect he'll be around when bow season starts up. Still have his deerstand at my place....

whats your thoughts about dexters week one, preacherman and xcoach, and xcoach the oldest stevens boy has an attitude problem, the middle boys a good kid dont know about the youngest yet
-- Posted by Bowie67 on Sun, Aug 26, 2012, at 1:38 PM
Bowie67, I think we made a lot of mistakes against Ste. Gen that an inexperienced football team is going to make. Way too many penalties for example. I thought we played hard and the boys never quit even though they were so far behind. I saw improvement from the 1st half to the 2nd half. But you have to tip your helmet to Ste. Gen. They just lined up behind that massive OL and took it to us. No excuses, they were just the better football team that night.
There were plenty of positives for Dexter. Only two turnovers (and one of them was a bogus call that cost us an early TD). QB D.J. Dowdy had a great night rushing and passing for over 100 yards each. Our RB's were solid and WR's Young and Neldon were excellent. The OL is still a work in progress, but will be fine. Several of the underclassmen really stepped up and played a great game. That includes freshman QB Ethan Stevens who got a few snaps late in the 2nd qtr. and quite a bit of time at safety. Keep an eye on sophomore LB Noah Kronk too.
As for our defense, Ste. Gen caught us all flat-footed when they didn't come out in their spread offense. 3 weeks of prep went out the window! A couple of key injuries early in the game (one in pregame warm-ups) left us short-handed in the secondary and we gave up some long passes I don't think we ordinarily would've surrendered. We did force two turnovers. Again our defense is a work in progress, but we'll get steadily better there too I feel sure. I thought our special teams play was very good except for two shanked punts.
Can't wait for week 2 vs. Poplar Bluff, plus JV game tomorrow and a freshman game Thursday!

Preacher. How do you think dexter will do against bluff?
-- Posted by Tigers2638 on Sun, Aug 26, 2012, at 9:06 PM
Tigers2638, I think we have a real shot to beat them. This is a big rivalry game and we haven't played them in two years. I know the team is fired up for it, esp. with it being the first home game. I know they feel like they have something to prove after the bad loss at Ste. Gen. It will be a challenge though as the Mules surprised alot of people (me included) by handily beating Union.

Thanks Rachel, this board can become a mess at times, I don't think I got out of hand but I guess you deleted my post because it was in response to the one that was causing trouble..

My thanks too Rachel. My comment, like Beef's, got deleted too because it was also a response to the bad one that started it. That one definitely deserved to be deleted.

Hey Preach! I watched the Dexter/Poplar Bluff game and I just . to say. I really hate the home jersey's for Dexter this year. It's really hard to see the numbers on the uniforms. Is that just a one game thing, or have they got rid of the home black jersey's?

It's always somebody else's fault Preach you responded to the post you said what u said b a man and except it!! That's the problem most of u talk the talk but can't walk the walk!! Be a man if u say it stand behind it

Cheese, I agree with you on the uniforms. It looks like we're stuck with them for the rest of the season.
Bleed Green, once again you show you just don't know what you're talking about. Beef and I were responding to a poster that personally attacked me, X-Coach, and a current Dexter football player. Neither Beef nor I responded in kind, but Rachel deleted all our responses for the reasons she gave. She had to delete our posts too otherwise people wouldn't know what we were responding to and that would be confusing. As I said, I agreed with her for doing so. But that doesn't mean I don't stand behind what I wrote.

Preacher Man Fan are you gonna make the trip down to Caruthersville this year? If so I would like to meet up with you maybe get something to eat and talk football?
-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Sun, Sep 2, 2012, at 12:56 AM
Apology accepted Bleed Green and much appreciated.
Beef, we will definitely be making the trip to Caruthersville for what should be a great game! First we have to deal with Sikeston. But name a good place to eat and a time and we'll plan to meet. Bring Cheesehead with you. I appreciate the invitation.

Replies
Does anyone know when the contact camp at Sikeston is?
June 21-22 REDDIRT DOG.
Caruthersville is going to be VERY good this year. Probably even better than last year! I can't wait til the season kicks off!!! Go Tigers!!!
hayti legitt
Hayti is usually always legit. Is Hayti usually always discipline? Eeehh no. So if they can straighten that out they could be good, they are in a district that has held the Class 1 East representative 6 outta last ten years with 3 state championships so they better be real good to compete.
why is it that kennett is always a non factor in football. they have the tallent in this town but never can put anything together on the field. 1987 is a long time to wait for a playoff berth. this use to be a Football town. back then the bleachers were full every game.
Hey Bill how can you speak on the discipline at Hayti? Have you been at a practice or around the team? Or are you just making assumptions? Those kids work hard and DO have discipline. Hayti will be just fine next year.
I should have clarified, as cheese said I'm talking strictly between the lines football here, I have no knowledge of kids in the program outside of football and therefore couldn't say either way if I wanted to, sorry for the communication lapse
Doniphan will not field a team this year Gianthook.
Is Doniphan planning on trying to start its program back up in the next few years?
That's my understanding Gianthook from some Doniphan folks. I guess time will tell if they get it off the ground again.
I believe Cape is going to surprise a lot of people on how good they are going to be! Go Tigers!
Cape's size and activity levels were very impressive at contact camp......new facility, new mindset maybe...they seem to have it going in a good direction,
They have great O and D line to build around....
up to them to fill in the holes...
They had an athletic looking left handed QB at camp....any background on him ? Soph? Junior? Senior??
Well dang! its not a surprise anymore, you just told us.
headhunt his name is dennis vinson hes going to be a junior this year
I see that Kennett is scheduled to play at Portageville on Aug. 31, but MSHSAA's website says the game is cancelled?
Can anybody clear this up??
Vinson was the backup last season as a sophomore. He came in when cavaness got hurt at sikeston and played the perryville game.
I saw him "flick" his wrist on one deep corner route....went 35-40 yards...one step drop...
pretty impressive.....with that line, and a decent back or two, if he learns the position and makes good decisions......he could be a very effective QB
I don't think I see any mention of Jackson yet on this thread. Any thoughts or insights with where things are headed now that there's a new coach & system?
So any thoughts on Central's runningbacks this year ..... i think Campbell and Martin have something to prove this year.
Dustin
I was looking at schedules yesterday and I also noticed that as well. Can anyone from Kennett or Portageville give us some insight on why the game is cancelled or is it a mistake?
Cheese, I have to tell you that I've watched some film on Mt. View Liberty and they have a good bunch coming back. They played eventual state champ Lamar closer than anyone else in the playoffs. Can't match the Tigers speed wise but man they execute and are really disciplined. I figure will give the Tigers a better game than most folks in this area anticipate. Have to give both coaches kudos for strengthening their schedule.
Don't overlook Dexter, Cheese. The Bearcats will be better than expected. The conference championship should be decided when Dexter and Caruthersville play.
Not overlooking anyone Preacher! Of course, it's the game of football, where anything can happen. I do give Cville the advantage in that game though, Dexter lost too much and don't have Cody Stevens so that in itself will hurt them this year.
Hayti-Thayer opener should be dandy. I believe if Thayer can win first 4 games They go all the way, but not many class 1 teams could go through Hayti, Highland Ar., Liberty, and Salem.
The Bearcats need to keep there DBs and WRs healthy, especially the Neldon kid, because if he returns kick-offs and punts like he did last year, then he could be a game changer!
No question there, Reddirt Dog. The biggest concern with Cody Neldon is staying healthy; he has been injury prone. But when healthy, he is a great all-around athlete. A game changer, just like you said.
Nuff Said!
Musta forgot that d line we brought up to cape a couple years, they looked good but lets be straight up
That statement is even crazier the second time i read it
Also, it was just a contact camp.
Elliott is headed to Ohio St for football and track. Campbell told me Elliott was talking trash to him at the state track meet in may. He said he cant wait to face him.
Nothing against Cape, but I don't see them staying withing 20 points of JB. I hope Cape pulls the shocker and beats them but I just don't think that is going to happen. I'll be there for that game
Agreed. Don't see that one being close.
Elliott isnt the only thing JB has plus their coach gets them playing with alot of heart also. They have alot of returning starters coming back.
Hey sideline, where did you here about Sikeston and Farmington playing in the Dome?
Younger Sideline let me know about it the other day.
Any dates and times, and where to get tickets?
I don't have the logistical information. If I find it out before the general population, I'll make a post. Younger Sideline just let me know it's happening.
Anyone from Sikeston know they're schedule yet? If so, please post! Thanks

I believe it is on Saturday as well.
Rocket is correct, the game is now at the dome on Saturday the 15th vs Farmington. Game time is either 1:30pm or 1:45pm can't remember exactly. More details should come out in the next few weeks.
Yep. The game is on Saturday the 15th....forgot to put that. Thanks for watching my back, sideline.
Thanks Rocket and Sideline
Dexter's Schedule: (According to MaxPreps)
1. Aug. 24 @ Ste. Genevieve
2. Aug. 31 Poplar Bluff
3. Sept. 7 @ Sikeston
4. Sept. 14 @ Caruthersville
5. Sept. 21 Kennett
6. Sept. 28 @ NMCC
7. Oct. 5 Charleston
8. Oct. 12 Park Hills Central
9. Oct. 19 No game yet listed
MaxPreps has been known to make mistakes before so I'm not 100% sure about this. NMCC should come to Dexter this year and we should go to PHC based on last years schedule. Also, I'm guessing that the last game will be against either Malden or Fredericktown. Does anybody know for sure? Personally, I hope it's against Malden as that is a big rivalry game. Go Bearcats!!
Well I guess it won't be Fredericktown. MaxPreps has them hosting North County on Oct. 19.
Preacher Man,the Dexter High School activity calander has us at Malden Oct.19th
Thanks X-Coach. I was hoping that game didn't get dropped from our schedule!
wow, dexter could actually be a pretty good team this year but start out 0-4 with their schedule.
Dexter has a brutal first 4 weeks. After that tough stretch of games, they have a chance to win out, maybe other than Park Hills. I see them going 3-7 with that schedule!
Sorry that's 4-5 lol..
Looks like most of the Class 3 schools have pretty tough early schedules. Should be another fun year of football, I can't wait!
Ste. Gen returns an all-state WR (I think) in Schwent. I believe 3 WRs are back. 2 or 3 linemen as well. Entire secondary returns. They should be solid from the get-go. I'd put them and Park Hills pretty even at this point to represent District 1.
I'm not saying they don't have a shot in the other games. The good teams around here can win any game. That's just my early inclination for wins and losses.
I understand Sideline, and as I said, I'm inclined to agree with you. What's your early inclination on Sikeston this season for wins and losses?
I see them somewhere between 6-3 and 9-0. I hate predicting perfection but I don't see a team on the schedule they couldn't beat. Cape and Farmington will both obviously still be good and Jennings and Cardinal Rittet are still relatively unknown to me. I'd be shocked if the Bulldogs were worse than 6-3 though and really 6-3 would even surprise me.
Fair assessment, Sideline, although I would expect both Jennings and Cardinal Ritter will be very tough games.
Ritter was 5-5 last year on a fine but not great schedule. Jennings was better. They had a 7-2 regular season record and lost in the first round of the playoffs in a blowout against St. Charles West. Not too overly formidable.
Dexter has had a better team the past two seasons and Bluff has been way down as well. Is there any reason to believe the Mules will be any better this season?
Well I don't know. Has anybody seen or heard from bluff this year?
yes, bluff has been down the last couple of years. however, the schedule they've played hasn't done them many favors either. this is barrousse's 2nd year back and the mules will be better. dexter probably would've beaten them last year but i don't see it happening this year. i think the mules will start to turn the corner this season and possibly finish at .500. not great granted, but definitely a step in the right direction in getting the program turned around.
I bet they will be halfway decent this year
John Burroughs only lost a few players due to graduation.
Does anyOne know how sikeston and Farmington are looking this year?
Farmington will be down as they lost 10 starters or all eleven on offense. They have their scrimmage Thur and Fri. from 5 until 8. Sikeston should be good but not real sure about their personnel...
How's Bluff? Been pretty bad lately.
pb went to the 2nd round of the playoffs in 09 before losing at sikeston. the last 2 seasons, the mules have won only 3 games. some issues with the previous coach definitely contributed to that. with mark barousse in his 2nd year now as coach again with the mules, things will get better. numbers are up a bit and pb appears to have more athletes on the field than in past years. i think a .500 season is a reachable goal this year and would mark a pretty good turnaround and a step in the right direction for the program.
No disrespect intended for any of Poplar Bluff's football players or staff, but after looking at their schedule and given the last two seasons, I think a .500 season for Bluff is a stretch. But I wish them the best (except against Dexter, of course, LOL).
Is Caruthersville playing anywhere this week? I was wanting to go see how the returning talent looked. Any local teams going to Farmington tonight and tomorrow?
Caruthersville already played in the Sikeston Contact Camp! They have a ton of talent on this year's team. Going to be a more balanced offense and not just relying on the run game. Should be a great year for them!
What about Hayti?
Tell me more experts!
Kyland Gross, the small but really speedy and smart running back from last year has converted to QB and will be pretty good. Chris Word, a junior, will be the featured running back but there will be multiple running backs as always with Sikeston.
Sideline, have you heard or seen how Gross is doing throwing the ball?
From what I've heard, he's getting there. I don't know if he will be a phenomenal passer, but the information I've gotten is that he won't be any sort of liability throwing the ball. Won't be like last year where it seemed like 90% of our plays were running the ball with most of the other 10% being dump off passes. Two-a-days should definitely help.
Is there a possibilty of rotating quarterbacks again?
The Dogs will also have one other RB. I think his name is Marquez Newman. He is only a sophomore and is supposed to be very good. I think Nick Nichols will get some carries as well.
Reddirt, I'm in no way inside of the minds of the coaches so I can only offer my own take on it but I believe it is going to just be Kyland playing QB unless injured or if there is some sort of one-off trick play with somebody else under center.
I hope your right sideline. I don't like the rotating system at all! Especially in high school. I think it's to hard for the QB to get in a rhythm.
You could come up with what Lamar did. Play both at the same time....
It would be interesting to put both Kyland and Reese Porter who I think will be the JV QB in at the same time some but Reese isn't ready for full-time varsity QB yet.
I know we're discussing a lot of big schools here but does anyone have an idea on the smaller schools and who will be good this year? Scott city, Chaffee, hayti, Malden, and east prarie?
Hayti should be solid. They have a very good QB in Karnard Humes and some burners at Wide Reciever. They also return a All-State Linebacker in Michael Thomas. I believe depth is their biggest issue.
I have it on good authority that Tanner Murphy will not be playing football for Malden this season. He is evidently totally focused on his baseball career. My info also says that their back-up QB has also quit the team. If that is so, I'm afraid it's going to be a long season for the Green Wave.
I believe even if Murphy were to play this year, they wouldn't be any better than they were last year. He was a stud QB but just didn't have enough help. I think it's a smart decision on his behalf though. Save his arm for baseball and no risk of getting injured! Sucks for Malden Football.
I agree Cheesehead.
Word around the area is that Bluff will be marginally better, but nothing spectacular. Inexperience at every position, especially quarterback. Looks like another long year for the Mules.
Preacher, I have heard the same thing about Tanner Murphy...from a good source as well. I did not hear about the back up. May be a long year for Malden football.
How did Sikeston look in the Red V. Black Game?
Hey sideline or rocket---What happened to Trey Lewis at SEMO??

Bleed Green hasn't changed much. See you in Park Hills! haha
I may have to eat my words. Just checked a roster out, several of those linemen boys have bulked up on the Blackcat squad! I just hope they are quick off the line....
I heard Freddy tore it up at Farmington this year! Heard there D looked really good!!
That makes me feel good BG, but then again it's coming from you! ;) Couple of those small kids make up for it with athletic ability. Justin Sawyer plays about a foot taller than his 5' 3" stature.
I agree with ya Cheesehead!!
Farmington is the team I'm most curious about. Sikeston, Caruthersville, and Cape are the three best down this way. After that is a lot of question marks in my eyes.
Who's the Player or Players to watch this year?
For Sikeston offensively I would say Kyland Gross at QB and Nick Nichols and Chris Word at RBs. Kyland is really quick and elusive while Nick and Chris have pretty good speed and a good amount of strength to burn.
I'm not overly concerned about the o-line. I think they are a bit better than last year and have a stronger group of players behind them than last year. Also, the defense is going to be pretty good which should hopefully make up for any shortcomings in the offense.
Cville looks solid! Should be a great game!!
It may be a year or two away but look for Jackson to come roaring back some time soon. Their new coach did very well at Union and I think is the right guy to get them back to being the team we all used to know.
Not even going there X-coach. Let's leave the past in the past and judge every player on his own merits.
If you think that malden is done for you've got another thing comming. Thers's so many talented players and a player to watch number 71 a complete stud.
On behalf of our beloved Bearcats and their fans, we will forgive you this time, BG! LOL. Should be a great game at Ste. Gen next Friday night for the season opener!
Bleed Green.....I missed you during the off season. hahahah
I'll put up a few video clips tomorrow evening.
What teams are supposed to be in SG?
Park Hills,Desoto and Valle will be at SG
Who will make the SLAP reel from tonight's jamboree in SG?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn8oVrFKn...
I just love how everyone likes to sit back and teams "JUDGE" teams without knowing the full stories.....there are a few surprises in a team you all "wrote" off....will never really know how it has been in the class it is-but that's a different story. just wait -just wait
Haha no trust me that would never happen!! I was just trying to make a point that we do know high school football and that we're not just on here speculating!! And I know myself I mean no harm it's all about having fun and talking football with guys who share the same passion!!
howd the teams look at the farmington jamboree?
I heard Farm surprised a lot of people!! Going to be better then expected!!
I'll go ahead and put that prediction right into the "Wishful Thinking" column next to any team but Caruthersville winning Class 2 District 1 and any SEMO Class 4 team beating Webb City.
You are 100% WRONG....there are several players who work year round on getting stronger, faster, and better. Their current coaches DO CARE and love them as their own. It may only be a beginning-but everything has to start somewhere-and no it's not going to take years-the talent is there NOW.
I was there I was standing on Pville side I saw how they played they gave up 73 points!! SG was good last year but not that good!! And u wanna talk discipline pville had how many kids suspended because of drinking? Try like 7 and most of them were starters so please forgive me if I don't think that that is discipline!! Pville might win 4 games this Year they can't compete in 4A nor with the likes of SG or other established programs!! Pville should just stick to Soccer that's Football in Europe right!!! Haha just playing 4 wins and that's being nice!!!!
Bleed Green,
Perryville should be the least of your worries right now......shouldn't you be trash-talking Dexter?
OH, BURN!!!!!!!!!
:)
Well said!!
Was gonna say something similar Cheese. Good post.
Come on guys...it is our duty as hardcore football fans and rivals to pick at each other in a friendly manner....
I agree Zach but he thinks we are attacking the players personally when we are not. I'm all about some heated debates but saying high school kids get drunk is really something that needs to stay off here. Let's keep it about the game and it's all gravy
Yeah, that kind of stuff is a bit counterproductive.
Haha
There is the hotel by the Casino.. And btw, that sure will be a LONG drive home after a tough loss.
Any predictions on Farmgton at Festus? Festus always seems to play schools tough but never able to get the win. Farmington in a cake walk.
Ya I agree Farm by 24!! My friends son plays for Festus they have a few good players but I think the injury bug has hit them as well!!! Oh and cheese that would be a long drive home! I've made longer though!!
Anyone know how DeSoto will be this year? They lost a big portion of their offense last year via Jared White to graduation.
Not pretty.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxdanauDl...
I really hope they do well Id rather see a Close SG Pville game then what I saw the last few years!! Time will tell for all of us our opinions will change by week 3 that I guarantee!!
Guest,
In an earlier post you mentioned you are not from the area and weren't sure how the classes were done in the midwest, and got all of your information from asking the locals.
I'd say he probably just plays for Perryville and doesn't understand why Semoball isn't following the narrative his coaches are probably selling.
Seen Desoto at the SG jamboree and IMO they didnt look as good as their team last year. And i'm not saying their team last year was great.
You're right sideline and I would say he plays on the right side of the defensive line based on his last post..
Oh How I love football........
Zach I am talking about the 2nd game getween SG and PH!! We stopped the run the second game should of clarified that my bad!! And yes PH did a GREAT job of ball control the first game IMO they should of won the game but we all know why they didn't!!!!!
IMO
BleedGreen, that is the 2nd time I've read about a Dexter football player that moved to Perryville. To my knowledge, that isn't the case however. I will double-check that with my sons. I know we did lose two players to Malden.
Most of them do disappear lol.. I've seen so many over my span at Semoball.
I was reading some quotes from Ferrote about JB he said he thinks there better this year then last!!!!! If that's the case Holy cow there going to be good!! I hope cape is ready!!!
I'm only asking that you give teams a chance without making hurtful statements-
Guest21,
I don't think anyone here is trashing any particular player.
If Perryville cant win week 1 or 2, there will be no W's to be had
Mojo3-
I agree with you 100%...from what I have seen here-the majority of the problem is the community and school board- Coach W has actually been with most of these kids for at least 3 years now- possibly 4 for the seniors (but can't be positive)- 1st year as an assistant.
Cross town team gets too much of the community support for Perryville to ever get the ball rolling, theyre gonna have to have a 7 or 8 win season to get some people on the bandwagon. There was a year when they both made it to the playoffs(Much like Valle and SG this past year) in the mid 2000's. That was a neat atmosphere but Perryville never could sustain anything year to year
SG and Valle have made the playoffs in the same year probably 10 times at least!
11!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey hey there boyes! no meed for name calling on here Buckos. nekerwasben whot just is you rproblem? and just settle downs theree Bleedgeek and do just notjust not get our smartie panties in a wod Bucko.
Dude I can't understand a word you just said!! And it's all good he's passionate I dont have a problem with that! I like a good heated debate and trust me I've been called worse you can ask Zachattack and Mojo that!! It's early the blood has yet to start to boil let a few of our teams start loosing some games then it will get fun haha!!! Oh try downloading one of those spellcheckers never hurts!!'
My belly hurts! were you been bearcat?
Haha BleedGreen you'll get use to bearcat1forall really quick! Funny dude I must say!
Welcome back bearcat1forall from a fellow Dexterite!
I wonder if anyone knows what happen to Daddy? He was all over the other board last year he was a fun one to!! Don't know if you know him cheese!!!!
Was that the guy that had Michael Myers as his thumbnail?
I don't know! Daddy had a pic of that skinny actor as his thumbnail I forget what tv show he played on! Daddy was a Freddy supporter!
He had Michael Myers for awhile too.
Bleed Green is a crazed SG football fanatic and his posts have a tendency to get kinda obnoxious at times. Please forgive him, for his mind is plagued with worry. He is worried how SG is going to consistently stop the run when they play Central this year.
Zach you always know how to make me laugh!! God bless you bro!!!!
I deleted two comments in this thread for cussing. You know who you are. Please stop and be aware that that is not allowed on semoball. I will suspend your account if the problem continue. Surely we can share opinion without vulgarities.
If I missed a comment you think you be deleted, please let me know by hitting the yellow exclamation mark by the comment. You must be logged in to see and use the exclamation point.
That's my bad I said the "s" word I go over my post I must of missed it I'm really sorry will not happen again!! Although you can turn on the TV and here way worse I understand!
Rachel runs a tight ship! I'm glad because things do get out of hand from time to time. I used to get into it with everyone on here haha..
I foresee some interesting conversations in my crystal ball!!! hahaha
Still have his deerstand at my place....
i know just how old diddy is right this now. seens him on fakebook a nd such. facorite song is giddy up go daddy by Redsovine
whats your thoughts about dexters week one, preacherman and xcoach, and xcoach the oldest stevens boy has an attitude problem, the middle boys a good kid dont know about the youngest yet
Tigers2638, I think we have a real shot to beat them. This is a big rivalry game and we haven't played them in two years. I know the team is fired up for it, esp. with it being the first home game. I know they feel like they have something to prove after the bad loss at Ste. Gen. It will be a challenge though as the Mules surprised alot of people (me included) by handily beating Union.
I deleted several posts from this thread to keep it from getting personal about athletes and to keep the thread from being confusing. If I missed something, please let me know by hitting the yellow exclamation point.
My bad preach I didn't catch the post! I don't like when people make it personal! I shouldn't of responded if I didn't know the facts!!
Preacher Man Fan are you gonna make the trip down to Caruthersville this year? If so I would like to meet up with you maybe get something to eat and talk football?
Apology accepted Bleed Green and much appreciated.
Beef, we will definitely be making the trip to Caruthersville for what should be a great game! First we have to deal with Sikeston. But name a good place to eat and a time and we'll plan to meet. Bring Cheesehead with you. I appreciate the invitation.
Hey Preach! I'll get with beef before then and we can iron out the details.
Sounds good Cheese. Looking forward to it!
wow, i just read all these... i'm glad people are talking about me. haha! and YES i did have michael myers as my pic. and Tyler, the creator is not an actor.... and mojo, i hope to be down this weekend. and if you let me, i'll come out and hunt some!
You know you are always welcome around here!
