I saw a thread on a different forum discussing this topic. What does everyone think about tailgating? Me...I LOVE IT! I wish we could tailgate at each home game for Sikeston. Everytime we have done one, it has been HUGE. I know I could tailgate with a few of my peeps, but I enjoy the atmosphere of our tailgating. What does everyone else think?

I've never understood tailgating at all. I've never done it and probably never will.

Dustin:
Tailgating is just a fun activity where you gather with a few hundred (or thousand if you are an MU Tiger fan!) of your friends and enjoy the comradery of getting ready to cheer on your team. There are many types of tailgating, which you will see all those at most major universities around the nation. I am with you, Rocket, some tasteful high school tailgating would be a welcome sight here in SEMO area. Great for school spirit and getting to know some new people.

When Caruthersville or Hayti tailgates they always get large numbers. As far as tailgating professional events, I love it. Great atmosphere.

Well Dustin that may be one reason you don't understand it. If you have never done it then you really wouldn't know what it's about! It's more than just grilling and eating. Dexter Native said it all! Give it a try Dustin, you may just like it!

Very well said, Dexter Native. Matt and Cheese...there is nothing better than getting together with a big group of people for the same cause.
All of the political, social, and economic "labels" are thrown out and everyone just has a blast supporting the team of your choice! I believe it builds tremendous town and school spirit. At least on the high school level....
Dustin...if we are fortunate to make a run in the playoffs and have a tailgate, I would like to officially invite you to the pre-game festivities.

Raised on tailgating at Ole Miss in the Grove, the Mecca of college tailgating. Wish Sikeston would do it bigger than they do.

Went to a Chiefs game several years back. Never seen anything like it in terms of tailgating atmosphere before the game and game atmosphere. Completely insane crowd. Beats to death any sports atmosphere I've ever attended, college (Alabama, Notre Dame, Mizzou for example) or pro.

excitement, color, rivalries, discussed over good food, good friends, alums, friends you haven't met yet. entertaining the visiting crowd prior to the game when they walk past, welcoming them to Columbia, Oxford, where ever you may be.......offering them a taste of your tailgate food, perhaps a brief chat about their thoughts , where are yall from ? is commonplace.
If you like football....I mean REALLY like football...a tailgate can be one of the most incredible preambles, to any game.
I highly recommend it.

Agreed, hunt. Like I said earlier, I wish there were more time for tailgating at the Dogs' games. It seems, to me anyway, to make the games more enjoyable and builds such comraderie between the fans. I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed the tailgating at the previous games.

Man sideline---Couldn't agree more..I go to Ole Miss every year. Most times don't even go to the game. Just sit in the grove and watch game on the Big screen tvs.. Awesome experience plus you have the southern belles!! I say we have a semoball tent down there this year and all meet each other.

Let's just say this. Bluebird fall day.
Smell of charcoal in the air, leaves falling,
a morning paper sports page. A hot cup of coffee
as the early crowd filters in around the stadium.
In the distance....a Hotty Toddy, or a MIZ ZOU,
cheer echoes.......scattered cheers, anticipation,
excitement, color, rivalries, discussed over good food, good friends, alums, friends you haven't met yet. entertaining the visiting crowd prior to the game when they walk past, welcoming them to Columbia, Oxford, where ever you may be.......offering them a taste of your tailgate food, perhaps a brief chat about their thoughts , where are yall from ? is commonplace.
