C'ville 6 - Mt. View 34 Caruthersville can't get anything going on the ground and Mt. View is running all over them the only plus side to C'ville tonight is 1 kick off return by Monroe
The Lineman is the big difference in this game as well as depth.. Cville not up to MVL level yet.. They will learn from this and play inspired football the rest of the season..

That's where the inexperience comes in.. Our secondary are first year starters.. There will be a learning curve.. They sure picked a good team to start teh season off with

I hate to say it but it had nothing to do with the secondary, Mt. View just blocked well down field and when we did get a hand on them they were to powerful to bring down. Caruthersville is no where near the team they were last year and no improvements can be done without the proper coaching. These guys are doing the same 3 plays a game and relying on 1 man to do all of the damage. We passed the ball effectively last night but we did not do it enough, we tried to give Monroe the ball while we were in the spread and they were stacked up just like Maplewood was last year.
We are undersized on a few O-line positions, we lack any kind of depth and I think all of our line was banged up pretty bad last night. Oh and our center snaps it low 70% of the time to a qb that is 6'4 so he was scooping alot out off the ground.

I wouldn't write Caruthersville off just yet. Will they compete for a state title? Probably not. But they will be one of the better teams in Semo. You have to think, they are replacing a talented group of linemen, and replacing all of the secondary from last year. All that inexperience leads to poor tackling, not knowing how to read the offense. Can't blame it all on coaching. There are teams out there who are just better and MVL was that team. It's easy to put it all on them but when your young and inexperienced like the Tigers are, things like this will happen against great teams.
I agree though, we need to think about some different formations based off our personnel, because we don't have the players to run shotgun all the time. The times we ran different formations in this game, we gain good yardage. Don't give up on them just yet, there will be no team on our schedule this year like MVL. Other than that second quarter where we were outscored 28-0, we played with them pretty well.. The second half was a different game, still outplayed us, but not near as bad. This team will respond, and Malden better get ready, this team will come to play Friday..

I'd like to add, this line for Caruthersville sure is missing Tyler Fullhart right now. Big loss for us.

What happened to Tyler?

He was the linemen coach for Caruthersville the last few years. He now coaches for Kennett..

I believe this loss will light a fire under the Tigers because they now have a taste of the competition that they will have to face come playoff time. The Tigers will learn that they have to tackle through their target and wrap him up at the same time. I'm sure their coach's have already pointed that out to them. The same holds true for the blocking up front they have to block through their man not play patty cake with them. The big thing is their coach has to realize that Darrell is a different type of runner then Elbe was and he needs to adjust his offence accordingly also one running back can't carry the whole team you have to spread it around and mix in the pass to keep the defense guessing. He also needs to change his sets show the defense a different look so they have to wonder and think a little. The way he does now you pretty much know what is coming. I am by far no expert but what I have stated above is very easy for anyone to see.

I would agree with you linebacker on most of it. Most of that defense are first year starters so they will learn to tackle better as the season goes on.
As far as coaching goes, Morgan does a great job with this team. I agree about Fonda and Monroe having two different running styles and also agree about changing up the formations a little. The shotgun works pretty good, IF, you have the right team for it. I'm not saying we can't run out of shotgun, but throw in a few more formations as well.
I'm not qualified enough to tell Coach Morgan how to coach his team, just offering my opinion on what I think would work. This loss will open these boys eyes and I can promise you, they will come out Friday night ready to play inspired football. Malden better bring their A game. Great post linebacker!
