Outstanding article. But one question, at what point was Ealy a "scrawny 208 pounds?" The dude was 225 or 230 when he graduated high school and already had an NFL body. I'm sure the writer just wrote what was told to him, but that just isn't accurate. He was a beast. Scrawny was NEVER a word I would have used for him.....perhaps when he was in 7th or 8th grade, but not when he was a senior.

Agreed semohoops, I remember seeing how cut his arms were when he was in high school... well over 208 and definitly not scrawny

Big ups to Papa Willie. Need more of him amongst our young men.

He obviously made the right move for Kony. I always wondered what high school he would have attended in St. Louis had he not moved down here. Then I wondered if he would have chosen basketball as his college sport if he stayed at Portageville. That was what he was more known for in his younger days.

I'm not certain the link will work, but here is an interview Kony did with Gabe Dearmond of Powermizzou.com in which he says he arrived on campus his freshmen year weighing 205 and that he's now up to 270. http://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?C...

Not really that big of a deal how big he was, but he was bigger than 205 in high school. He was quite a physically impressive looking high school athlete, to say the least. This quote, taken from the Standard-Democrat would have back up my claims:
To some people, Kony Ealy was lucky enough to win the genetic lottery.
His sheer size and strength for a high school student rivals collegiate players as his 6-5, 230-pound frame towers among the rest. It's a big reason for his success at New Madrid County Central High School.

Michael Porter was closer to 205 when he graduated. Ealy was significantly thicker than he was.
You're right, it doesn't matter. But I just find it funny how stories get embellished over the years. The guy looked like Jevon Kearse coming out of high school, not some scrawny Manute Bol.

His rivals profile, although I understand sometimes numbers get inflated, but in this case they got it right.
Kony Ealy

Kony was in the 220's in high school. I'm 100% sure of that. and he is 265 now.

More like the upper 220's. Like I said, far from "scrawny."

if kony was scrawny in HS, then i was Ethiopian-like at 5'9" 180.

To but this to rest about Kony's weight, when he arrived on campus at Mizzou he was weighing around 210. He played his senior year of football around 230, then came basketball and he lost some weight and played around 220. The one thing a lot of people don't know or forget about is he ran track his senior year also and continued to lose weight throughout track season so when he arrived on campus that summer he was around 210. Bottom line is the kid has worked extremely hard and we are all happy to see him doing so well.
