I know its tough to read, but its tough to format. Apologies!

Bill, were these on the MSHSAA site or did you do the math yourself? Not saying you're wrong because they are all seeming right by my math. I'm just curious if MSHSAA had posted it on the site because I couldn't find it.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Aug 27, 2012, at 10:16 AM
MSHSAA has it posted on their website, sideline. I saw a thread on another site that had a link to it.

I had trouble finding it, but what you do is go to your school on mshsaa's website, then pick football itll bring up your schedule and if you look under that itll say 'Preview district rankings' or something to that nature. And i did a nice copy and past job from there!
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Mon, Aug 27, 2012, at 10:22 AM
Of course MSHSAA can't just put a "District Standings" link on their 11-man football page. Thanks guys.

So based on this St Vincent should be the Semoball #1 team (they got the most points!) It's still early and I really don't think these ranking will mean much until about week 4. Good to know where to find them however.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Mon, Aug 27, 2012, at 10:32 AM
haha the reason its easier for small schools is because they can accumulate more points for playing up and compete. Where as teams like sikeston cape jackson, to play up a class is (in most cases) a very large step
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Mon, Aug 27, 2012, at 10:34 AM
Agreed mojo, it is fun to just see how your team is doing and to keep up with the competition. Obviously it needs enough data to be actually accurate on the skill levels of the teams. Also, looking at Class 2 District 1, man is there a steep, steep dropoff after Caruthersville. I'd say the winner of Malden-Charleston can go ahead and be considered the two seed.

As far as St Vincent, I think they got lucky in finding a weak Sumner team to play. Remember, the play-up-class bonus and the strength of schedule points are a dynamic calculation that changes as the season progresses. If STV is playing a class 1 team next week, then their play up bonus would get cut in half. Just from the math the two biggest contributors to a school's final seeding score will be their win/loss record and the point differentials.

Cystal City, Valle, and St. Vincent really benefit in playing in a conference of mostly class two teams, I know Valle plays up 2 classes this week and again against NMCC, CC plays 2 classes up with lift for life. And SV plays lift for life as well. So as far as the bonus points go week in and week out the JCC teams out of that district are favored. But like you said if you win, you can do bad. Just win baby.
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Mon, Aug 27, 2012, at 12:48 PM
I don't think any of you bigger schools would want a similar schedule to SV. They play two class 3A teams, 5 2A teams, the class one state champ (Valle) and Crystal City. I don't see excuses when a bigger school plays down and wins, but when a small school plays up and wins its because the bigger schools program is down.

Not necessarily BB. I've always said the really good small schools can match the good big schools any day except for depth.

St Vincent plays a very respectable schedule for a class 1 team but I wouldn't go as far as to say a bigger school wouldnt want there schedule, though. Now in the past 10 years, I know non conference they've played and competed with Caruthersville, Park Hills, Potosi, and Maplewood(were in conference at the time). That's all I know off the noggin.
