Week 2 - Weather?
Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 11:35 AM:

Anyone hear of any contingencies with the hurricane remnants predicted to be over our area Friday afternoon and evening? Weather reports are saying heavy rain and wind to 30 mph. I'd be thinking of postponing games to Saturday with a report like that.

Replies

I agree! Hopefully it weakens a lot before it makes it to the boot.

I've heard that a few schools have potentially discussed playing Thursday night.

-- Posted by gianthook on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 12:21 PM

I'm hoping it dosnt come in til sat! But I'm with ya mojo although I believe it would benefit a bigger SG team against a much smaller Valle team!! It will be hard for Valle to move those Bulls in the mud!!!! But i do believe it will be better to cancel if that's the forecast!!

Ahh, there is nothing wrong with a little wind and a rain. I will bring you back to a game that Caruthersville had back in 2003 State Quarterfinal game against Lutheran. There are some clips in this video from that game, when we were leaving that game there were actually tornado sirens going off in the background.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2OVWL3yU...

Its the highlights with all the mud and rain, opposite team had bright yellow helmets on. They are mixed throughout the video but you can get a image of how deep that field was with rain and mud, I remember Jimmy Jackson's feet not being able to be seen on some parts of that field, it was crazy but was fun to watch.

I'll be sure to give you all a warning jump on how the weather is.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 2:06 PM

I've never had the privilege of covering a football game / taking photos in the rain since I have been sports editor. Perhaps I'll get my chance this Friday!

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 2:10 PM

Beef I remember that Day! It poured all day! SG played St Charles Duchense thank GOD we had the GREATEST high School football player I've ever seen in Adam Schwent!! SG ran a b-52 tailback throw back down the left side line and Schwent caught it in the pouring rain and took it 60 yds for game winning TD!!! His jersey was Dark brown not white!!!!

I watched a game in a snowstorm in 1999. I think the kids were having a ball playing in it! Felt like being at Lambeau Field in December.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 3:10 PM

mojo remember that freddy/charleston game a few years ago???? it looked like one of them good ole, hog wallers.

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 7:04 PM

Yep, and I think that was the same year they had Homecoming and the big storm rolled in just as all the pre-game stuff was done and they played on Saturday. Don't remember the team we played then....

-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 8:04 PM

Back on subject, looked at the forecast maps, now saying the low center for Isaac will be in north-central Arkansas at 1pm Friday and right over St. Louis 1pm on Saturday. Looks like it'll be wet all day Friday and Saturday.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 8:22 PM

wow, what a great highlight package of jimmy's senior year. what a talent he was. there have been many, many great backs in the history of c'ville football but he has to be the best. by the way, what an awesome looking white hat in some of those highlights!

-- Posted by myershallred on Tue, Aug 28, 2012, at 9:53 PM

Yes! I think Jimmy was the best back Cville has had up to this point, and that is saying something. You have backs like Kendrickus Reed, Adam Cecil, Elbie Fonda, Vohland Fonda. A very impressive list of names. I think Jimmy was all of them rolled into one. The Mud Bowl of 03 was definitely one to remember. I remember me and beef didn't have an umbrella for that game, so you know we were pretty soaked and we had to ride 3 hours back home lol.

Just watched the updated weather! There saying the storm is going further west then expected then radar showed no rain over SEMO at 6 pm Friday and maybe a few light showers by 10! And a few showers sat! Maybe a few tenths at best both days! That's if it's stays to the west like it shows!!

I guess that's good for football, bleed green, but we really needed some wet stuff this weekend in our region.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Wed, Aug 29, 2012, at 12:31 PM

Tell me about it my food plots look like GARBAGE!!!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Aug 29, 2012, at 2:09 PM

Saw pretty much the same. Some models still showing up to 3" of rain by Sunday over most of our area except the far bootheel, should stay dry down there.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Aug 29, 2012, at 2:16 PM

We all know how accurate the weather man has been in the bootheel predicting rain so don't bet on what they say two days ahead.

-- Posted by lastride67 on Wed, Aug 29, 2012, at 3:20 PM

mojo that was Scott City. then they cried about having to come back up the next day. i feel like they got lucky cause the freddy boys were all kinds of fired up. and we need this rain down here in Springfield too. your big field needs some rain on it too i bet. next time i'm down i'll bring some batteries for that camera i left there.

Just saw that the Hillsboro-Freddy game has been moved to 1 PM but didn't see a date. Shall I assume Saturday?

-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 11:55 AM

I just read on another board, where the Hillsboro-Freddy game is going to be played tomorrow still @ 1 pm. Both schools are not in session on Friday. Hope this helps Mojo.

-- Posted by Gus_Belenski on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 12:28 PM

Yep, heard it on radio. Calling in sick tomorrow.....

-- Posted by mojo3 on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 12:38 PM

Looks like it's better to get games in early, heavy stuff now most likely will linger over the area until Sunday. Showing up to 6" north of a Bluff to Cape line and tapering to .25" down in the extreme bootheel. Disruptive to football, but I glad for the rain!

-- Posted by mojo3 on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 12:41 PM

I just heard that SG and Valle are in talks about moving the game!! Lady at the high school confirmed but no def answer yet!!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 1:16 PM

Suntimes news says Valle Ste Gen game has been changed to 5:30 Friday start time. SV-Scott City moved to Friday 6:00 start.

-- Posted by buyer beware on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 1:57 PM

Yes it's true SG Valle game moved to 5:30!! And it's still at Valle field!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 2:21 PM

SV vs Scott City game moved up to 6:00 P.M. at SV.

-- Posted by nature boy on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 2:26 PM

Sounds like some muddy games around the SEMO area...An abundance of turnovers could lead to some upsets! Time to get out the umbrella that I haven't used all summer!

-- Posted by blackNgold007 on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 4:01 PM

These are the games that could cost a team come dist time! I believe the team that's the biggest and strongest and that runs the ball will win!! Oh wait that describes my dragons!! Valle is in serious trouble!!!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Aug 30, 2012, at 4:27 PM

Do they still play if under a tornado watch?

-- Posted by TFA on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 2:17 PM

I would bet on it TFA.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 2:28 PM

Ok well doubt if I go to the game tonight I'm a big chicken when it comes to a watch I wouldn't be able to watch the game

-- Posted by TFA on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 2:45 PM

I completely understand how you feel TFA.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 3:08 PM

We're having a monsoon in Dexter right now! No idea what that means for the game tonight other than it'll be a slogfest in the mud!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 4:58 PM

Now I wished I would of went to New Madrid because our rain wasn't enough to worry about in Sikeston so far.

-- Posted by TFA on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 5:43 PM

The central-SCW could be interesting on the slick turf.

-- Posted by CapeAlum on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 5:55 PM

Glad I didn't go just heard the score

-- Posted by TFA on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 6:17 PM

6-0 sikeston here in New Madrid at halftime

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 6:39 PM

14-6 Valle leads Ste Gen at halftime

-- Posted by blackNgold007 on Fri, Aug 31, 2012, at 7:03 PM

SG is playing really bad!! The difference in this game is Valle is throwing the ball down field and were not!! Kiddos to Judd!!! SG has 8 penalties to Valle 2!!
