Thoughts On Portageville Vrs. Malden
Posted by Semopost13 on Wed, Sep 5, 2012, at 1:52 PM:

I think that Portageville will win by a landslide I just don't see anyone getting past Portagevilles defense and stopping there powerful offense

This is a very interesting game imo. Malden is better than what most people think. If McCoy stays in the game agaisnt Caruthersville, they probably would have scored more than 6. He is a big time play maker. Don't know much about Pville, haven't seen them play this year.

So you're predicting an undefeated regular season this year? I'll assume this also means you expect to get by Valle, Thayer, Hayti, Chaffee, etc. in the playoffs on the way to a district title. Duly noted.

I think this will be Portagevilles first true test of the season. If McCoy is healthy I say Malden by 2 TD's. If he is out this game the Bulldogs will win in a close one.

I like Portageville in this one. The Dawgs have been very impressive in their first two wins on both sides of the ball. They really seem to have bought into their new coach's system and are playing with a lot of confidence. With McCoy questionable and such a young offensive line (3 sophomore starters), I just don't see Malden having enough to win this one.

Don't try to get on my case sideline starter before when Portageville beat st Pias you said well we will see how they do Vrs kennett we beat kennett now u talkin bout Malden I don't wanna hear that all year bro

#get a life

Depth chart may decide this one. Portageville has at least 5 running backs that can pound the yards, and two that can break big runs (coast to coast).

The passing game will be used lightly, as needed.

Coaches dream.

I don't discount Malden, (injury aside) they are a hard hitting team and they always bring it, but..

this one goes to Portageville. They've been paying their dues for the past few years and the new coach has the Bulldogs (at home)fired up.

Dawgs by 12.

I haven't said anything about Portageville. I don't really get overly concerned about them. But if you want to play the chip on my shoulder game because Sideline doesn't just believe the hype of every team that starts 2-0, be my guest.

There's a saying I've heard about pots and kettles that I think is highly appropriate for this situation but it may go a slight bit over somebody's head.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Sep 5, 2012, at 11:33 PM

Prolly think that was some kind of drug reference .

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 12:45 AM

This game could be an instant classic. My official prediction: "TOO CLOSE TO CALL."

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 1:46 AM

I understand being excited for you team, esp since they have been down the last few years. I know far to well how that feels being a Caruthersville fan. You need to know not everyone feels the same way as you do about your team. Just becuase they don't pick them to win, or is not as sold on them yet as you are, that doesn't mean you should bash their opinion, or tell them not to post.

Some guys on here have a great feel of football in Semo. I know Beef,Sideline, and Preach all know Semo football pretty well and they usually are spot on, on their assessment of certain teams. On this site, you have to learn to deal with people who has a different view on your team. Learn to keep an open mind. I was the same way you were when I first got on this site years ago. I would get ****** if you even mentioned Cville in a bad tone but I've learned to keep an open mind. Just relax a little and have fun on here, no need in making enemies just because someone doesn't agree with you! You could be missing out on meeting some cool dudes.

Dustin Ward- Instant Classic? The same kind of instant classic you said SCC vs Risco would be last year? LOL.. Sorry man, I had to pick on ya for that one.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 8:07 AM

I expect a close game throughout. I'll take Malden 26-20.

-- Posted by Matt Duckworth on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 8:14 AM

I agree Matt. It will be a close game.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 8:17 AM

Portageville is looking strong on both sides of the ball this year. Although McCoy is a very talented running back I think he will have his hands full with defense of the bulldogs. For one The bulldogs line is bigger than maldens and if he does manage to get past the line then portageville has a strong seondary. I believe it will be a good game, but Portageville will come out victorious.

-- Posted by ReporterSteve on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 8:46 AM

Well said, Cheesehead, and good advice for us all. And thanks for the love.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 9:49 AM

I'm going to say that it is going to be pretty close. I see Malden passing quiet a bit during this game. The couple times that I have personally seen Portageville struggle this year is dealing with the pass. They gave up a big pass play to Kennett last week, and when they faced St.Pius the Lancers had most of there offensive success when they passed. As long as Pville's d-line can keep pressure on Malden's QB Portageville will win handily. But if they give the QB time to pass it could be a really close game.

-- Posted by paulbd on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 10:14 AM

@sideline Depending on how Portageville does in this game I think they can go undefeated in the regular season, and I think they will make some noise in the playoffs. Most likely they will get knocked out by Valle or Thayer when they meet in the district finals or semi-finals.

-- Posted by paulbd on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 10:19 AM

why is everyone predicting a Malden victory? first of all, portageville has WAY more athletes.. Walker, Allen.. just to name a few. the only true athlete malden seems to have is mccoy, and not to mention their QB is a freshman and while he may be good.. in a few years.. he's just not mature enough to play against older competitors. portageville defensive line is very good, and their offense is not to be over looked. they've started off 2-0 for the first time in a long time, and let's not forget that they beat Kennett. (something they haven't done in 8 years). the boys are HUNGRY for wins, and right now they're getting them. they have the whole school fired up and supporting them. most of which is due to Coach Bullock. this is one of the most important games to him, so you better believe this week he's pushing his boys harder than he ever has. He has completely turned this team around and is not to be underestimated. he's playing a totally different type of game than other coaches around here. not only is he a good coach, but he's motivated those boys but he's motivated the whole school and community. he has already earned conference coach in my opinion because he has turned a team completely around, and has a whole community believing in him and his team.

so why is everyone underestimating the bulldogs?

-- Posted by bluebug on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 4:18 PM

I picked Portageville to win based off one thing. Malden's inability to stop the run. Portageville apparently has many running back's who can run the ball well. And btw, respect is earned, and just winning two games doesn't get you that. Go out and prove everyone wrong. Talking your team up on here doesn't get them the "W" or the respect. Win a few district titles, and a couple playoff games then people will not be afraid to pull the trigger with Portageville. I'm happy for you guys, that program has been needing a good season for a while now. I root for a couple players on the team. I met them during basketball season and they are some nice guys. Looking forward to seeing them again this season. Good Luck Friday!

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 5:43 PM

Cheese, malden does not have an inability to stop the run but like many teams an inability to stop Darrell Monroe lol.

-- Posted by Ramfanman on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 9:04 PM

Haha, that could be true also.. We will have to wait until tomorrow night and find that out.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 9:05 PM

malden sure did stop NMCC's run game. Not that they have much of one haha, but what they did have was stopped.

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 10:29 PM

Just saw the news and there is chance of severe storms tom.eve. and night. So it looks like there might be some delayed games again like last weekend.

-- Posted by country man on Thu, Sep 6, 2012, at 10:37 PM

One thing that is not being mentioned is that it was a 6-6 game for much of the 1st half (Malden vs. C-ville), then went into half 12-6. Malden had four starters out to injury after the half, blow out from there on out. Do not underestimate Malden defense on the run, AS LONG AS injury does not set in, someone mentioned depth earlier, that is the key....health

-- Posted by mobrigade on Fri, Sep 7, 2012, at 11:00 AM

Cheesehead offers very fair analysis of games on here, I generally agree with most of what you have to say.

-- Posted by mobrigade on Fri, Sep 7, 2012, at 11:04 AM

Caruthersville had a couple injuries in the game as well. One season ending injury to add to that. And thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.

Tune in to the game tonight when we beat Malden I will be back on here to talk my stuff!!!
