I was telling cheese at the game that Maplewood is not used to such a physical team as PHC. They start getting wore out and then the bad attitudes take over. Now there is not doubt in my mind that Mt. View is the best team in Class 2.

Dominated and it was 7-0. Total domination

Big win for PHC! Did there QB play Hagan I know he was banged up and didn't know if he could play!!

Zach any personal fouls?
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Fri, Sep 14, 2012, at 9:55 PM
Yeah...I knew that some smarty pants know it all would talk smack. Thanks caniplay.
Park Hills had the ball for the ENTIRE 1st quarter.
14 minutes--->Touchdown.
ONSIDE KICK - Recovered
Ate up half of the 2nd quarter. Maplewood had MAYBE 2-3 possessions in second quarter.
Pretty much the same thing in the second half. Maplewood had VERY FEW possessions. Defense DOMINATED.

Congrats to PHC on such a huge win! Hope Dexter can do the same thing to the Rebels in a few weeks! LOL!

Yeah, their QB played. Got sacked like 20 times.
-- Posted by zachattack on Fri, Sep 14, 2012, at 10:25 PM
Surprisingly, there was only one personal foul.
A MW player slapped a PHC player upside the head...the PHC player responded and they drew offsetting personal fouls.
There were several holding penalties and other silly stuff.

MW was totally worn out.

Rebels got a big win and the Dragons most likely lost another one of their skilled players. PHC will be the favorite in this ball game next week. Lets hope that the injury isn't season ending.PHC has a lot of speed and a heck of a line and they will be a tall task for the Dragons.

Once by 3 plus TD!!! Even though we have 6 or so starters out I wouldn't put that nail in the coffin yet! And I will say this If SG was healthy this game wouldn't even be Close!!

Bleed, I may be totally off here but after watching Dexter and Park hills in the playoffs, I don't think if your D-backs are out that it is going to affect the Defense's ability to stop park Hills, that's going to be up to your front 8 that are in the box. Now offensively is another story but Park Hills just pounds Mitchell between the tackles what seems like 45 times a night. I seen them throw 2 passes.

If they don't pass they will loose! I bet u that they will come out throwing! I know I would especially after watching last nights film!! If SG's DB's can't or don't help with the run it could be a long night for the Dragons.PH is an up and coming force for a number of years. Their classes of athletes in the lower levels is better than anyone in the MAFC with Potosi being a close second.

I know in football there is always that chance of getting hurt but it seems like more kids are getting hurt this year then in the past (Maybe it is just my thinking). But I was wondering if it was the conditioning , or if players are playing more intense this year and hitting harder?
-- Posted by country man on Sat, Sep 15, 2012, at 12:51 PM
Country Man, I don't know if more kids are getting hurt across the board or if we're reporting on it more on semoball, but my impression is the same as yours. It's definitely true in Dexter. Could it have anything to do with schools beefing up their schedules to take advantage of the new playoff format that rewards you for playing up in class?
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Sep 15, 2012, at 1:08 PM
Zach, glad to see the win. Wonder what the MSHSAA boys thought of the game?
-- Posted by mojo3 on Sat, Sep 15, 2012, at 1:10 PM
Country man and Preach in SG case I think it has a lot to do with this darn turf!! I have never seen so many knee problems on one team! Every year since we have had this turf we have lost at least 2 players due to knee injuries! Adam Schwent carries the ball 300 times for 2980 yds on grass but on turf he tore his acl on first play! I can't speak for everyone here in SG but I know a lot of us hate the turf!!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Sat, Sep 15, 2012, at 1:17 PM
i've gotta go with zach on this one and say if you SHUT OUT maplewood, then you dominated them. even if the only score you get is a holding penalty in the endzone for a safety. i would bet PH had the ball for 30-38 minutes. right zach? thats how you beat teams like MWRH and SG. you cant play their type of game. you gotta wear em down!
-- Posted by TheDaddy on Sat, Sep 15, 2012, at 2:01 PM
I think you have a point BG. Our kids hate playing on your turf! We also lost two kids at Ste. Gen to injuries playing on it, one for the season and maybe the other one as well.

There is no need for any central fan to get a big head and start bragging over a big win. SG still makes me friggin nervous no matter what and they are gonna be a handfull

PARK HILLS -- Central football fans received the ultimate crowning point to their Homecoming day as the Rebels football team not only gave the home crowd a win, but they did it over the No. 1 team in Class 2, the Maplewood Blue Devils.
It took 14 minutes for the Rebels to score the winning touchdown, but their defense closed down the potent offense of the Blue Devils for the last 34 minutes to secure a 7-0 victory.
Central, using a solid ground attack, marched the ball 88 yards in 25 plays to keep possession for the entire first quarter. The Rebels converted two fourth downs on the way, and as time expired for the first quarter, they stood at the Blue Devils 13 with a fourth and six.
Hunter Courtois completed an eight yard pass to Daniel Marler and three plays later Derek Mitchell punched it in for the touchdown with Comfort tacking on the extra point.
The ensuing kick-off gave Central fans plenty more to cheer about as Comfort's squib kick bounded off a Blue Devil shin and Mitchell collapsed on the loose ball.
Maplewood's offense did not snap the football until midway in the second quarter. Kahlid Hagens quickly aired the ball out and was successful on his first two throws, but Central's Colton Bryan made the Maplewood quarterback pay for trying too often as he wrapped up Hagens, spun him around and then with a handful of jersey pulled him down for the sack.
Hagens saw Bryan more than he wished as the linebacker sacked Hagens three times in the game and caused several rushed throws. Bryan wasn't alone with the pressure as the Rebels held Hagens to 13-21 completions for only 139 yards and one interception.
Lucas Reid led the Rebels suffocating defense with nine tackles and three assists. Dakota Duck, Comfort and Bryan made three tackles each.
Maplewood's running game wasn't much help to their offense as the No. 1 team only rushed for 48 yards on 20 carries.
Ball control and clock management was the Rebels strength on offense. Going to the air only when needed, the Rebels were able to eat up the clock, and only one snafu nearly destroyed their strategy.
Late in the half, the Rebels were forced to punt, but an errant snap resulted in the punter having to be caught for a huge loss, enabling Maplewood to start from the Central's 24 yard line with 52 seconds left.
A holding penalty in the backfield caused the ball to be reset at the 46, but even after two incomplete passes, Hagens was able to convert a 44 yard pass to Cortlen Brooks at the two-yard line.
The Maplewood fans came alive when running back Alvin Garvin ran the ball in for an apparent touchdown from the 17-yard line, but a yellow flag brought the ball back out on a holding penalty.
Bryan made his second sack to push Maplewood away from the goal line, and Reid Lucas halted a run by Hagens as time ran out on Maplewood's chances.
Both defenses took control of the game from the very start of the third quarter. The two teams fought it out between the 30 yard lines, and the clock kept ticking.
The Blue Devils could not make the big play on third down which they needed often after either Central's defenders made a stop for a loss, or Maplewood was flagged on a penalty.
Into the fourth quarter, the Rebels continued to keep their offense on the ground,. Going three and out several times but punter Jon Comfort gave no chance for a Blue Devil runback as he punted away from the receiver or even out of bounds.
Central's last possession began with six minutes left, and they were able to work the clock down to two minutes with Mitchell and Daniel Marler working the ball between the tackles. Mitchell carried the ball 23 times for 55 yards, and Marler made 13 rushes for 51 yards. Central finished with 127 yards rushing, and quarterback Hunter Courtois was 3-5 passing for 53 yards.
With two minutes left and the ball at their 28, the Blue Devils had one last gasp at trying to score. Trying to rush, forced incomplete passes, and along with dropped passes, they spelled doom for the visitors. Courtois put the nail in the coffin as he hauled in a Maplewood pass for the interception, and then took a knee to end the game on the ensuing snap.
Maplewood 0 0 0 0 - 0
Central 0 7 0 0 - 7
