give me yalls top 5 linemen in the SEMO area
Well when I hear about good linemen I think size and the athletic ability that goes along with it. There are countless times I see 6-4 270-330 lb kids on a roster sheet and then see them sit on the sideline the whole game. Here is what Caruthersville has.
Center- Tyler Quertermous 5-9 220 10th
Gaurds Landon Stricklin 6-3 270 11th
Jay Stricklin 6-4 315 12th
Tackles Joey Middleton 5-9 210 11th
Kenneth Pittman 6'0 160 12th
Backups-Brenton Carter 5-7 200
Blaine Gordon 6-3 250
Malik Monroe 6-2 210 broken arm right now
I know that our tackles are not very big but they pull alot out of the box and lead the way on run blocking schemes. The Stricks also get out and block well down field. Don't let Pittman's size fool you, he is very strong 220 bench I think and was in the state meet last year in the 400 meter relay.
Hands down the best lineman in Semo is the 6'6 270 lb Dan Teranna from SG I'm not being a homer either you watch him play you will see the kid is a freak! I believe he's on pace for 30 sacks right now!
Terrana may be the best DL in Semo, but Caruthersville's Jay Stricklin is the best OL I've seen this year. Gonna be interesting to see those two butt heads in Week 9!
Yeah I would pick Jay Sticklin over anyone in Semo. Kid is big but he is very nimble on his feet and he blocks great downfield. His brother Landon is just as good also.
You really have the Twin Towers in the Stricklin brothers Cheese! Really a testament to the coaches and the OL when Monroe goes down and it doesn't matter who they put back there, he still rushes for a 150 yards!
Not an offensive or defensive tackle but Nick Nichols has been great at defensive end for Sikeston.
Sideline, I thought Nichols was a LB? Nonetheless, he's been a stud for the Bulldogs on defense.
He's been playing defensive end from the games I've been able to see. He's on one side and Chris Word (who is pretty good as well) is on the other traditionally.
I did watch the game he's good but not As good ad Teranna I'm serious man now u go watch Teranna and tell me!
Yes in the first half of that game Nichols was a stud. In the second half Farmington moved 68(can't remember his name) over him. He done a pretty good job of stopping him. But that kid is a stud.
Yeah, #68 was Rider Garrett who is pretty darn good. I believe he is the younger brother of Farmington stud Roper Garrett who was all-state and graduated last year. Nick was still able to get by him some in the second half and being thrown up against him really slowed Garrett down on the defensive side of the ball where he had been shining the rest of the game. I think he got tired.
Oh I agree it took allot out of him. Garrett had allot better game against Sikeston than he did Jackson. But he is a good linemen.
They are way under the radar but Nate Bessenger and Lawton Wilson do one heck of a job blocking for that great portageville rush attack. they are a large reason in why they are very strong on the run
Of course they are under the radar, they play for Portageville. Even with his injury in the first game, nate has shown improvement every week. Have to say they, along with the rest of the line continue to be impressive. Caleb Gooch and Trevor Brands are two others to keep your eye on on defense - but that's another discussion...
A player to watch is OL-DL Trvor Moerhead from Chaffee. 6'3 245 and a sophomore. Has 38 tackles, 6 sacks and 9 tackles for loss so far. Also developing into a fine o- lineman. Plays with a high motor and good football instincts. Should be a force as he develops further.
Is the terrana kid getting recruited by anyone? With that size he should have schools jumping all over him.
Ya I think he's going to SIU!
Many football insiders believe that Kyle Nicholson from SG is the best lineman in the MAFC. He is approx. 5'10 265. His arms are as big as the walnut tree in my back yard. Benches 360 and squats a ton as well. Kid from Farmington is probably pretty good but his weight is around 195. If your talking about blocking straight ahead, thats one thing. If your talking about pulling linemen thats another.I guess my point is we need to keep the 160-180 lb players out of this conversation. Seriously hope that the top 5 lineman in the SEMO area are big enough to pack a punch.
yea you don't see a lot of 180 lb linemen getting talked about for any awards. i loved playing teams with small lines. it's a lot easier to run over a lineman that weighs the same as you than a lineman that weighs 100 lbs more than you
Nate Bessenger from Portageville is a MONSTER. Can't nobody in the Southeast stop him.
yea he is
Can't nobody? Bill wonders if that means he can be stopped
@thedaddy the best lineman in semo last year, arguably, was 180lbs: Ethan Hennes from Farmington. And on a side note, webb city doesn't have just tanks on the line. Smaller lineman can get it done
i know sherlock. i went to freddy. our biggest lineman was 205.
Let me clarify myself. 170-180 lb linemen can pull and be very successful and sometimes drive blocking a 180 lb defensive man, however, if they have to drive block an athletic d-lineman 30 lbs or more in weight, they usually, usually struggle. A 180 lb, quick defensive lineman can be more effective in my opinion....
It honestly doesn't have a ton to do with weight, just talent in high school. In college, it's a different story; size does matter. I have seen 185lb o lineman block 300lbers all the time in high school. It all matters about the talent and getting off the ball.
I too have seen 185 lb great linemen block big kids but I mentioned athletic kids in the range
of 220-23o. I'll take a 185-190 lb stud over a non athletic 300 lber any day of the week. At the upper classes, you can get by with a very good 185 lb kid but common sense says if two people are equal in talent level, the bigger kid is going to win out. Yes, Ive seen big linemen get worn out by little kids but they weren't athletes and winning programs don't play kids just cause they are larger.Hennes was a very good linemen in a spread offense. Gegg was a very good linemen a
few years ago as a undersized linemen but they were quick, agile and athletic not to mention very intellegent, another key ingredient to being a very good linemen.
yea in '07 potosi outweighed freddy's line by an average of 75 lbs. our boys tore them up on both sides of the ball.
Big Daddy, I will never forget that monster center, Fred had a number of years ago, weighed about 260-270 and stood 6'5 ish. He was a stud. Freddy used to run a wedge or gut and just smash people. One of the Best centers I have seen in a long time.Heck Daddy, you might have been in grade school at that time.
i probably was! i'm a youngern. if it gives you any idea of how old i am, i played for gibbs and henson both! haha!
How long ago are you thinking Stretch?
jr. jacob sliger from pb is hands down one of the best defensive linemen i've seen this year. kid has a very high motor and nose for the football and is a monster to try to block.
I've seen Portageville this year and trust me, they have no monsters on the line. They have a good group of lineman but no monsters. I can name 20 lineman better than their best lineman.
mojo3 and big daddy, come up with a namel and I will recognize it. He may well have been the best lineman to play at Fred. I know a lot of people thought king was real good. Probably 10-12 yrs ago. I think I was 8, Ha....
For some reason, mojo and daddy, Schwartz comes to mind, I could be way way off base. He was one of the best lineman to play in the mafc-mineral area conference ever!
I would like to mention Max Winchester from Jackson, He plays Center and is very quick, strong, athletic, and intellegent. He has not given up a sack all year and has done well run blocking against some very good D-linemen. He also makes the reads for the O-line blocking assignments. Last year he was 2nd team all-conference as a Junior. I hope he will get voted to 1st team as a Senior this year.
FREDERICKTOWNS CENTER WAS TRAVIS GOODMAN---"THE GOOB". Was a rodeo guy for a while afterwards. Wrestled bulls.
Goodman graduated around 96 or 97.
Freddy has a very good line during that time. The Goodman kid was a very very nice player. SG had a DE basically running away from the counter trap that year.
I think I can remember the Goodman kid from back then.
If Stretch wants to go WAYBACK, Jamie Griffon on the '83 district champ team along with Jay Moser, both got All State 2nd team honors. Chuck Penuel was a linebacker on that team too, had 124 tackles for the season and was team MVP. Artie Allgier had 176 tackles in '85 on a 1 & 9 Blackcat team, which hurt getting some recognition his way.
1-9 usually means lots of tackles for someone.
yea you're usually playing a WHOLE LOT of defense if you're 1-9.
Ya even I racked up a lot of yards and a few TD's against that Freddy team!! And I remember that goodman fellow he was one if 2 that drilled me while I was sitting on the ground! Darn near took my head off! Hit me so hard I couldn't strap my chin strap
yea then the rest of the year, the back of your jersey had a whole lot of grass stains on it!
Thanks Fredtown boys, I'm sure it was Goodman, he was an absolute tank. When you can recall a player from 12-15 yrs ago as being an absolute stud, he had to be a stud...Most impressive center that I can think of in the area, ever...
Bleed. Just looked at the stats from your senior year. If your name is not Winston or Boyer. Then you didn't score. Shows k Winston had 2 touchdowns and Shane Boyer had the other. It fails to list bleedgreen. So I assume you are the one who scored the two Td's?
It was my junior year 95 game was at Freddy
i don't see any stats from then that list bleed green either... are you sure you played at all?
Look it up dork 1995 my junior year game was at Freddy! I never said anything about my senior year I didn't start RB my senior yr I started olb and was up back in the shotgun cause I had hands like Isac Bruce! Haha not!!
95 and 96 SG were both pretty solid SG teams.
Ya we should of been a lot better! Charelston just had our # we had them beat but we gave up a long TD on kickoff return right after we took the lead! I tell u one thing if this SG had our secondary they would be unstoppable! Vaeth schilli Boyer Winston they were awesome! Vaeth was the 2 hardest hitter I've ever seen he was 5'10 180 and would lay you out! The best I ever saw was Jason Derouche oh my goodness did he ever put the smack down best safety we ever had
Every player you mention always is the best
I would say he is pretty accurate there. All 4 were All state players at some position. And all very good athletes.
it's a miracle! bleed knows what he's talking about!
Bleed I played against a Boyer also in 91,92 season his name was Jason ... He was a good athlete... We beat them pretty good that yr for the distict title, charleston's rich ware had 17car 280plus yds against them but low & behold the next yr, charleston played them first game of the season in ctown & sg put a thumping on us lik 44-6 as Jason Boyer a then jr showed what he was about!! He was quick & fast sg went on to win state that yr & I believe the yr after... I agreed with bleed sg has had sum big bad boys come through that program. I've had the pleasure of being involved in 4district 'ship' games 88 in sg long muddy night sg wins, 89 ctown gets revenge in ctown, 90 sg gets the win in a route, 91 ctown wins in a route. Sg doesn't have many down yrs, if any!! Great program.
I believe 88 was the first year SG made a solid run in the playoffs. There were 3 Boyer brothers all 3 were all state and awesome players. Best charleston squad I watched was victor jameison, larico Coleman, Corey kent, nick Pratt. Fellas like that. And they were big up front. Class 3 in 96 was loaded. Most years they win it with that team
Racin Jason!! Oh ya I remember #21 he was a stud RB but nobody ever talks about his fullback Billy Staffen I believe # 34 I know Jeremy was #33 that was my fullback! But Bill was a Road Grader he and Boyer both Rushed for a 1000 yds in same year! Boy was that team loaded Boyer Staffen Schwent Schweigert Kertz Kirchner Thompson man I think everyone on that team was all state! And I agree that 95-96 Charelston team was good I Remember Nick Pratt he was a Stud!! But we should of beat them we lost to them 3 years in a row by less then 10 points I believe!
i think bleed is getting a little excited. he might have to change his pants if we keep talking about his golden days. lol.
Daddy happens when you got something exciting in your football program. You know like the year Freddy won......well were still waiting for that year but you understand
i'm just giving bleed the same crap he'd be giving me. you can ask him, i love SG. they're my second favorite team. heck i'm even trying to get my foot in the door to get a job at SG. and i don't see freddy winning a state championship anytime soon. maybe in my lifetime if i'm lucky...
Best of luck. SG can always use some hungry motivated coaches/ teachers.
if you know me, you know i'm motivated. i was a film rat in HS and when i played college ball. (even though i never saw playing time :(...)
Best O-Line: Caruthersville. The Stricklin Bros are the real deal, Jay stricklin is pancaking player almost every play and his brother Landon will be as good as him
Worst O-Line: NMCC,they have really struggled this year blocking, but #70 seems to be leading the line, ive seen him make some good blocks this year, dont know his name, but he cant do it all by hiself. He is going to have to get his guys going.
I think it is official, the best OL in southeast missouri or where ever SG is located is Ste.Gen. as they proved it last Friday. Best player in the area goes to Monroe and if he was running behind 'SG's OL, he would be up for the Gatorade Player of the Year Award....Best team in Southeast Missouri, now that is a hard one to call due to a lot of good teams but I think the area is lacking a great team. Still, Valle has the best chance of winning a ship but they are not in the top 5 teams in SE MO.
