Blew a game to Farmington? Really? They looked like they were in major rebuilding mode up until now. Everybody who was calling Poplar Bluff a trap game for Sikeston last week didn't even have this one on their radar. Was it a hangover week? Were you looking ahead to Sikeston? Both? I am really shocked about this score. Can anybody tell me about this collapse by their defense?
Didnt see this game sideline, but I have seen Cape play and they really just arent any good.

Any student-athlete that goes to school, and plays any sport putting in the commitment to time & effort should not be subject to someone calling them "not very good"
Yes, I am an avid CT supporter; but do NOT put down kids or a program
Maybe a better choice of words would .. Looks like Central has some challenges now, but has a good coach & things will turn around!
Geesh-- come on!!! These are 14-18 yr old kids for goodness sake! So they've lost couple games in last 3 minutes-- they'll figure it out!
At least they are competitive & fun to watch--- c

Baseballguy, I think they are a good team which is why I am shocked that they blew this game. I'm in agreement on the argument not to just say a team isn't good but not everybody has that same sense in them. I'm just curious on what happened last night because Farmington really should not have been the type of team to beat Cape.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 7:39 AM
This is not Little League! We shouldn't have to sugarcoat things for these players, and no one was putting down any one player! They were talking about the team. That's what's wrong with this country, everyone wants to find a nicer way to put things as to not hurt someones feelings! Just tell the truth!

Get your politicly correct self on some where with that stlscott is right on this one... he didnt call out a specific player or coach he just said as a team they are not very good which honesty he was being kind because in reality they are pretty bad... and they are the biggest school in the state in 4a football

This is 'Merica land of the stars and bars. Nut up and shut up. Too many kids these days got their feelings hurt these days. My goodness we gotta stop breast feeding these kid by junior year at least. Not everyone is good. Deal.

Cape has talent and speed. They have some big boys on that O line also. I can't see how they lost this game either. I personally think there coach is over rated. Being a stand out player in their day doesn't mean they are automatically a great coach. I think he lacks experience. He may live up to being a good coach. But I don't think he's earned it yet.
-- Posted by oldschoolbballer on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 9:21 AM
I too was surprised by this score Sideline. I didn't think Farmington had a chance in this game, but once again we learned the lesson about any given Friday night. You have to come to play every game.
But to look at things from another perspective, they say baseball is a game of inches, but so is football. Cape Central is literally two plays from being 4-2 instead of 2-4. The same is true of Dexter. We are literally three plays from being 3-3 instead of 1-5. You not only have to come to play every game, but you have to play hard and execute on every play too.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 9:48 AM
Agree but I dont see nothin changing... I could put a definsive gameplan together and hold cape under 300 yards of offence also I know chris martin got hurt yesterday but I'd say he's their most explosive player and you gotta get the guy most likely to break big plays the ball as much as possible ,20+ times... he's under used if you ask me
-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 9:54 AM
Cape's a decent team, take away their jaxon hangover in the 1st qtr and they win by 2tds. Dawgs better be focused next friday! Cape'll be ready im sure. By the way, best half of football all year by far lasnite in 2nd half for dawgs!! Their inconsistency is maddening at times but it is what it is.
-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:04 AM
They were pretty ready a couple years ago when they played twice. Didn't score once 61-0 combined score. I hope they're ready
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:08 AM
Give me a month at ND I could put a team together and beat Cape
-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:08 AM
Haha sonic, all nd has is a buncha skinny peroxide-head soccer players! Good luck with that!!
-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:16 AM
First off, I played under Coach Norman and I can guarantee you he is a very good coach and will only get better. He has gotten some kids to decide to play football at central that had never played before and are now starting as first year players and succeeding. If you're not close enough to the program don't down on a coach.
I didn't go to the game, but I did hear that they had some back ups playing on both side of the ball last night. I don't know any reasoning behind it, that's just what I heard. My guess is they just had a bad game. They lost to a very good Jackson team last week on their own homecoming by a missed extra point and a failed 2 point conversion.

Ha.....I'm not saying stop doing drugs all together Sonic...but you need to cut waaaay back on the dosage......
kiddin......but man , a month ? seems like it takes weeks just to figure out who can do what , and where to plug them in ..............I know alot of old Sikeston guys, who wished like heck ND would have had a football team........just to add to their BUMS repertoire of a JUST LIKE FOOTBALL chant, when they took it to them on the hardwood

Notre Dame could compete they have the athletes the just need to start getting more fat kids. Im confident they could stop Capes Scheme. They run about 40% of the Winged T.
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:30 AM
I stand by what I said... I could put in a more complex offense than what cape runs in two weeks Cause that sorry excuse of a pee-wee league wing t is just awful they seriously run like 1/3 of the offense. Seriously My little league offense was more complex
-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:31 AM

-- Posted by Headhunt on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:39 AM
Let me rephrase my deleted post, see if this works. Haha sonic, nd has lithe athletes better suited for soccer, thus rendering them possibly unsuitable for gridiron action within just a month.
I forgot we musnt hurt anyones feelings here, forgive me!
-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:42 AM
actually they have good athletes I bet you right now that If you put in a spread system at Nd You could find a qb every year and a good one at that. Their athletes are better than jacksons and they beat you... they may not be tougher but seriously that would be the only reason they would struggle to win but scoring 30 or 40 a game is not out of the question. Also It's the sikeston way to dominate Cape in football I dont plan on getting beat by cape very often...
-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 10:50 AM
Cape does have a really predictable offense and has for awhile but they do have athletes more than Sonic is making out. It will not be an easy game by any means for Sikeston on Friday.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 11:06 AM
Oh they have athletes Chris martin is as explosive as anybody in semo

When they announced the score here at Sikeston it was Farmington 20 Cape 0. For them to be beaten by only 3 pts from being that far behind I think they did a really good job and its going to be a tough game Friday for us. Don't ever count any team out u never know what will happen.
-- Posted by TFA on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 12:18 PM
That announced score was obviously wrong....
if you look at the box score in the story..
Cape was actually up at the half...
or the story appears to read that way
-- Posted by Headhunt on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 12:26 PM
if you coach at ND take me as an assistant! i'm getting a minor in coaching! and ND should pay pretty good! haha!
-- Posted by TheDaddy on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 12:35 PM
I don't think they said at half-time. They said that score and we were wondering if we heard it right then another time they said 20-20
-- Posted by TFA on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 12:36 PM
Must of been first qtr when it was Farmington 20 Cape 7. So they had to announce it before Cape scored
-- Posted by TFA on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 12:38 PM
You are extremely ignorant if you honestly think ND's current students could beat Cape in a year, much less a month. I am great friends with tons of ND students and I can guarantee you that even if the athletic ability was as good across the board they wouldn't be able to field a line and line backer core that would compete with Central's second team as a whole. But there's really no point in arguing over something that isn't going to happen for a while if ever. Just so you know I'm not overly one sided here, I was enrolled at ND until I decided that I wanted to play high school football and Brother David wasn't going to allow it to be installed in my 4 years
-- Posted by CapeAlum on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 3:12 PM
i'm just trying to have some fun! but yea ND wouldn't put a great team the first year unless they "recruited" some big ole cape county farm boys to play. you cant find hard hitting defenders from soccer players in my opinion...
-- Posted by TheDaddy on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 3:52 PM
I heard from a very reliable source that Chris Martin suffered a high ankle sprain in the first have of the CT/Farmington game. Apparently he won't be ready to play next Friday vs. Sikeston.
-- Posted by DukePhan on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 3:58 PM
That'd be a huge blow for Cape to miss Martin. Hate that for the kid with how big this rivalry between Cape and Sikeston is becoming at the moment to have to miss it.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Sat, Sep 29, 2012, at 5:02 PM
We'd score 30 maybe give up 50 but I promise we could find a line better than sikeston's coming from a sikeston fan and the only reason we'd struggle stoping cape is there is no way ND could tackle..
