Why doesn't ND have football?
Posted by Kobeyashi on Sun, Sep 30, 2012, at 11:52 PM:

A friend and I were speaking about this after church today, and we shot back and forth many b.s. reasons why not but could not find a legitimate reason! Don't want to hear they don't want the soccer team to suffer, because Jackson, Central, and Sikeston have soccer and football and they seem to fair pretty well against the blue dogs. I know of many donors that have donated money specifically for football, but was used for other things. So what could be the reason? It would only help that school, and would love to see a Friday night game with ND Sikeston, or Central, or Jackson.

What ya think semoballers?

Replies

Kobeyashi, you may not want to hear it, but when I have asked ND parents or other area coaches, the answer I always get is that they don't want the competition with boy's soccer. Don't forget that Jackson, Sikeston, and Cape Central are much bigger schools in terms of enrollment than ND, so they have the student body to offer both football and soccer in the fall. It's the same reason Dexter doesn't offer boy's soccer; they just don't want it to take athletes away from football.

I've been told there is one family who donates a LOT of the money Notre Dame receives who does not want the school to have a football program. Thus, there is no football program.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 12:18 AM

i've heard THE SAME THING from ND parents at a baseball game before. my mother wanted to know why and didn't hesitate to ask. haha!

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 12:43 AM

I think the reason they don't have football is because all that bleached hair wouldn't show with a helmet on they would be taking there helmets of to show people and thus having to sit out a play. HaHa

-- Posted by lastride67 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 2:05 AM

Notre Dame futbol wins state championships.

-- Posted by Captain Awesome on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 7:00 AM

I asked a friend from the Cape the question recently as well. His reply confirms an above post. Mr. Drury of THE DRURY FAMILY has said that if ND starts football, his donations will stop. End of discussion!!

-- Posted by Bogey Man on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 8:44 AM

Ive herd the same thing Bogey Man.The Drury family are one of there largest supporters also.

-- Posted by oldschoolbballer on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 1:11 PM

Football players, and soccer players are completely different though. Different mentalities and I don't think they would lose players, and more kids would obviously come in to ND.

-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 2:04 PM

Fredericktown offers both soccer and football. I guess there are a few kids who are playing soccer could have been playing on the gridiron, but I don't see it hurting the Blackcats that much.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 3:24 PM

I would love to see Notre Dame get Football. I think Friday Night Football would be great for the school and community. With their spirit and support, they could build something great.

-- Posted by fbfanatic on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 5:38 PM

ND doesn't have the students to play football. No offense but there is no way the kids there now could even come close to being able to play football. And the only way they could get football would be to recruit and give full ride scholarships (even more than they already give out)

-- Posted by CTalum5 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 5:48 PM

I politely disagree, CTalum5, I think that they have kids who are willing to work hard to be good at whatever they do. I think that ND loses student to the surrounding public schools because they don't have a football program.

-- Posted by fbfanatic on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:02 PM

Any school with the size and resources of ND could sustain a football program. They would have to go about it like Kelly though to insure the kids would be ready. Play a couple years of a JV schedule and get the kids acclimated to playing football, building muscle, conditioning, etc. I wouldn't throw those kids on the field against Sikeston, Cape, or Jackson right away though. ND lost out on a potential feeder system they could have had for football when Kelly established their program though since all those German Catholics through that area probably would have given the school more consideration. In the end, ND won't have it so long as the Drurys do not want it so the discussion won't really matter.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:11 PM

Sideline, have to agree with you that if the "powers that be" over any type entity don't want something, it won't happen.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 6:50 PM

You can probably count the number of German Catholics in Scott County on one hand. There are, however, many American Catholics in Scott County.

-- Posted by joefrank78 on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 7:48 PM

I was enrolled at ND and switched to Central in July before freshman year because I decided I wanted to play football. I got a call from Brother David and his reasoning was that football would take away from soccer. I do know a couple ND students that play soccer because they want to play a fall sport and their parents won't let them attend Cape or Jackson. Now that isn't the whole reason obviously as others have stated. Yes there is a Drury family member that donates a lot of money to keep the sport out of the school. There is also another Drury family member who is a strong supporter of football along with a very well known cape doctor who has said he would pay for the stadium himself.

I don't know if the school would be able to handle the amount of students it would bring in right now. They are near Max enrollment for the size of their building and bringing football would bring a lot more students. You may only think about the 60-80 players on the freshman-varsity teams but then take into consideration that those families are now sending all of their kids to the school.

-- Posted by CapeAlum on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 9:46 PM

There are many reasons ND doesn't have football and some are reasonable, but most are garbage.

1. ND historically was a school with an enrollment between 250-400 until they moved into the "new" building. We really couldn't support a team until very recently.

2. The Drury reason is kind of funny. The Drury's have absolutely no connection with soccer and could care less if the football takes away from soccer. They are big baseball people and the only thing I can think of is that they think football will take over baseball as the #1 sport at the school. Funny thing though is that those sports obviously different seasons and baseball would actually benefit from a strong football program. Baseball has never been the #1 sport anyway, in terms of interest and attendance; it's been basketball for a long time.

3. 10 years ago, funding a football team would've been no problem. They had many deep-pocketed potential donors that would've done anything for the team. Some of them donated small amounts having been told they were getting football. It all fell though and some of those people felt cheated and quit being boosters. Now, they don't have those same people lining up to fund a team.

4. Another story I've heard is that Darin Scott had a plan in place where everyone would get a piece of the pie, but when he left, that plan was thrown out. I don't know anything specific about this and don't know how true it is.

5. Nobody from ND is crazy enough to think that we could field a football team and compete with the Cape's, Sikeston's, and Jackson's of the world. It would take 10-15 years to even get close to those big schools' levels. However, if ND went the route of JV for a few years and then move to varsity, they would quickly be on the level of the smaller schools like Scott City, Chaffee, etc.

6. I have faith that ND will eventually get football. There will be a large administration turnover over the next 5-7 years and with new people coming in, so will new ways of thinking.

You won't find a bigger proponent of football at Notre Dame than me. It sucks not being able to do go to the game on Friday night, and it sucks not having everything else that comes with football. But once upon a time ago, sometime in the early 80's, the thought of ND fielding a soccer team was crazy. It would take away from basketball and baseball and our school just wasn't ready for another sport. Less than 30 years later, we have won 3 soccer state titles. It will happen and I hope it is sooner than later.

-- Posted by V,B on Mon, Oct 1, 2012, at 11:59 PM

I've heard the "Drury reason" bantered around for years. It's hard for me to believe that one person can keep football from happening at ND, but maybe they can. I think it has to do more with $$ than anything. Football is very expensive to have.

-- Posted by Rocket689 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 8:35 AM

The reason is and the only reason is MONEY! Discussion over!

-- Posted by jaxindians2010 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:30 AM

money most certainly not the reason. They had way more than enough money pledged for football a decade ago. Discussion continue!

As for the Drury reason, it's more of a land issue than anything else. They don't want anything to take away from baseball and the baseball stadium.

-- Posted by V,B on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:40 AM

Just take all that money and up the recruiting budget for baseball and basketball. Problem solved. Is soccer that game you have your kids play on Saturday mornings when there about 4 and 5 years old until they can play a real sport?

-- Posted by caniplay on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 11:25 AM

Small school?? Are you kidding me?? Lots of schools smaller than ND play football, and don't have the advantage of selecting the cream of the crop from the area. Could they be afraid of adding students, moving up in district class size, and having to play the big boys in sports instead of staying down in district class size so they can win titles against small rural towns while hand picking athletes from an area with a population of 75,000. Poor, poor, pitiful Notre Dame.

-- Posted by Bogey Man on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 12:25 PM

Yes, clearly they don't want to add students since the school grows every year.

Who are these small, rural schools they're beating for titles?

-- Posted by Captain Awesome on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 12:42 PM

Small rural towns? So when has Sikeston, Cape Central, and teams like that become small and poor little teams? get a clue Bogey man

-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 1:00 PM

You're right, caniplay. That's why some of the best athletes in the entire world play soccer/futbol. It is, after all, the most popular sport in the world. There really isn't a close 2nd.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 1:30 PM

Oh no someone offended the shin kickers! Can't we all just get a long?? Just kidding yah-yah, soccer has it's place too.

-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 2:33 PM

It's more like I was a bit annoyed at blatant ignorance.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 3:10 PM

You all can say what you want but the FACT is that Notre Dame does not have a football team is because Mr. Drury said he would pull his funding if they ever did so get a team.

-- Posted by footballfan29 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 3:36 PM

Just think about the shiny new football stadium ND would get if they finally got football.

-- Posted by Backyard ball on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 3:43 PM

2 of nd state titles came when they were in lowest class. The competion was average at best. If they actually had the guts to add more students to go up a class, the stlouis teams would drub them, no more state titles.

-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 5:17 PM

it would be the cowboys stadium of HS football!

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 5:20 PM

@cirithungol17

If they had the guts?

Its not like they can just add 200 more kids in one year to move up a class. It is a school first not an athletic machine. they already play in a high division in most sports. Also some of the schools they go up against have almost twice as many students

-- Posted by Backyard ball on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 5:48 PM

Yah ur probly right, my bad. Nd need to get pigskin though, if kelly took the leap so can bluedawgz!

-- Posted by cirithungol17 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 6:06 PM

It's funny how a lot of these comments make Cape sound like some big power house. They've had one good season in the past 10 years.

-- Posted by grizzfan93 on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 6:17 PM

I think its odd that now there is all of this discussion about football at ND now that Kelly has it. Since, historically, ND has recruited alot of its students from Benton, New Hamburg and Kelso; maybe Kelly finally got fed up. Could it be that now these kids would consider Kelly instead of ND because of football? I wonder?

-- Posted by huganut on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 7:11 PM

yah-yah its so popluar that it gets how much primetime action on TV? 2nd most popluar sport yet football, baseball, golf, womens golf and even Nascar get primetime TV, but where is soccer. Lets be honest it sucks so nobody would watch. And by whos account makes a soccer player some of the best athletes in the world? Because they can kick and have endurance? Wow everyone can kick and you can build some sort of endurance to run around a little bit. Soccer is a joke of a sport and thats a FACT!!

-- Posted by caniplay on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 7:13 PM

bolt is the best athlete in the world and he doesn't play soccer. soccer is the most popular sport because you can use a severed head or a head of lettuce as a ball.

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 8:21 PM

I'll take Calvin Johnson over bolt. He's bigger stronger jumps higher, but I get your point

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 8:34 PM

Nice semoball. And I thought this would be an ignorance free discussion. It was interesting while it lasted

-- Posted by V,B on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 8:42 PM

Now you see why I disappear from a lot of discussions unless I'm feeling snarky.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 8:53 PM

You have zero reading comprehension. It is the most popular sport in the WORLD. I never said most popular in the USA. It is also the biggest money-making sport in the world. If you don't believe me, look at the worldwide popularity and cash flow teams such as Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid bring. It may not be in primetime here in America, but it is in essentially every other country. I'm not really sure why I'm reasoning with certain people, but oh well. And, to say Bolt is the best athlete tells me your misconstrued definition of athlete. Apparently, all you have to do is run fast? The best athletes in the world aren't only fast, but they are very well coordinated and are scholars in their sports of choice.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:07 PM

I'm just saying that soccer being the worlds most popular sport is totally irreverent in this conversation...

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:29 PM

^

Agree even though I don't care much for soccer.

-- Posted by Backyard ball on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:32 PM

Irreverant? Maybe you mean irrelevant. Caniplay's post at 11:25 made it relevant.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:32 PM

autocorrect...I've read the comment and I still have found no use for your's... but seriously has anybody ever heard a soccer fan while defending his sport not say "it's the most popular sport in the world"? Well I live in good ole 'merica and watching guys run around for hours of time getting fouls called every 30 seconds from a solid bump at best and rarely scoring isn't appealing to me... The sport is cross-country with a ball...I honestly like any old fashion merican dont care about the world as a whole, strictly merica and merican sports. I'll take a college football spring game over the world cup final is basically my whole point. So in conclusion of this mini novel All non commies hate soccer and more importantly every country that is good at it.

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 9:53 PM

so you're telling me that if i know a lot about soccer, and have good hand eye coordination, and have some stamina, that i am a world class athlete? i guess bolt is uncoordinated? not a track scholar? bolt could play any sport he wanted to. he's a freak athlete. you don't have to be a football scholar to be an athlete. look at michael orr. he didn't know a thing about football when he started playing and he was a top notch athlete.

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:20 PM

Apparently, you've been hanging out with bearcat1forall. Anyways, I don't expect you to comprehend the game of soccer considering you can't even comprehend the posts of a small forum. I personally shattered my shin playing soccer in a collision and the contact was strong enough to break both bones all the way through and it was through the shin guard as well. And, the kicker on your team last year was bigger, stronger, faster, and tougher than you.

I respect most other sports and what it takes to play them. I can't make you do the same, but maybe you should learn facts about your own sport before you mouth off about another one. Here's one for you: the football is actually in play for a total of 11 minutes in the average NFL game. Yes, 11 minutes of the ball being in play over the course of 3+ hours.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:26 PM

first off, rude... secondly I dont appreciate you're snarky tone... c I was honerable mention second team all distict and he was all-state so it's not really an even playing field here how about I compare him to lebrone james he played football... and also I dont like the nfl I'm more of a college fan myself so find me that stat and I will be impressed

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:34 PM

oh and in that 3+ hours there is always a winner and a loser

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:35 PM

Are you saying football is less entertaining than futbol?

-- Posted by DaleDoback on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:39 PM

I never said Bolt wasn't a world class athlete. You said he was the best athlete in the world. My thought was that you were saying the fastest man is automatically the best athlete. Only God knows who the actual best athlete in the world is. I doubt the best athlete in the world is a track athlete. Also, the best soccer players in the world are no doubt world class athletes. My vote is for Lebron James as far as best athlete in the world is concerned - size, coordination, agility, vertical, strength, understanding, etc. are all top notch.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:40 PM

It's all opinion, Dale. I enjoy both forms of football, personally.

Sonic, there is no snarky tone. You come out and completely bash something I'm passionate about and expect me to just lay down and let it fly - that's not what a "Merican", as you coined it, does.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:44 PM

To get back on topic, lets all hope ND doesnt get football. They already think theyre better than everyone else in every sport they do play, including fruitcake soccer. The one thing all us poor, ignorant, trashy public school folk still have that ND doesnt, is football.

-- Posted by DaleDoback on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:46 PM

Well maybe you shouldn't like stupid things...

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:48 PM

Way to stay classy, Dale. You're another one in the long line of people who don't understand a game or have a clue of what it takes to play it at a high level, so you just bash it and use words like 'fruitcake'.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:49 PM

I never said your football was stupid. I said quite the opposite - I respect it and enjoy watching it. You bashed my sport and I came back with a fact.

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:51 PM

Haha I just said it as a joke cuz it got you so pumped up. I personally could care less about soccer but I respect it because I know its hard as hell to play, I get to breathing hard walking from the couch to the fridge to get another beer.

-- Posted by DaleDoback on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 10:55 PM

My fault, Dale. Hahaha, I took that bait and ran with it.

I will personally flag any and all sarcastic comments I see from here on out

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 11:02 PM

i understand soccer (more than a couple previous coaches at fredericktown in my opinion) i also understand "american" football. i played soccer and football until i was in high school. i just personally don't see joy in watching a bunch of cry babies in england play. you can't deny that most professional soccer players are the biggest pansies in sports. i LOVE watching high school and college soccer but hate professional soccer. same goes for football. when i was in HS most of us football boys at freddy went to the home soccer games after practice to cheer them on. i was just getting your goat in my last post. BUT the best athlete i have personally seen come out of southeast missouri was cal lane and i think he was better at track than basketball.

-- Posted by TheDaddy on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 11:03 PM

Picking up on sarcasm on a forum is a little different than in person. Your general tone on here has been similar and the post with 'stupid' in it had a tone that didn't change too much, IMO. But, you're right - if someone doesn't pick up on sarcasm right away in a forum, they aren't intelligent - or maybe I'm being sarcastic...

-- Posted by yah-yah on Tue, Oct 2, 2012, at 11:03 PM

Why discriminate against the sport of soccer? I don't understand what it is that the muscle heads of football always hating on the sport. Yes, we understand the sport of football is manly and show what you think is toughness. I show respect for all sports, some maybe not as much as others, but I do not believe it is one of the toughest, mentally and physically. In my opinion, I would say gymnastics and swimming would come before it, but of course you wont understand that because youve never swam or trained for eithers competition. So I can't ever under stand the egos with football. I played football and I also played soccer. I was a collegiate athlete for sometime and I owe a lot to the game of soccer I feel like.

This is not a debate. When you have nothing else you then go with a grammar blast. Nice work! You fit the soccer mold perfect. Im sure I would have consumed your lunch on most days and pushed you down on the playground on the others. Keep telling yourself the one thing at life you were good at matters. But you understand Im sure, SOCCER or FUTBOL are what you do when you can't do anything else. So really what kind of fruit snacks did your team prefer? Did you have any that you thought were good luck? Maybe the pink ones? Hope that shin healed up tough guy. Just sayin....

The Naitch does not like soccer.

Adding it took the the Perryville football program off life support and put it in the grave.

No, you can't play. There was no plausible argument in your response, whatsoever.

If you aren't willing to debate, that's fine. You just continue to go about your business with childish, baseless tirades. When you have facts or intellectual reasoning to support your claims, you can try again.

yah-yah...the best athletes in the world play FOOTBALL. Some of the best conditioned athletes play soccer. Not even close in athleticism! Size, strength, speed, agility, come on! The strongest soccer player is weaker than the strongest NFL kicker. The fastest soccer player is slower than any 3rd string NFL receiver. The most poplar sport in America is the NFL and 3rd is NCAA football. Oh baseball is second....not sure where soccer ranks but hey go live in Brazil. I loved the game when the US women's team beat China, I stood up and cheered. You don't have to hate one to be a fan of the other. My son will play soccer until he can play football, it is great for kids. It is the most popular sport in the world but football is outnumbered 7 continents to 1. I hope ND continue it soccer dominance and its football abstinence.

-- Posted by Hawks Nation on Fri, Oct 5, 2012, at 10:08 PM

You would be right if your own personal definition was the actual definition of athlete.

An athlete is person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts.

And, plenty of high-level professional soccer players run sub 11 100 meter dashes. Heck, Nedum Onuoha ran an 11 second 100 at the age of 14. Luton Shelton runs a 4.4 40 yard dash and Marvell Wynne ran a 10.4 100 in high school. There are plenty of other players that have high-level speed in all levels of soccer. Not that those names mean anything to you, but your self-made facts mean nothing because you have nothing to base them on. You can make up your own facts, but, realize that they mean nothing when you don't have a clue about the athletic abilities of professional soccer players.

And, football is outnumbered 7 continents to 1? There are only 7 total continents and I'm pretty sure sports aren't played in Antarctica.

Also, I never said I was trying to win anyone over to soccer - I was merely informing people who are completely clueless about it.

Defention: Physically strong and well-developed; muscular. This is a definition to athleticism, what part of muscular did you defend? 11 second in the 100 is a great HS time but not an elite time. Jamal charles ran a 10.1 at Texas....waiting...ok. Larry Alan bench 700lbs. Darrell Green was a world class sprinter, who ran a 4.2 40 yard dash. Bo Jackson 4.2 at 6'2 225. Bullet Bob Hayes was an Olympic champion 100 meter guy who played WR for the cowboys. Andre Johnson won the 100 in the SEC at 6'3". The numbers are so staggering that it takes you an idiot to try and defend them. Bottom line the best athletes on the planet play in the NFL. And tell me what soccer player is stronger than an NFL guy? And what soccer player is faster than Chris Johnson? And what 6'1" guy that weighs 268 lbs is faster than dwight freeney who ran a 4.38 out of Syracuse? I watch soccer and can't stand the one who fall down and act like they have a broke leg only to get up and run off. It makes the sport look like WWF wrestling and no one can be a proud supporter of that crap! You ask for facts, put these in your delusional pipe and smoke them! You son, are dismissed!

Ok so it is 6 to 1. I would be searching too, to try and come back from this. Keep searching....and searching....debate.... ok I'm right...still dismissed! I watch soccer, you should watch football, they don't compete in America, Football is KING! Know your place and quit spreading stupid! Your like a avalanche of stupid, know what you are talking about before spreading the ignorance. 11 seconds in the 100 really?

Waiting.....acknowledged! Thanks for not coming back and spreading stupid! Winner!

Yah yah, c'mon tough guy. You just don't get it. Your somebody that thinks your probably a lot smarter than you actually are and have a HUGE chip on your shoulder about most everything. Soccer...just saying it makes me laugh.

Again, you're using a definition that fits your sport. Also, if you actually go back and read the forum, I've already said that I respect, follow, and watch football. In fact, I sometimes post on football forums here on Semoball and am a huge Mizzou Football fan. I'll be watching them try and get that elusive first SEC win tonight against Vandy.

If you take endurance out of the definition of athlete and add something like sheer size, which you have, then you can cater to your sport having the best 'athletes.' Different sports require different athletic abilities. But, to say that football automatically has the best athletes because of strength, speed, and size(which isn't a requirement for athleticism), then you're just being close-minded.

Also, as I posted above, the ball is actually in play for an averageof 11 minutes in an NFL game. Let's say the offense is on the field for 6 1/2 of those 11 minutes. That would mean the defense of the other team played a total of 6 1/2 minutes also. That leaves 4 1/2 minutes for the offensive and defensive counterparts of each team. Point being, it doesn't take a whole lot of endurance to play in the NFL. It takes size, speed, and strength. But, to say that encompasses the entire definition of athlete is far from the truth.

I'm not going to change your mind and that's not a big deal to me, but, if you honestly believe a sport with the most players of any other sport in the world doesn't have world-class athletes, then you also believe world-class athletes only exist in the USA. The fact is that in most other countries, the best athletes play soccer. And, most people who aren't die-hard American Football fans, would agree that those same athletes are world-class.

If we had a track meet, and weight lifting competition who wins? Running, jumping, throwing, and lifting, we could add boxing but hey I won't beat a dead horse. NEVER SAID SOCCER HAD NO ATHLETES, its called narcissism! It is from your large inferior complex, thats what you wanna hear. I said the best athletes in the world play in the NFL. I said you had great endurance athletes....again Narcissism. And no your not going to change my mind but, you might have changed everyone elses in my favor. The definition I used was an actual definition, not mine. I know the ball is in play a lot in soccer, it like baseball, you have to wait for something to happen. They are both games of anticipation.

Man, you guys sure can pee really far.

It's all a matter of opinion. I'll agree to disagree as this conversation is neverending. The main difference is you are calling me stupid, delusional, a narcissist, etc. Name-calling shows your intelligence in this conversation, especially considering you are clueless about who I am. I'm done arguing. Cheers.

"if you honestly believe a sport with the most players of any other sport in the world doesn't have world-class athletes, then you also believe world-class athletes only exist in the USA"... basketball in the Olympics proves this to be true

So this is why the school on Route K won't get football? Thanks for clearing all that up for me yah-yah, hawk nation, and whoever else. :)

-- Posted by Kobeyashi on Sat, Oct 6, 2012, at 10:14 PM

The real reason why ND doesn't have football is that they are already terrible at everything else they do and the administration just cant handle anymore embarrassment from boys athletics haha

I'm gonna say yah yah won the conversation. He won on about 85% of the things he said. Just because you type in capital letters and call people names does not mean you won( Hawks Nation). Usually the person with the best points win.

How long do you think it would take for ND to be able to compete with the big boys like Sikeston, Central, and Jackson?

-- Posted by Jacksmith9 on Tue, Oct 9, 2012, at 8:37 PM

Awhile. Football teams do not develop overnight due to it being a sport requiring so many different types of athletes in order to be successful as well as a coach and strategy that meshes with those athletes.

Do you think they could compete in under 10 years? This would include the 2 or 3 years of JV in order to start the program.
