I honestly wouldn't have a problem with Sikeston being ranked somewhere around 10th instead of 2nd

-- Posted by Sonic-The-Hedgehog on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 12:18 AM

Yea, but it's still pretty cool when we see one of our teams ranked that high.

-- Posted by Kzar on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 5:50 AM

I find it rather ironic a 4 & 4 team is in the top ten. Sure it's Helias....

-- Posted by mojo3 on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:45 AM

i find it ironic that sikeston st dominic sullivan and miller career are ranked! Thanks stl louis sportswriters for not knowing your missouri high school football! Yes Helias should be ranked!

-- Posted by usyouthem on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:42 PM

So a 4-4 team deserves to be ranked and four undefeated teams don't? Makes perfect sense to me!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:46 PM

The Helias losses are to CBC (#1 in Class 6), Hickman (#6 in Class 6), Rock Bridge (Receiving Votes in Class 6), and Harrisonville by one. Best schedule in Class 4. Name me the team in Class 4 (other than Webb City) who isn't losing at least three of those four games if not all four. They play Hannibal this Friday which should be a good indicator for the doubters if they should be ranked or not.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:50 PM

Sideline, I'm not arguing over whether or not Helias deserves to ranked, just pointing out the error in usyouthem's reasoning.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:53 PM

Oh ok, gotcha. Thought you were referring to teams in other classes not ranked or something. Got confused. Hah.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 6:55 PM

class 4 east side is week, every once in awhile they will come up with a team that can compete or win. hopefully sikeston can make the semis and find out what a turbo clock is like at half time!

-- Posted by usyouthem on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 7:26 PM

Sullivan - I saw them week one @ Central. (I told everybody how good they were and I got clowned-on!)

Anyways, I would be really tempted to go see a Sullivan/Sikeston matchup. That is all.

-- Posted by zachattack on Tue, Oct 16, 2012, at 7:34 PM

zach....I would love that too. But, wouldn't Sullivan have to get past Webb City? I'm not sure where they stand on the bracket.

-- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 8:37 AM

If they bracket it like last year then Dist1 winner will play Dist2, 3 will play 4, 5 vs 6 and 7 vs 8, then 1 vs 2 winner vs 3 vs 4 winner and so on to the Dome. So a Sullivan - Sikeston match up has to wait to see if Sullivan gets past Webb City.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 9:45 AM

Thanks, mojo3. I thought that to be the case, but I wasn't sure.

-- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 10:02 AM

Sikeston would get see Sulivan In the semifinals if both teams make it that far.

-- Posted by Kzar on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 10:59 AM

Remember I said if they bracket the tournament like last year. I haven't seen anything published for sure.

-- Posted by mojo3 on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 11:12 AM

The East Side is going to win Class 4 State Championship this year and theres just not a whole lot anyone can do about it. Sikeston wont play Sullivan in the Semi's either

-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 12:44 PM

When did Webb City become an east side team, lol. Jk

-- Posted by Kzar on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 12:54 PM

Webb City is an East Side team. Depending on how you classify 'East'. If you determine the side of the bracket that Sikeston, Farmington, Perryville, etc,. as the 'East'. Then yes. Webb is now an East side team. Geographically speaking, I think we all know that they are West

-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:02 PM

It's kind of more North-South according to the MHSHAA stuff I've read this year. Personally, I think they just wanted to see a Webb City vs KC area team in the final since many think a KC team normally gives Webb their best game.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:14 PM

Herculaneum is getting votes and they lost to Scott city? obviously Scott city beat Chaffee this year that's my my argument. my argument is this is a good Scott city team not great and they couldn't beat them so how are they gettin votes

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:15 PM

I guess herky's schedule is easier than Scott city's considering there difference in record despite the head to head matchup

-- Posted by sportsnerd on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:15 PM

sportsnerd, some voter in some other part of the state probably saw that Herky beat Valle, didn't know the circumstances around it (Valle losing their QB to injury), saw their record, and made the assumption that they are better than they are.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:19 PM

You would think since Valle is a private school they would have a decent back-up QB. What do I know right? lol

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:27 PM

Herky stumbled out of the gates and have been on a roll ever since. Jefferson County Conference would Destroy the Lowest level of the Semo conference w/ Chaffee and them. So it's probably not just they're schedule compared to others

-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 1:33 PM

I didn't hear about Valle's quaterback. What happened? Cheesehead, what do you mean? (You would think since Valle is a private school they would have a decent back-up QB.)

-- Posted by buyer beware on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:09 PM

Valle is a Private school but they don't recruit! Trust me if they did I would know! Valle has 2 backup QB both freshman one is Basler and other is Jagers both are about 5'7 130 soak n wet! I know the Basler kids father he was a good athlete so hopefully he takes after his dad! As for there QB Nolan Woods he suffered a concussion early in the 3! Rumor has it he's 50/50 friday but will b back by playoffs! If he's healthy they still beat Portagville if not season is over!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:28 PM

He left the game because of a concussion if I remember correctly. Just what I read.

I meant that most private schools can go after who they want to play for them. You would think, they would have had a back-up plan just in case their starter got hurt.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:29 PM

That still doesn't explain why they gave up so many points to Hercky. I'm shocked they scored so much against a great team like Valle.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:34 PM

Cheese this isn't the same Valle team yes they are good but they have no depth if you see them play there are more coaches on sideline then players! Usually if a player goes down they have a backup! Not this year if they loose either woods Fallert or that WR they are done that is there team in a nutt shell! Cheese me and Daddy are coming down Friday early what's the best place to eat? And come meet up with us u and beef I'll buy ya a adult beverage

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:46 PM

Cheesehead, you say "most private schools go after who they want to play for them". I want to hear names and schools. If your school was a consistent winner and I would perpetuate stupid unproven rumors about them you would be upset with me. Can'T you give them credit they deserve without insulting them?

-- Posted by buyer beware on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 2:55 PM

To give Cheese some credit here he's talking about teams like JB, And other big private schools! Im not a big Valle supporter but I do know Naeger and Martin are great coaches who 's players give them there all!! All of these players from Valle there fathers and grandpas uncles have all played for Valle!!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 3:03 PM

Who insulted who? It's no secret most private schools recruit. I never said Valle recruited. That's you putting words in my mouth. It just surprises me a school like Valle wouldn't have some sort of decent back-up is all. You need to chill out, no one is starting rumors or insulting Valle. Trust me, I've heard enough about my school and it's players on this site and others over the years. Valle doesn't need my credit, they have state titles to validate how good they are.

I don't think it would be a good idea for me to have an adult beverage before the game lol. I get loud enough as it is lol. I don't need any extra boost lol. I'll be there Friday, not sure when I'll be there. Let me know what your wearing that day and I'll find you and Daddy and say hello before the game.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 3:24 PM

Buyer Beware, Cheesehead wasn't insulting Valle. Private schools like Valle are allowed to recruit players and students outside their school limits. That's why MSHAA makes them play up a class and a half over their enrollment. Now BG says Valle doesn't recruit athletes which may be true, but if it is I have a hard time explaining why such a small school has won 11 state championships in football alone. Small schools usually go thru dry spells as far as talent is concerned and great coaching only goes so far.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 3:28 PM

While we're on the subject, can someone explain to me why Valle is allowed to compete in Class 1 anyway given the MSHAA rule about private schools playing up? Is their enrollment that small?

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 3:30 PM

Ya Preach it's really small! Preach I can look at there Rosters for the past 20 years and tell you were there from tell you there dads name and who they are related to! I'm not saying they haven't tried but I don't know of one player who has ever been recruited by Valle. Cheese I'll have my SG sweatshirt on and I'm sure daddy will have his Freddy sweatshirt on!

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 3:38 PM

Sorry about the rant, but I've listened to these comments for years, only when we're winning though. Valle is not my home team. I love to hate Valle, but boy do I respect them (hope they don't see this). The MSHSAA multiplier rule is 1.35 for private schools. MSHSAA shows Valle's enrolment at 179. So if my math is correct their actual enrollment is 132. That does not include the 60 grown men who are there on what they call mad dog scholarships. They keep them chained up in the furnace boiler room and they only allow them out on Friday nite to play football. Thats if they can learn the sign of the cross. It's only a game.

-- Posted by buyer beware on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 4:04 PM

I'll have my Cville hoodie on unless it's hot then, who knows.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 4:04 PM

Helias lost 4 games and still ranked 9th?

-- Posted by bulletman on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 6:38 PM

Read the entire forum. Literally first topic covered, thanks for coming though.

-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 6:45 PM

Peyton Manning signed with Denver so there went the backup Qb

-- Posted by hb1025 on Wed, Oct 17, 2012, at 8:10 PM

Got it...Thanks....Sideline--With your analogy above of strength of schedule I have to say that Cape Central should be in your top 5 over Portageville and Caruthersville. I had posted that I agreed with your top 5 because of the record but apparently you agree that strength of schedule should be considered. Thoughts?

-- Posted by bulletman on Thu, Oct 18, 2012, at 10:15 AM

Bleed green....Shawn Rodchester or somthing like that was an "exchange student"....all State basket ball player..go figure...also hold some track and field records for Valle.

-- Posted by Brother Vito on Fri, Oct 19, 2012, at 7:33 AM

Yep I know shawn he was a senior my sophomore yr! He was not recruited he was a foreign exchange student!! But it just so happen he lived with the Basketball coach haha

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Fri, Oct 19, 2012, at 7:55 AM

anyone but Skippy would have won a title...
