Well according to the seeds, yes it would be considered an upset. Anytime a lowe seed beats a higher seed, it's an upset. Although, either team could come out on top.

Pretty well a lock for the home teams to win the first round except:
Cabool at Portageville: Portageville - Did the loss to a weak NMCC team wake up the Bulldogs so they make a run and compete with Valle later in the tournament?
Hayti at St. Vincent: Hayti
Chaffee at Thayer: Thayer
Crystal City at Valle: Valle
East Prairie at Caruthersville: Caruthersville - maybe an easy win helps get some boys healthy there for the tougher rounds.
Scott City at Jefferson: Scott City
Grandview at Charleston: Charleston
St. Pius X at Malden: Malden
Kennett at Ste. Genevieve: Ste. Gen - should be a bye week. SG's JV plays second half.
New Madrid County Central at Potosi: NMCC - gotta go upset here. Was the win over Portageville a fluke? Could be a very close game.
Dexter at Fredericktown: FredMo - Preach is such a homer! ;) Seriously, I look for Dexter to come out tough, but this year's FredMo team is night and day compared to last year's.
Lift for Life at Park Hills Central: PHC
Perryville at Sikeston: Sikeston - Run the JV! Give the Pirates a chance!
Festus at Cape Central: Cape Central
Farmington at North County: North County - watch out for NC in the second round at Cape.
Desoto at Hillsboro: Hillsboro
Seckman at Fox: Fox
Poplar Bluff at Vianney: Poplar Bluff

Sikeston showed this past week that they are overrated as they were beat by a .500 Class 3 team. They don't play anybody during the season, and that will hurt them in the playoffs. Hillsboro advances out of this district.
-- Posted by Bogey Man on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 2:45 PM
Nope if Sikeston holds on to ball the advance
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 2:52 PM
Yes, because Hillsboro has just been so dominant this year with those big wins over Festus by three and Duchesne. Seriously, those are their two best wins. Meanwhile, those losses were to such state title contenders as North County and Fredericktown (blowout). I mean seriously, NoCo is decent and Freddy is good (though I don't get how they lost this past Friday) but it isn't like they have played a murderer's row compared to Sikeston. Sikeston probably played the best team on either schedule (Jackson) and played right about the same strength of schedule.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 2:56 PM
Thanks Bleed Green. I agree with you.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 2:57 PM
Mojo3, I realize that Fredericktown is a big favorite at home to win the game, but stranger things have happened. I would rather pick Dexter and be wrong than have those kids think for a minute I've given up on them because I certainly have not. They are much better than their record. I've got two boys on that team. Too many folks around here know who I am and alot of them read my comments. Loyalty and support are more important to me than being right in this case. I guess that does make me a homer!
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 3:35 PM
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Dexter win. They played a very tough PHC team pretty darn close for 3 quarters.

Coach Henson will have his players ready for this game! IMO Freddy will win this game by 35-15! Is every game on thursday night?
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 5:36 PM
Bleed, according to Mshsaa the NMCC - Potosi game is Friday. The only other game in Dist 1 listed on Friday is the Portageville - Cabool game. Of course that's Mshsaa and things may change by Thursday.
And to Preach, fully understand your position sir! I've had a couple parents say they like what I post from time to time even when I'm wrong and go against my loayalties! I try to give honest opinions, but when the game starts I'll be yelling for my Blackcats just like the rest of the fools in the stands!

Cabool at Portageville... p'ville. cabool is just too weird of a name to pick.
Hayti at St. Vincent... hayti. god isn't happy with st vincent right now.
Chaffee at Thayer... thayer. are they as good as their fans said they were last year on semosportsweb?
Crystal City at Valle... valle. but it's ugly as heck!
East Prairie at Caruthersville... c'ville. monroe has 375 yards and 5 td's
Scott City at Jefferson... jefferson makes it a game but SC wins it in the 4th.
Grandview at Charleston... charleston. i'm not jumping off this bandwagon for awhile.
St. Pius X at Malden... malden. st. pius is in festus and festus stinks as bad as SG does.
Kennett at Ste. Genevieve... it's like south park. "oh my god! you killed kenny!"
New Madrid County Central at Potosi... nmcc. i don't really see this as an upset. potosi would be 1-9 with last years schedule.
Dexter at Fredericktown... dexter won't be rushing the field after this game. freddy by 13.
Lift for Life at Park Hills Central... like i've said before, just because you are as strong as an ox doesn't mean you're good at football. PH by 40.
Perryville at Sikeston... sikeston wins 1593845859309-0. gross has 3500 yards rushing and 4785 yards passing. 28 total tds. sikeston sets 43 state and national records.
Festus at Cape Central... cape central by 2 td's
Farmington at North County... north county. i've said all year farmington was not very good. north county proves it. wins 35-0
Desoto at Hillsboro... pretty ugly game. hillsboro wins in a turnover filled game.
Seckman at Fox... don't know about either of these teams but fox is usually decent. so fox.
Poplar Bluff at Vianney... trees will beat sausages every time.

"c'ville. monroe has 375 yards and 5 td's"--You fotgot to mention he does it on three carries.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 6:51 PM
As much as id like to see it, i dont think he will get much playing time thursday. Starters will be pulled early im sure
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 7:04 PM
First off Sideline. Dont tell me what to do. I WILL pick every game if I choose to. And WILL.
Cabool at Portageville-Double Tight Wishbone goes to the house alot this week. I think Portageville will use this week to rub the rawness from there behinds after last week.
Hayti at St. Vincent-Indians win. Yeah. The Catholic ones, Line play will be crucial in this 4-5 matchup.
Chaffee at Thayer- Thayer is not the Thayer of old. but its okay b/c Chaffee is still not the Chaffee of 1985. I will reiterate I do not like the Red Devils. Its gonna be a long ride back from Arkansas land
Crystal City at Valle- Crystal City got pooped all over by those from the 'Grand View' last week. they could see a Grand View on the way out of Fr. John Dempsey to the tune of about 55-6
East Prairie at Caruthersville- Like i said earlier, at least EP kids are still trotting out there.. for the last time now though. Tigers
Scott City at Jefferson-Game could go either way, Jefferson carries fakes out ridiculously. Scott Cities volleyball team hits harder than the football team still. Hawks fly.
Grandview at Charleston- The Charleston BJays are going to BLOW the Eagles right outta C'town in a hurry. As long as there is no premature celebrations
St. Pius X at Malden- Green Wave Ride high while STPX lancers ride lame horses all the way home.
Kennett at Ste. Genevieve-Kennett is on their longest winning streak of the season and looks to make this a game by scoring sometime in the 4Q. Dragons 69-6.
New Madrid County Central at Potosi- NMCC may have figured things out last week with a dominating performance, it will be interesting to see if they can break through the Trojans. I wish my kid wouldnt have. Eagles 20-12
Dexter at Fredericktown- Black Cats are coming off a tough loss, Dexter is still average. Blackcats are greater than the Bearcats
Lift for Life at Park Hills Central- Didnt PHC have some KKK issues a couple years back? That might be the only interesting thing about this slaughter.
Perryville at Sikeston-As long as Sikeston can get their 7th grade out to the field by 6:30 they should be able to put up a turbo clock W
Festus at Cape Central- Rematch. Home game, Festus 1 and done. Cape goes about the same fate next week
Farmington at North County- NoCo is a NoGo in this matchup. Farmtown knights ride
Desoto at Hillsboro- The boro of hills have eyes. for the endzone. Desoto goes home, but at least they made the playoffs right?
Seckman at Fox- Don't care, Fox is an animal, Seckman isn't. Go Fox
Poplar Bluff at Vianney- I know a couple guys from Vianney, theyre weird. Go Poplar Bluff on a SEMO Homer pick
10-5 last week, makes for 32-9 on the season. Taint awful
-- Posted by BillShakespeare on Mon, Oct 22, 2012, at 8:22 PM
yea. monroe beats bourbon's YPC he had against noco. 121 yards per carry for monroe! and he gets 2 pick 6's for 1026 total yards.

-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:05 PM
Can I ask what did Sikeston really do winning 71-7 what point did you make other than to show just how sorry of a coaching system you have to beat a team like that I hope one day you are down and someone smokes you like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:08 PM
Did SG play Perryville? If so what was the score??
-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:08 PM
Sikeston had their starters out before the end of the 1st quarter, cville.
-- Posted by yah-yah on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:11 PM
Cvilletiger02, I'm sure Sikeston's coaching staff didn't do that intentionally. They seem to be a classy bunch. You can't help it that your opponent is that much worse than you are. That's why I HATE the new system. Teams like EP,Perryville, and other 8 seeds shoudn't have been playing.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:12 PM
Starters or no starters thats not right run simple run plays and tell your guys to go down burn the clock just sorry if you ask me!!!!
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:13 PM
cvilletiger02 I am sure Gibbs put in the back ups after the half, it is still the other teams job to stop what the offense is doing you can't just have your team lay down.
Caruthersville didn't even put in back ups they put in the freshman team with 10 minutes to go in the second quarter.
This is the reason I hate this new format I think it would be good if they give the 1 seed a bye week and the last seed should be eliminated because its a waste of gas and no team likes to be a doormat.
-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:14 PM
Cheese do you actually think that our JV team couldn't have beat EP by the same score I would almost bet that Morgan told his guys enough is enough you just don't do that to a team!!!
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:15 PM
I'm one to take a shot a Sikeston but there 3 team is better then perryville! I know coach Gibbs and he would not show up anyone!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:15 PM
Sikestons sophomore running back ran 2 big runs in the 2nd qtr to push the score....So cville, if the Jv team scoring on the pville starters twice is running up the score..so be it. U cant really start taking a knee at the beginning of the 2nd qtr.
-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:16 PM
cvilletiger, Sikeston was up 45-0 before the first was even over. After the first couple of scores, they just ran it up the middle and couldn't be brought down. They played the JV and freshman from the second quarter on and ran it up the middle with them too. Perryville just couldn't tackle them. It was all deep bench guys and freshman in the second half. If you want proof, the full game is archived on KFVS12.com for you to watch. There are scores like this all over the state for one seeds right now. Webb City, Lamar, Oak Grove and others have done the same thing so don't go bashing Sikeston and their coaches. Are they supposed to hike the ball and just take a knee on offense? The JV and freshman have worked hard all season and played the most basic offense possible. There wasn't much more that could be done.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:16 PM
I know we could have, I never said they couldn't. Morgan called the dogs off early and that shows what type of coach he really is. Our freshman did a pretty good job as well.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:17 PM
I think Kennet will be decent in a few years! They have a few athletes!
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:18 PM
Sideline there is no reason to explain. We know what type of coach Gibbs is, everyone knows he is not that type of coach. Sometimes your just outmanned and outmatched.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:19 PM
I see different with the score of the game all you do is show your younger players nothing but if they get hurt then the coach and parents are ***** you can run the ball up the gut and tell your players to go down its just stupid!!! But we could talk about this forever its over and done with now good luck to both teams!!!!!
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:19 PM
Sideline.....u cant please'em all.....lol It could have been 150-0 if Sikeston wanted to make a point. or worse.
-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:20 PM
"what point did you make other than to show just how sorry of a coaching system you have to beat a team like that"
When I read that, I have to defend the coaches. On a happy note, it was announced tonight that Coach Gibbs is going to be inducted into the High School Football Hall of Fame on November 30th.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:22 PM
cville.....so the sikeston defender who intercepted 2 passes in the 1st qtr should have dropped down and took a knee?? Dude u r barking up the wrong tree.
-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:22 PM
Bleed - Yes Kennett should be very good in a few years I thought comming into this year they would be pretty good but something went wrong they were a very young team last year I look for good things from them in the next few years.
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:23 PM
I can bark all night long what do you want yes coach gibbs is a good coach what do you want a cookie for him going to the hof seriously but what did he prove tonight besides nothing
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:25 PM
I didn't say he proved anything tonight. Apparently, you think he proved he's evil or something like that if you are going to bash him for the score of the game. I'm just defending him and his team for their sportsmanship. Since we were on the subject of him, I decided to add in the good news about him we received tonight.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:28 PM

-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:28 PM
Barkley - I don't drink find you some business and if Cheese can pull me in more power to him I would bash the Tigers if they beat a team like that unless it was Hayti
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:31 PM
I'm just glad we came out pretty healthy Our QB strained his shoulder but nothing serious he's ok!! Thank God! We brought up a Freshman his name is Anthony Roe he's a RB / RB / lb he came in tonight and ran the wildcat holy cow guys he's a beast remember that name he will b playing on Saturdays in 4 years
-- Posted by Bleed Green on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:31 PM
Do u think Perryville players would like it if we did stuff like u said? I'm thinking they would of been insulted. Heck we didn't score after halftime
-- Posted by TFA on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:32 PM
That's one thing we agree on cvilletiger02. I would be all over my team if we ran it up intentionally. I just don't think it's the case with Sikeston vs Perryville.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:33 PM
Bleed I will remember the name and good luck to Mr. Roe I hope he plays Saturdays and then on Sundays I also think Malden has a freshman QB as well that is a beast!!
-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:34 PM
I did not jump off the Dexter band wagon, just being realistic! I was not hating on Dexter when I predicted they would lose by 4 TDs. I just being honest to myself and trying to bring down the hype. With that said, Dexter will grow and learn off of this and will get better.

-- Posted by barkleyfan on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 9:38 PM
Idk if they crossed the 50 yard line in the first half, 2 pick 6's, a kickoff that we recovered, 5 earned touchdowns by chris, and newman had a one play 92 yard run, with another earned touchdown, if the starters wer eout by the 1st quarter you really cant complain, you just dont want to admit your wrong on this one. Its the other teams job to stop you, not you to stop yourself because they cant?
Congrats to coach gibbs on the hof honors

Don't know if this playoff system is going to help out the weaker teams. Maybe 1 and 2 should get byes and 7-8 don't play however that would give them only 9 games or play 7-8 vs each other and then their season would be over. Top 6 play in the round robin. Too many lopsided scores...

I think that California game was cancelled at halftime or that's what I read on MOSPORTS.
-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Thu, Oct 25, 2012, at 10:19 PM
Dexter was certainly outmatched tonight at Fredericktown. They had the better team and deserved to win. That said, we basically had a JV team out there tonight after more injuries, kids getting suspended from the team, and another starter quitting. During the first half tonight, we had three more starters injured, and another played hurt the whole night. Our starting QB went out in the 2nd half injured and our backup QB finished the game playing hurt. Also another senior starter who missed the first half of the season got hurt again in the 2nd half. The weather was just miserable and really nullified our passing game which is the strength of our offense. Just a terrible end to a terrible season where everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 12:31 AM
I hate to see that it ended this way Preach but the kids who want to play will take a night like tonight and a season like this one and use it as motivation for the future. They'll hit the weight room Monday morning and get started for next season. You've said this team was very young so all the experience those guys got tonight and this season will help.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 12:38 AM
WOW. Once again, tough night to be a Bearcat. I thought Fred-town was that that good and we were that bad AND I promise you Coach Henson didn't run the score up. IMO he is a class act. When you have a senior turn in his equipment the Tuesday before his last game because his dad said he could quit before the playoffs just puts the icing on the cake. This kid was a 2 way starter. Coaches invested their time and that's what they get. With that being said I wish Coach Pixley the best and hope the season sticks in the craw of the kids who do give a **** to go hit the weight-room hard and put a competetive product on the field next year. Good luck to all SEMO area teams and hope we have a few that make it to the dome.
-- Posted by sonny6killer on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 7:47 AM
Sonny, just gonna correct one thing because you're right, it was a tough night to be a Bearcat for the reasons I gave above. But the kid who quit did so without his dad's permission or knowledge. From what I understand, he was very upset about it. That bit of intel comes from another family member.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:34 AM
I'll post something on the Dexter - Fredericktown game later. But in regards to the Sikeston game and Coach Gibbs, wasn't there a comment by a coach I saw last year after his team put a big thumping on his opponent that would pretty much sum up the situation? If I remember it right it went: "We put our JV in for the second half. I expect my JV to be able to run the same system as the varsity team". Seems to me if I was a head coach I'd be expecting that too.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:39 AM
Who cares what cvilletigers02 said he has the right to say what he thinks. I read a lot of stuff other people said all year long that wasn't right
-- Posted by Jebbie88 on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:45 AM
Jebbie88, Semoball has standards and if you violate them, Rachel will delete your comments, and if you persist, she will suspend your account. And as the old saying goes, two wrongs don't make a right.
-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:51 AM
Hmm sounds like someone might have multiple accounts!
-- Posted by REDDIRT DOG on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:52 AM
Side,
this was exactly what I was talking about....1 vs 8......pretty much a very good chance of two things happening...
1) Coaches will be accused of running up score..
2) Somebody, if not all, players opposing coaches, fans, take exception to the beat down...
Sikeston never played another first team O past first qtr...matter of fact the freshman QB played 3 quarters...along with 2nd, 3rd team backs, receivers, etc........
I don't know how you tell 16,17 year old kids, to lay down......stop trying..when they are just excited to be playing....
This is why I question the format...It is far fetched to imagine an upset.....and the game , for the most part, isn't good for anyone.
-- Posted by Headhunt on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 9:04 AM
As far as they one brain surgeon who seems to like to chap everyone......well, barkley said it best...cant please some folks...who knows...
I bet there wont be alot of 70's next week...
maybe that'll tone down the rancor..
-- Posted by Headhunt on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 9:14 AM
I'm not really complaining about the system, it's what we have, and it is what it is. But some people may think this is unnecessary:
NMCC @ Potosi = 2 hours, 49 min = Not Yet Played
Cabool @ Portageville = 3 hours, 15 min = Probably going to be a blow out.
Kennett @ St. Genevieve = 2 hours 35 min= 55-15
Poplar Bluff @ Vianney = 2 hours 43 min= 41-15
St. Pius @ Malden = 2 hours 40 min = 37-6
Grandview @ Charleston = 2 hours 15 min= 63-0
Chaffee @ Thayer = 2 hours 42 minutes = 49-6
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 9:33 AM
I personally don't like the new system because of that reason and I don't like seeing teams get blew out that badly. Saying that, no system will be "perfect" so like you said, it is what it is.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 9:43 AM
I just watched the Sikeston/Perryville game. I saw nothing to indicate he was running up the score. Just an outmatched team getting it handed to them. I think people just like to pick at teams that win on a consistent basis and will try and find the smallest things to complain about.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 9:51 AM
I think this playoff system has problems like any will at the high school level but I'll take a week of mismatches to get two weeks of really good games. Just a few of the good matchups for next week: Sikeston-Cape, Park Hills Central-Fredericktown, Hillsboro-North County, Malden-Charleston, Portageville (probably)-Hayti, Valle-Thayer. Those are six of the ten games this week and they are all really good. An absolutely great slate if you ask me.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:03 AM
If you read the Hayti article, they said Hayti will play protageville next Wednesday, apprently they are already giving them the victory haha!
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:04 AM
I agree those are some good games, but if we went by last years system,You'd have to play all the teams in your district. Which we would have had all these good games even if it was the old system, just not all the same night!I see pro's and con's with both. Nothing we can do about it now and the blow out games I'm sure are over after last night! Should be some even games from here on out. Maybe a blow out or two.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:08 AM
Hah! Great bulletin board material for the Cabool Whatever-The-Heck-Their-Mascots-Are.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:10 AM
Oh just looked it up, their the blue and white bulldogs. They will be facing the Portageville blue and white bulldogs. Is their any orginality left anymore haha?
-- Posted by BuckMajor on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:16 AM
Let's loon at Class 2 for example though Cheese. Malden and Charleston have proven themselves to obviously be the second and third best teams in their district. Under the old system, one would have eliminated the other in Weeks 8-10 and we would have seen in the upcoming round Malden/Charleston vs Scott City and probably Caruthersville vs Jefferson. Both of those games would have stunk. Maybe they wouldn't have been blowouts like this week but they would not have been interesting either. I want to see the best teams have a shot of playing each other as late as possible and feel like this system does that well. It just also puts all the stinker matchups into one round and gets them over with. Obviously, this is just a friendly discussion.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:19 AM
Yeah I agree with you on seeing the best match-ups.I see it from both sides. Like I said, both systems has it's up's and down's. At least most blow-out games are over with.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:22 AM
I just saw this on MoSports by someone but I'd say the blowouts by one and two seeds is proof that the new system is getting it right. If ones and twos were being upset, we would have a real problem. The only one or two that I saw lost was a two seed. McCauley, who was beat by Jasper but it was understandable because McCauley had lost their 3000+ yard passer.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:25 AM
Yeah I read that as well. Losing a guy who passed for 3000 yards is tough.
-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:27 AM
Under the old system Perryville would have still had to play Sikeson but would have also had to play Cape and gotten beat just about as bad. I like this system better. Cape could have scored much more last night but had fumbles in the red zone. I still see Sikeston winning but it will have more of a playoff atmosphere than just a regular season "district" game. Just my opinion...
-- Posted by bulletman on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:31 AM
To Buck: You can make the same argument for any sport, why should Fredericktown travel 2 hours to Sikeston to be blown out in the district tournament for B'ball?
I think part of the "problem" here is in our area there is such a dichotomy in records between the #1 seeds and #8 seeds in the district 1's for all the classes. Take a look at Class 4, Dist. 8. There's only ONE school out of the eight with a losing record, only one near .500 at 5 & 4, the rest are 6 & 3 or better. And the results from last night, the #6 seed Smithville beat #3 Excelsior Springs AND #5 Liberty North beat #4 Lafayette of St. Joe.
I only looked at Class 3 and 4 and found six games where the lower seeded team beat the higher seed. Sure most were #5's beating #4, but in addition to the one above, the other #6 team beating a #3 was Logan-Rogersville over Salem. Now, under the old system, would the defending state champs have a chance to repeat?
My point, you have to look at the big picture before throwing out this system.
-- Posted by mojo3 on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 11:43 AM
Yeah I understand. I wasn't really making an argument, I like the new system. The travel is going to happen in lots of systems probably. Sure it will turn some away, like me, I'm not going to Potosi this evening. But that happens in all systems. I was just saying SOME people may not like that part of it.

Gianthook when did Portageville take their starters out? Just curious.
-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:21 PM
Some starters but not all
-- Posted by paulbd on Fri, Oct 26, 2012, at 8:53 PM
Oh ok I seen where Allen had 3 TDs and 150 yards, he is their work horse and I figured he would be out after the first quarter if it was well in hand. I know some coaches like to keep the players in that way they can get full game reps in but with the weather the way it is and the tough games ahead of them I surely wouldn't risk it. I am sure they had some kinks to work out after last week as well.

I don't think I would call Hayti beating SV an upset.

Nope if Sikeston holds on to ball the advance
Yes, because Hillsboro has just been so dominant this year with those big wins over Festus by three and Duchesne. Seriously, those are their two best wins. Meanwhile, those losses were to such state title contenders as North County and Fredericktown (blowout). I mean seriously, NoCo is decent and Freddy is good (though I don't get how they lost this past Friday) but it isn't like they have played a murderer's row compared to Sikeston. Sikeston probably played the best team on either schedule (Jackson) and played right about the same strength of schedule.
Thanks Bleed Green. I agree with you.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Dexter win. They played a very tough PHC team pretty darn close for 3 quarters.

Coach Henson will have his players ready for this game! IMO Freddy will win this game by 35-15! Is every game on thursday night?
As much as id like to see it, i dont think he will get much playing time thursday. Starters will be pulled early im sure
Taint awful
yea. monroe beats bourbon's YPC he had against noco. 121 yards per carry for monroe! and he gets 2 pick 6's for 1026 total yards.

The KKK idiots stand at the 4-way stop in downtown PH... handing out their racist literature. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the school or it's football program.
I know it was just a joke (above) but I figured I'd clarify! :)
Zach, weren't they joined by some Illinois Nazis? I hate Illinois Nazis (to quoth Jolliet Jake Blues)
idk zach i heard harlow hands out hoods at the middle school.... (that's a joke as well. but i really do dislike that man.)
Vianney leads Poplar Bluff 41-0 at half.
Sikeston is up on Perryville 8-0 in the very early first.
Sikeston leads Perryville 45-0 after the first. Chris Word has four rushing TDs and one receiving TD.
Sikeston leads 71-0 at the half. Gross and Word were done after the first quarter and just about the rest of the varsity is done for the night for Sikeston.
49-0
PHC over Lift for Life.
PHC's JV came in during the 2nd QTR.....it was a rough night for LFL.
Sikeston up 71-0 on Perryville after three.
Sikeston wins 71-7. There's no better guarantee of a bounceback after a tough loss than getting Perryville on the schedule.
SG 55 Kennet 15
Can I ask what did Sikeston really do winning 71-7 what point did you make other than to show just how sorry of a coaching system you have to beat a team like that I hope one day you are down and someone smokes you like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did SG play Perryville? If so what was the score??
Sikeston had their starters out before the end of the 1st quarter, cville.
Starters or no starters thats not right run simple run plays and tell your guys to go down burn the clock just sorry if you ask me!!!!
cvilletiger02 I am sure Gibbs put in the back ups after the half, it is still the other teams job to stop what the offense is doing you can't just have your team lay down.
Cheese do you actually think that our JV team couldn't have beat EP by the same score I would almost bet that Morgan told his guys enough is enough you just don't do that to a team!!!
I'm one to take a shot a Sikeston but there 3 team is better then perryville! I know coach Gibbs and he would not show up anyone!
Sikestons sophomore running back ran 2 big runs in the 2nd qtr to push the score....So cville, if the Jv team scoring on the pville starters twice is running up the score..so be it. U cant really start taking a knee at the beginning of the 2nd qtr.
cvilletiger, Sikeston was up 45-0 before the first was even over.
I know we could have, I never said they couldn't. Morgan called the dogs off early and that shows what type of coach he really is. Our freshman did a pretty good job as well.
I think Kennet will be decent in a few years! They have a few athletes!
Sideline there is no reason to explain. We know what type of coach Gibbs is, everyone knows he is not that type of coach. Sometimes your just outmanned and outmatched.
I see different with the score of the game all you do is show your younger players nothing but if they get hurt then the coach and parents are ***** you can run the ball up the gut and tell your players to go down its just stupid!!! But we could talk about this forever its over and done with now good luck to both teams!!!!!
Sideline.....u cant please'em all.....lol It could have been 150-0 if Sikeston wanted to make a point. or worse.
"what point did you make other than to show just how sorry of a coaching system you have to beat a team like that"
When I read that, I have to defend the coaches. On a happy note, it was announced tonight that Coach Gibbs is going to be inducted into the High School Football Hall of Fame on November 30th.
cville.....so the sikeston defender who intercepted 2 passes in the 1st qtr should have dropped down and took a knee?? Dude u r barking up the wrong tree.
Bleed - Yes Kennett should be very good in a few years I thought comming into this year they would be pretty good but something went wrong they were a very young team last year I look for good things from them in the next few years.
I can bark all night long what do you want yes coach gibbs is a good coach what do you want a cookie for him going to the hof seriously but what did he prove tonight besides nothing
I didn't say he proved anything tonight. Apparently, you think he proved he's evil or something like that if you are going to bash him for the score of the game. I'm just defending him and his team for their sportsmanship. Since we were on the subject of him, I decided to add in the good news about him we received tonight.
Cheese....pull your tigers in....lol one of them is hitting the bottle a bit.
Barkley - I don't drink find you some business and if Cheese can pull me in more power to him I would bash the Tigers if they beat a team like that unless it was Hayti
I'm just glad we came out pretty healthy Our QB strained his shoulder but nothing serious he's ok!! Thank God! We brought up a Freshman his name is Anthony Roe he's a RB / RB / lb he came in tonight and ran the wildcat holy cow guys he's a beast remember that name he will b playing on Saturdays in 4 years
Do u think Perryville players would like it if we did stuff like u said? I'm thinking they would of been insulted. Heck we didn't score after halftime
That's one thing we agree on cvilletiger02. I would be all over my team if we ran it up intentionally. I just don't think it's the case with Sikeston vs Perryville.
Bleed I will remember the name and good luck to Mr. Roe I hope he plays Saturdays and then on Sundays I also think Malden has a freshman QB as well that is a beast!!
I did not jump off the Dexter band wagon, just being realistic! I was not hating on Dexter when I predicted they would lose by 4 TDs. I just being honest to myself and trying to bring down the hype. With that said, Dexter will grow and learn off of this and will get better.
Classy cville. court is adjourned.
Does that tie James record for the longest rushing touchdown?
Dustin its odd you don't get on here till playoff time or sikeston does something good you need to find a hobby as well go throw a roll or somethin!!!
I talk to a lot of the players in my own personal time, sorry i work 40+ hours a week on top of school, because i dont spend as much time on here as i used to doesn't mean I'm jumping on the bandwagon.
Charelston beat their team 63-0 but i don't see you jumping all over them
for some reason personal agenda is in effect.
Thank u Cville for the info. Your comments have assured u of absolutely no credibility from here on.
Here are just a few scores from around the state:
California 71 Missouri Military 0
Lamar 70 Stockton 0
Maryville 66 Lincoln Prep 8
Oak Grove 71 Southwest 6
Blair Oaks 68 Father Tolten 13
This just happens with the mismatches.
Wow! I'm in total shock! I don't even know what to say about the comment you made about Charleston but wow!
sideline......good stuff. Thanks...stake drove a little deeper.
I hate to see that it ended this way Preach but the kids who want to play will take a night like tonight and a season like this one and use it as motivation for the future. They'll hit the weight room Monday morning and get started for next season. You've said this team was very young so all the experience those guys got tonight and this season will help.
Sonny, just gonna correct one thing because you're right, it was a tough night to be a Bearcat for the reasons I gave above. But the kid who quit did so without his dad's permission or knowledge. From what I understand, he was very upset about it. That bit of intel comes from another family member.
Who cares what cvilletigers02 said he has the right to say what he thinks. I read a lot of stuff other people said all year long that wasn't right
Jebbie88, Semoball has standards and if you violate them, Rachel will delete your comments, and if you persist, she will suspend your account. And as the old saying goes, two wrongs don't make a right.
Hmm sounds like someone might have multiple accounts!
Side,
this was exactly what I was talking about....1 vs 8......pretty much a very good chance of two things happening...
As far as they one brain surgeon who seems to like to chap everyone......well, barkley said it best...cant please some folks...who knows...
I bet there wont be alot of 70's next week...
maybe that'll tone down the rancor..
I personally don't like the new system because of that reason and I don't like seeing teams get blew out that badly. Saying that, no system will be "perfect" so like you said, it is what it is.
I just watched the Sikeston/Perryville game. I saw nothing to indicate he was running up the score. Just an outmatched team getting it handed to them. I think people just like to pick at teams that win on a consistent basis and will try and find the smallest things to complain about.
If you read the Hayti article, they said Hayti will play protageville next Wednesday, apprently they are already giving them the victory haha!
Hah! Great bulletin board material for the Cabool Whatever-The-Heck-Their-Mascots-Are.
Oh just looked it up, their the blue and white bulldogs. They will be facing the Portageville blue and white bulldogs. Is their any orginality left anymore haha?
Yeah I agree with you on seeing the best match-ups.I see it from both sides. Like I said, both systems has it's up's and down's. At least most blow-out games are over with.
Yeah I read that as well. Losing a guy who passed for 3000 yards is tough.
Yeah I understand. I wasn't really making an argument, I like the new system. The travel is going to happen in lots of systems probably. Sure it will turn some away, like me, I'm not going to Potosi this evening. But that happens in all systems. I was just saying SOME people may not like that part of it.
Uncle
Portageville 6, Cabool 0
50 yard run by Daniel Allen on first play from
scrimmage 16 seconds into the game.
Portageville 20, Cabool 0 end of 1st quarter
Portageville 43, Cabool 7 at the half
Gianthook when did Portageville take their starters out? Just curious.
Some starters but not all
Oh ok I seen where Allen had 3 TDs and 150 yards, he is their work horse and I figured he would be out after the first quarter if it was well in hand. I know some coaches like to keep the players in that way they can get full game reps in but with the weather the way it is and the tough games ahead of them I surely wouldn't risk it. I am sure they had some kinks to work out after last week as well.
