C'ville State Title Chances
Posted by cvilletiger02 on Mon, Oct 29, 2012, at 8:24 PM:

So what are the thoughts that Caruthersville can win a title this year?

I know you all may think I am putting "the cart before the horse" but I also think if Caruthersville can stay focused and play like they are able to they can beat Maplewood and compete for a title I myself think this team has the chance to bring it home this year.

Replies

Seeing both teams play this year, both teams have a high profile player in Hagans(MRH) and Monroe for Cville. I believe MRH has more talent on their roster, however, their lack of discipline is reason for optimism.MRH hasn't found a dominant rusher outside of Hagans. Was thought their little RB that came from one of the Hazelwood districts last year was going to be great but don't know if he has improved as much as thought.Would be a good game to see!Heard MRH played a real good game for 3 quarters if that means anything.

No doubt MRH has a load of talent as they always do I was wondering if anyone thought that the lack of discipline on the MRH sideline would determine the outcome of this game. I do know that C'ville played them a great game last year and no doubt should have won having the ball inside the 5 several times to come away with no points. My prediction C'ville by 12 in a very good game by both teams. I would also like to wish all of the other teams, coaches, and fans good luck and safe travel throughout the playoffs.

Maplewood is a good FB team. Gotta stay on #9

I couldn't resist......

I'd like to say yes to winning a state title, but with all the injuries and the lack on depth at the line, Im a little bit skeptical.

-- Posted by Tigersfan on Mon, Oct 29, 2012, at 9:07 PM

Thanks for the video I can see why you say stay on #9 he could be really good I also saw the left hook from the MRH player at around the 2:50 mark I will make no comment but WOW!!!!!!!!!

-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Mon, Oct 29, 2012, at 9:34 PM

I agree with Tigersfan, I know we have a good team and I know we could pull the upset but that line of ours is pretty slim on numbers. They have to play both ways the whole game and with a physical line like MRH they will probably get worn down over 4 quarters. We will have to limit the mental mistakes especially the late 15 yarders like we had against Ste. Genevieve even though I never saw what they were for I know we had 2 of them back to back and one of those set them up with a 1st and goal at the 8 yard line.

Tigers are alot more spread out in points this year, unlike last year when you knew Elbie or Darrell was going to get the ball we have put together a pretty good option read offense so they will not be able to stack 9 in the box this year. We are also going to have to pass slants and Grissom is going to have to be able to throw on the roll-outs. Our defense has done pretty good this year at stopping the run and when teams have passed well against us we usually would keep it in front of us (Hayti and Ste Gen). I think coaching is going to be a big part of this teams success if we make it to the quarterfinal game this year, proper adjustments and trust in your QB to make a few slant passes and not just rely on a quick WR behind the LOS pass and deep balls that our guys have to make plays to catch them. MW will have the athletes to pick those and turn them into 6 the other way. I could go on and on about what, how and ifs but I know this team has the potential to win the QF game but I think the other teams on down the road would not favor us to well. Games are played on the field not on Semoball so this story that I just wrote means nothing just my opinion on things.

-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Mon, Oct 29, 2012, at 9:35 PM

@ wheresthebeef I think C'ville will be getting a few back in the next week or so I heard that Callens only had to sit 2 weeks after getting his cast off which should put him back on the field this week but your points are very good and will be the difference if C'ville wins or not

-- Posted by cvilletiger02 on Mon, Oct 29, 2012, at 10:35 PM

Mountain Grove and Mt. View Liberty both put a really good product on the field then...you have Lamar. Class 2 is just loaded this year.

I think the Tigers have a chance if they can start putting together more consistent drives. Too many times this year, one bad play has dictated the entire drive. Whether it be on 1st and 10 from their own 20, or 1st and 10 from their opponents. I think Caruthersville's season comes down to how well they execute. Forcing turnovers and avoiding penalties should be the main focus for this team. They have done a great job of limiting their turnovers so far this season. This team has came along way since week 1 and this may be Morgan's best season as a coach with how much he's had to overcome. I'm excited to see how this team does throughout the rest of the season.

Let's go SEMO! Somebody bring us back a state title!!

I know I don't post much on here...but just thought I was add to cvilletiger02 and wheresthebeef's conversation that I have it on pretty good authority that we WILL have Callens back as well as Strickland back on the line...maybe as early as Wednesday's game....at least by the time we might meet MW. I feel like we have a great chance at getting a win over MW this time. Our defense has performed very nicely as of lately and will only be stronger with these two back in the line up.

How has Cville passing game been this year? Last year I felt as if you guys could have passed the ball better, we definitely would've taken a loss. Game was close last year with several missed opportunities by Cville. Im expecting another close game with MRH winning by a touchdown. Oh, that Fonda kid was something wicked. Hope all your guys are healthy for this one. Should be another fun contest. Good luck to you all and see you soon. If nothing crazy happens.lol

-- Posted by CHS2MRH on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 9:19 AM

Our passing game is MUCH improved from last year. We use just about everyone so no one or two players get the majority of the workload. Defense is a ton better this year also. Overall, we are a more balanced team.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 9:24 AM

CTiger02. What hook did you see? I missed it. I saw two kids tangled up #39PHC and #59MRH. #39 released with his rt hand first and #59 did the exact same. They both went helmet to helmet and nothing happened. If that was a right hook, man I hope #59 nor #39 ever gets into a fight. Its part of the game bro, its part of the game. Nothing there man.

-- Posted by CHS2MRH on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 9:27 AM

Oh my fault, that was #35PHC not #39.

-- Posted by CHS2MRH on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 9:29 AM

I watched the clip. If anything, #59 from MRH was just reacting to being hit first. Just my opinion. I agree, nothing major there. I've seen much worse

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 9:34 AM

SO..chs2mrh what's your opinion on the Ste Gen-Mrh game, was that part of the game, thats not football Bro!

-- Posted by SGFAN on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 10:13 AM

I only offer opinions on things I see. I was on a college visit at SEMO with my son that game . But I did hear about all the penalties and so on. So to answer your question, I don't have an opinion. But hey if you say it happened , I will take your word for it. But the clip shown I didn't see anything wrong with two kids playing hard, using a lil aggression to separate themselves. Nothing wrong with that. When I use the word Bro, please dont take it personal, just my love for people. Oh I am a bootheel guy. I support all teams from charleston on up to Maplewood. If MRH doesn't win the ship I am always glad to see someone from the Bootheel do it. Hope this puts that fire out. Its all opinions anyways, have fun and enjoy it.

-- Posted by CHS2MRH on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 11:36 AM

I think they should take it one game at a time and make the most of every opportunity...but thats just me

-- Posted by forgotaboutme on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 3:32 PM

Those two players were going at it all night.....that little incident was about the worst thing that happened during that game. Both players were wrong, but I decided to include it in the video anyways...

MRH played that Funeral music at their homecoming against PHC last year, so I felt that it was appropriate to use music that they were familiar with! :)

I don't believe Cville can win a state title this year but I do believe they are good enough to beat MWood! But here's the key to the game! We all know MWood is undiscipline they will jump off sides they will hold they will false start and we all know they will get personal fouls! Cville must must capitalize on those mistakes they must not let MWood bully them and last they must not turn ball over more then 2 times! Cause MWood will turn the ball over! MWood can be dunned on we came out second half and destroyed them by running they couldn't stop it! We out scored them in the 2 half 22-7 to bad they out scored us by 23 in first half! Cville has the back and the line to beat them and I believe they will

If I was a C-ville coach I would hate this thread.

-- Posted by mobrigade on Tue, Oct 30, 2012, at 10:16 PM

The State Champion of Class 2 comes out of the Central or western part of the State,,Lamar, Grove or Liberty.

-- Posted by eagletimer on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 8:24 AM

Maybe Lamar or Grove but Liberty will get beat.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 8:26 AM

I seem to remember you saying Liberty would get beat the first game of the season also Cheese.

-- Posted by eagletimer on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 9:00 AM

As a matter of fact your wrong. I said Liberty would win that game. Grove will take you out Monday

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 9:02 AM

I looked back at my pick. You were right, I did pick Cville in that game. Grove will still take you out.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 9:07 AM

Maplewood might want to focus on Brentwood first before they worry about cville...

-- Posted by sherman on Thu, Nov 1, 2012, at 2:16 PM

Hey Cheese,,your 0-2 on your Liberty picks. Liberty 21 Grove 7.

-- Posted by eagletimer on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 12:21 AM

eagletimer needs to go to www.centralmoball.com instead of hanging around here on semoball! Just kidding. Cheese should know better than to pick against the Eagles. You guys made a believer out of me in week 1. Great victory for you all tonight. Congrats on avenging your loss to Mountain Grove and sending them packing tonight. Best of luck against Lamar. Sounds like they are going to be really tough, but I already know that the Eagles are tough! Good luck to you all...I'd love to have a rematch with you all on November 17.

-- Posted by Judgedog on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 12:45 AM

Hey Judge ,,no ill will trust me,just razzing Cheese,,you all got a good site here. I wouldn't mind seeing a C'Ville Liberty rematch,,but we both got have our own Giants to battle this Saturday. Very best of luck to the Tigers this weekend.

-- Posted by eagletimer on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 7:16 AM

C'ville has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season. After watching them against the Jays in their first meeting, I thought that there was no way they were one of the best teams in SEMO area (of course, I thought that about Sikeston, too, after game #1 vs C'ton), but after seeing them, last night, my opinion of the Tigers has completely changed. Very tough defensively and very tough to defend their multiple weapons on offense...definitely not a 1-man show.

-- Posted by birdfan on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 7:29 AM

Well me picking Grove over Liberty was not that far from a stretch. Grove beat them once this year so it's not like Liberty was the heavy favorite coming in. Liberty just came to play last night. Can't "razz" me, I'm the un-razzed lol. I've been wrong with picks before and I'm sure I will again in the future. Hopefully both Liberty and Caruthersville can win the next game so Liberty can see the improvement from my Tigers.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 7:40 AM

Hey Cheese,,glad you know it's all in good fun.

Now for some seriuosness give me your thoughts on the upcoming C'ville/MW.

Liberty after knocking off 2 unbeatens on the road gets to come back home at least. Lamar will be no easy task as you know. They are the dang quarter final monkey on Liberty's back,,lol.

I do like the fact that we got the intensity back that we lost for awhile after week 2.

-- Posted by eagletimer on Tue, Nov 6, 2012, at 8:29 AM

I say c ville has a very good chance to win against mph and maybe even win state. it all comes down to if they wont it bad enough. they clearly have the talent to compete with there opponents just cant give good teams the ball cause of turnovers and this year they have to finish drives that's there spot they need to improve on is finishing drive hasn't been able to do that all year on consistent games.

-- Posted by head coach on Wed, Nov 7, 2012, at 8:45 AM

Caruthersville will field one of the best Offensive lines that I've seen go through the system. This should be interesting the way it plays out because aside from Week 1 against a good MVL team, the Caruthersville defense has been on point. Hagens is a good dual threat QB and the defense will face one of (if not) the most pass heavy offenses all year. The tigers have shown great speed on the edge and 30 sacks on the season. Should be a great match up as both teams score a lot and in a hurry. You don't talk about lineman play much, but I'm pretty excited to see what the big boys look like on both sides. If the tigers can move the ball through the air (which they couldn't do last year) I believe they come out on top. IMO it's going to be a close one. My only worry for Saturday is sometimes Grissom's passes have had a tendency to float from time to time this season and the receivers have to come back to make a play on the ball. These will be the best DB's Caruthersville has seen all year and Grissom will need to be on point. If the passing game is there, I believe Monroe will have a HUGE game because MRH won't be able to stack the box like last year. I see Caruthersville pulling away in a tight one. Should be really fun to watch!

Speaking on the MW guy swinging at 35. I was standing right there on the sideline

and if he wasn't swinging at petey then he must of been swatting fire flies because his arm defienetly swung. I will agree with Zach though they were going at it all nite.
