Other High School Sports Forum: State Wrestling

Posted by Rachel Crader on Thu, Feb 16, 2012, at 4:10 PM:

I'm following the state wrestling results off and on this afternoon. Obviously others can post results as well. I'm not promising this is a comprehensive list.

In Class 2, Dexter's Cody Stevens won is first match and is waiting on his second match. His teammates Trever Waldner and Morgan Dean lost their first matches but won in the consolation round. (Hit tip to @darsports)

Notre Dame's Trent Gross and Trever Foltz won in the first round.

Classes 3 and 4 haven't gotten underway.

  • Rachel, where are you getting these results from? I'd like to follow it myself. I appreciate you posting these updates.

Nichols lost a tight one 8-6 in wrestlebacks. He should be proud of his effort. It was 7-6 and he almost got a takedown @ the end.

    -- Posted by yah-yah on Thu, Feb 16, 2012, at 9:52 PM
  • Nichols should have a great year next year with a year's experience under this belt. Going to state in your first year as a wrestler is just amazing!

Driskill and Walker have both been eliminated. Sikeston has Blake Angle and Kenton Robinson alive in the quarterfinals as well as Jacob Stinnett alive in round two of wrestlebacks.

Semifinals begin at 6pm, sideline. Jake Stinnett should be wrestling within the next 30 minutes in wrestlebacks.

Kenton won't be too far after Jake in his wrestleback.

Good luck to Jake today as well as Kenton. All three of those guys, along with the others from yesterday, are really making the town proud. This has been the most guys I have seen do well at state for Sikeston in years.

Also, will somebody post on here when either one starts their wrestleback?

    Stinnett starting.

    Stinnett lost and Kenton won.

So is Kenton done for the day or does he have one more wrestleback tonight? I'm not exactly an expert on wrestling state in case you can't tell. Great season by Jake Stinnett as well.

    As you can tell*

-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Feb 17, 2012, at 4:19 PM
  • Sideline, there's a third round of wrestlebacks at 6 pm today. Kenton should compete then, as well as Dexter's Cody Stevens and ND's Trever Foltz. The semifinals are also at 6 pm and Blake Angle should wrestle then.

Blake Angle just lost to Perkins, an undefeated Oak Park wrestler 10-8. He was down 8-3 and fought back until the final whistle. Left it all on the mat.

Kenton Robinson lost 4-3 and is eliminated from the tournament.

    -- Posted by yah-yah on Fri, Feb 17, 2012, at 7:23 PM
  • As best I can tell, only the following Semo wrestlers are still alive at the state tourney: Cody Stevens of Dexter, Matt King of Poplar Bluff, Blake Angle of Sikeston, and Jackson's Jarrett Risenbichler, Kodi Byrd, and Cody Morgan. All are in the consolation bracket, so I don't think any of them will compete for a state title. If they win out, they could win 3rd place which is nothing to sneeze at!

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Sat, Feb 18, 2012, at 12:36 AM
  • Dexter's Cody Stevens took 6th place at 160 lbs. in Class 2. Congratulations to Cody, as well as our other state contenders, Coaches Schwab and Sneed, and to the entire Bearcats wrestling team for an outstanding season!

There were 3 or 4 new Madrid wrestlers at state, havent heard anything about them

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sat, Feb 18, 2012, at 1:42 PM

Buck, look at the Standard Democrat story about Angle still being alive at state. Covers all the local kids that competed yesterday. I believe all of the NMCC kids have been eliminated.

Okay thanks! I hadn't heard anything about how they had faired so far

  • Final results from Columbia for Semo wrestlers:

    1. Jarrett Reisenbichler (Jackson), 4th Place @ 106 lbs. in Class 4.

    2. Matt King (Poplar Bluff), 5th Place @ 106 lbs. in Class 3.

    3. Kodi Byrd (Jackson), 6th Place @ 113 lbs. in Class 4.

    4. Blake Angle (Sikeston), 6th Place @ 120 lbs. in Class 3.

    5. Cody Stevens (Dexter), 6th Place @ 160 lbs. in Class 2.

    6. Cody Morgan (Jackson), 6th Place @ 170 lbs. in Class 4.

Congratulations to all these young men, all Semo wrestlers, coaches, and teams for an outstanding season of high school wrestling! Already looking forward to next season!

  • Congratulations to Blake Angle, from Sikeston, on Finishing 6th in the State at 120!

Blake is Nephew to the Southeast Missouri Legendary Wrestling Dynasty of: Terry, Billy, Danny and Johnny Ruby.

The Ruby Family has earned enough State Medals through the years to start a Hardware Store.

It was a pleasure seeing Blake continue the tradition.
