Question on JV teams
Posted by causeisaidso on Mon, Sep 12, 2011, at 11:10 AM:

this is a stupid question but I am new at high school sports regarding Varsity teams and JV teams. Do the JV games 'count'? I am talking softball in this case. I am not sure how they handle this. Can someone answer this question? By count, I mean none of the scores or action is posted or reported on JV. Sorry to be so dumb about this.

No JV doesn't really count. The scores usually aren't reported except for a few occasions.

There are 'wins' and 'losses' but no, it doesn't really count. There isn't really much keeping track of it since each team is very different on where their JV is, who plays JV, etc. They just help kids get game action against an opponent.

Completely agree with sideline starter regarding junior varsity games.

Jv games are really to develop players. It helps the kids who have a hard time understand how to play the game, get a better idea of what it's like. It also helps the coach see what he has coming up for future years and bring the promising ones to Varsity. It's a shame some high schools has to cancel their JV season's because lack of players or opponents. Having a JV really helps out!
