High School Volleyball Forum: Week of Aug. 30 Baseball, Volleyball & Softball Scores

Posted by drawmules2 on Sun, Aug 29, 2010, at 12:44 AM:

The start of volleyball season should add to the excitement of the fall sports season this week.

This week I will attend the Bernie / Clarkton baseball game and the Bloomfield / Cape Central volleyball game on Monday, the Bernie / North Pemiscot baseball game and the Bernie / Sikeston volleyball game on Tuesday, the Bernie / Holcomb baseball game and the championship game of the Woodland Volleyball Tournament on Friday, and the Notre Dame Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

I will also travel to Rogersville on Thursday to watch Logan-Rogersville take on Mountain Grove in high school volleyball. Logan-Rogersville is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest Class 3 state poll. I'm interested to see how Logan-Rogersville compares to the two teams that are currently ranked in Class 3 from Southeast Missouri - Perryville and Notre Dame.

I'll post scores as the week progress on this thread.

It is my understanding a live webcast of the Dexter / Richland volleyball game on Monday and the Bernie / Sikeston volleyball game on Tuesday will be available at dailystatesman.com.

  • Well, "drawmules2," we finally discover your true identity: Dustin Ward?

  • Kitty Purry

If you take the name Ward and spell it backwards it comes out draw.

What games will you be attending this week?

Do you know the starting time of the championship game of the Woodland Volleyball Tournament?

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Aug 30, 2010, at 2:57 AM
  • Clever! Everyone I've spoken to who gets on here has been wondering who you are. I'll be at the Woodland Tournament all week.

The championship game is slated to start at 8 p.m., I believe. Consolation game at 5 p.m. and third place game at 6:30 p.m., but the games may run ahead or behind schedule. I don't think each game will take an hour and a half, let alone an hour. I'd say get there around 6:30 just to be safe. Probably wouldn't hurt you to get there much earlier if you expect to find a good seat, because Leopold brings their entire town and takes up most of the gym especially during the championship match.

WHAT JV TEAMS ARE IN THE BERNIE JV T-MENT FOR VOLLEYBALL.

-- Posted by scfannjackson on Tue, Aug 31, 2010, at 8:21 PM
  • scfannjackson

I'm the wrong person to ask. The teams participating in the tournament are Bernie, Sikeston, Scott City, Poplar Bluff, Bloomfield, Puxico, Twin Rivers and Advance. If I had to predict a winner I would probably go with Scott City. But my knowledge regarding the junior varsity teams is limited this early in the season.

  • 8/31/10 baseball ofc game Clearwater 8 Naylor 5

Morris came in bottom of 7th K'd all 3 batters in 10 pitches.Someone told me his fastball was smoking of course I knew that he threw harder in relief cause he knew he wouldn't have to pitch long.

    -- Posted by 1Daisey on Wed, Sep 1, 2010, at 1:20 PM
  • Morris was lights out for Clearwater in the 7th. His curveball was even more impressive than his fastball. Woodard for Naylor went 6 innings..3 hits..2 walks..7 strikeouts..either 0 or 1 earned run. Naylor made a lot of errors behind him yesterday.

  • Kitty Purry,

What are your predictions on the Woodland Tournament since everyone has gotten to play a game? I missed the first game between Leopold and the Woodland JV. As far as last night I thought Zalma had the nod over Advance mainly because of their serve. What are your thoughts?

  • Twin Rivers defeats East Carter 7-4

Cole McBroom started for the Royals and Garret Stockton came in for relief, and Colton Powell Pitched all 7 innings for East Carter.

  • Boy oh boy, Logan Morris for Clearwater will be untouchable this spring. Great summer season for him against great competition will just set the table for him to completely dominate, in my opinion. This fall he is doing great, but wait until spring. If he hits weights after Fall Ball through the winter....Well, good luck competition.

-- Posted by GreatFun on Fri, Sep 3, 2010, at 11:52 AM
  • Actually the Clearwater/Doniphan score was Clearwater-5 and Doniphan-0. Morris gave up just 1 hit in the game.

It will be interesting to see how Bell City performs against Zalma on Tuesday and Bernie on Thursday. Zalma pulled off back-to-back upsets against No. 2 seeded Advance and No. 1 seeded Leopold to win its first Woodland Invitational title in a decade. Bernie nearly defeated Bell City in the district championship last season. Both games will tell us a great deal about Class 1.
