Who has Bernie beat the past two weeks to move onto the ranking list this week? Just curious to know. Sure do miss the newspaper coverage for volleyball these days. Last year there were numerous articles, profiles, photos in the Missourian, this year unless your a Cape/Jackson team your lucky to get any coverage at all. How many southeast area football teams get beyond their district play compared to volleyball teams? I'd b curious to know those stats, I don't follow H.S football so I'm out on a limb here but I'd say more southeast MO teams advance for state final 4 in volleyball than football.

Exzalmanian, I think I saw where Zalma beat Marquand last week but you are right as I think that's the only game they've won this year.

Vballmom5, I agree with you. Football gets more coverage than it should and volleyball gets put on the back burner. My connections in Bernie inform me that they have won 10 games in a row over Puxico, Malden, Zalma, Lesterville, Bismarck, Gideon, Twin Rivers, Richland, and Bloomfield twice. I'm sure their wins over Lesterville and Bismarck put them on the list again. The SCAA tournament I think should be a good test to see some of the best teams in the area.

Yeah, I wasn't that win against Marquand-Zion. Zalma used be proud of its VB team and just two or three years ago they had a state ranked team. Now, some elementary school teams would and could beat the.

That's explains it, yes Lesterville and Bismark I've known in the past to have strong programs. Thanks for the updates.

Should b a great final week next week, then district play will start, so exciting to see what happens in district play.

Lesterville? Last I checked Lesterville was 12-11-1. That doesn't scream good to me. And Class 1, District 3 is the weakest district in SEMO and maybe the state.

Lesterville is a good team, exzalmanian. Having watched them play in the Dig for Life Challenge, I can assure you that they are one of the better teams in our area. They almost beat Dexter in three close sets in the quarterfinals of the Gold Bracket. While they may be down this year having lost their star player Taylor Cook, they still have two strong middles in Immerah Bethume and Drew Myers and a pretty solid team otherwise. I wouldn't discount Lesterville or diminish their credibility as a good team, because they are, in my opinion.

I do agree with you that Class 1 District 3 is very weak though.

exzalmanian I think your statement about Lesterville is a little off. I doubt you've actually watched this team play. Yes the record isn't like it normally is for them, but they are pretty young.

1 senior

2 juniors

2 Sophs

1 freshman

Having only 2 girls that saw playing time last year on varsity and having 4 to 6 new kids playing varsity I think they are doing just fine.

Of the 11 loses I think 8 or 9 have been in 3 sets. North county in 3, Eminence in 3, Dexter in 3, Summersville in 3, Bernie in 3, Poplar Bluff in 3, Saxony in 3, Lost to Class 2 state champs St Pius 27-25, and 25-22. I don't think I would classify this team as weak. I would put it more of struggling to gel.

Not like Lesterville plays a weak schedule. This weekend they will be at Perryville tourney, finished in the top 8 at SEMO and finished tied for 3rd at the Seckman tourney.

For you to say that district 3 is the weakest in the state even makes you more off. Obviously you don't venture out much to see the Class 1 teams in the NW part of the state. When was the last time a team from the KC area in Class 1 did anything at state?? Been awhile

Rljohnson93 well said! If u reread my post exzalmanian it reflects that they've had strong programs in the past. I can't speak beyond the one time I've watched them at the semo tourney. Anything could happen in Class1 this year..anywhere in the state.

You're right I haven't seen them play because I'm living in South Dakota right now. I was only going by their record, and their record does not show them to be a good team. Zalma used to be strong program too, then the School Board started playing politics and the program has went to the sewer. Good grief I am going by the THIS YEARS records in Class 1 District 3. Outside of Lesterville all the teams have losing records. I don't give a flip what the other districts did in the past. I was saying this year alone that district is the worst in the state.

Guess Bernie will move up the later as I think they put it to Advance tonight.

-- Posted by vballmom5 on Fri, Oct 12, 2012, at 9:44 PM

Yes, vballmom5, you are correct. Bernie, seeded third, upset top-seeded Advance 25-21, 25-19 to win the SCAA Conference Tournament championship. Dexter, seeded second, slid past fourth-seeded Puxico 25-16, 25-16 to win third place.

In the JV division, top-seeded Puxico defeated third-seeded Bernie 25-21, 25-21 for the championship title while fourth-seeded Advance upset second-seeded Dexter 25-23, 25-22 to win third place.

The following varsity players were chosen to the All-Tournament Team: Paige Patterson (Dexter); Hannah Noe (Dexter); Emily Merick (Puxico); Haley Kennison (Advance); Aimie Simmers (Advance); Allie Below (Advance); Liza Gray (Advance); Chelsea Wagner (Bernie); Paige Mays (Bernie); Tori Lowrey (Bernie).

Should be a great week of Districts coming up.
