Alright all you Mizzou and big 12 beaters lets look at some facts. The AP poll has the top 20 ranking in College Football by conferences as follows:
SEC 5 teams in top 20
Big 12 5 teams in top 20
Big 10 2 teams in top 20
Pac 12 2 teams in top 20
ACC 2 teams in top 20
Big East 2 teams in top 20
MWC 2 teams in top 20
I read a blog on this site the other day that Mizzou would finish next to last in the SEC. Over the last few years, Mizzou has put a lot of players in the NFL. Let me refresh your memories.
Currently best receiver on the Eagles---Jeremy Macklin. With Amadola out for the Rams, best receiver Danario Alexander. Best Defensive backs for the Falcons, Sean Weatherspoon and William Moore. Starting QB for Panthers, Blane Gabbert. Bills WR Brad Smith, Saints QB Chase Daniel, Bears Justin Gage, and there are plenty more but I will stop there. I didn't mention all the NFL hall of famers from Mizzou like Kellen Winslow,James Wilder Ect. If Mizzou went to the SEC we certainly would do just fine. Sure, we probably wouldn't beat Alabama or LSU for a couple years or so but we could beat just about any other team in that conference. If we joined that conference, I,m sure our program would continue to improve. This is a rebuilding year at Missouri and we will still finish in the top 20 and get a good bowl game. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!
Mizzou won't be ranked at the end of the season. Heck, they aren't even ranked right now. Best case scenario is that they go 7-5 and then get an easy bowl game to pad the schedule with an eighth win. They won't beat Oklahoma, OK State, Texas A&M, and both Texas and Baylor. They are a middling team in the Big 12. Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, and Mississippi State would beat them this year and last year. I see the SEC every week. I know how it is in that area. Until you have a team there, you don't understand. It is different to play one SEC team every couple of years and playing them week after week. The SEC is too fast and too defense oriented for Mizzou. They won't succeed.

I agree sideline...Mizzou will be like Kentucky in football...not so good!
-- Posted by Matt Foley on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 9:30 PM
How well they might do in the SEC is debatable. I sure would like to see it though. I can imagine if I went to a school like Ole Miss, then I wouldn't want Mizzou around because of the butt-whooping they would give the Rebels year in and year out. :-)
-- Posted by rocketsbro (Moderator) on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 10:00 PM
The Rebels are a young team two years removed from back-to-back Cotton Bowl victories. I'm not sure if they are going to be down as long as some may think. Coach Nutt didn't get to obtain a good recruiting class his first year there with the late hiring and all. The Rebs start a lot of true freshmen including a 5-star recruit in linebacker CJ Johnson. When those kids are juniors, watch and see.

Don't hijack this Mizzou thread with your Ole Miss vitriol rhetoric. :-)
-- Posted by rocketsbro (Moderator) on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 10:08 PM
Well, I figured the Mizzou thread needed a little Southern Class on it.

Ole Miss put the last three letters in class...

Have you told your wife this?

I meant to say except for her (in case she reads this)...

Too late now. The damage has been done.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 10:26 PM
I was going to say that she was the reason I knew that in the first place, but that would be taking it too far.
-- Posted by rocketsbro (Moderator) on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 10:29 PM
You'd really be in the doghouse then.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Wed, Sep 21, 2011, at 10:32 PM
One of the replies I read regarding my blog that Mizzou and the Big 12 get no respect said Mizzou would not beat OU, OK ST., A&M, which I think we win that game, Texas, who we might beat, and Baylor, also a team Mizzou could beat. All 5 of thoses teams are ranked in the top 20. 5 teams, the same number of teams that the SEC has in the top 20. The reply also stated that Mizzou could not compete in the sacred SEC. Even in a re-building year I know Mizzou could beat Ole Miss,Tenn,Vandy,Georgia, ect. I will agree that Bama, who in my opinion has the best program in the nation as well as the best coach, and LSU with that defense are 2 of the best teams in CFB. But 2 great teams doesn't make the SEC GOD'S chosen conference. Did you forget the beating Mizzou put on Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in 2009. Mizzou won 38 to 7 at Dallas.
I'm sick and tired of SEC fans thinking all other teams are inferior. Look at the history of National championships. What about the PAC 12, The BIG 10, even the lowly ACC. At the end of the year lets look at the rankings and let this end this argument.
-- Posted by scobeyc on Thu, Sep 22, 2011, at 8:13 AM
Let me know how many national titles the Big 12 has in the last five years...or any conference other than the SEC. It is the top conference in the country right now for a reason. Also, Mizzou would be put in the SEC West meaning they wouldn't see Tennessee, Vandy, or Georgia. Need to brush up on your history. And if you want to wait until LSU or Alabama is holding the national title at the end of the season to prove this argument in favor of the SEC. Go ahead.
-- Posted by sideline starter on Thu, Sep 22, 2011, at 10:16 AM
Not really as big a football fan as basketball so i would like to see them go to the Sec for basketball. I'm glad that Pitt and the orange men went to the ACC just adds to already the best conference in basketball.
-- Posted by BIGELW on Thu, Sep 22, 2011, at 11:57 AM
SEC has won 7 bcs championship including the last 5. nobody right now is on their level. and if people respected the big 12, they wouldn't be about to fall apart
-- Posted by V,B on Thu, Sep 22, 2011, at 9:26 PM
I am not talking about the last 10 years. Sure the sacred SEC has more national championships than anybody else in this era. What about teams like OU in the 60s and 70s? How many National campionships did they win? How many Heisman players are from the big 12?
How about teams like Texas and Nebraska? Sure the SEC has been the best conference lately, But you should give the Big 12 some props. I quess your daughter went to Ole Miss or something. Well, I am proud of Mizzou and I respect the Big 12 and the other conferences in CFB. I like Alabama because of the way Saban runs the program. I respect LSU and their great defense. But, when the crap gets settled over the money in the Big 12, and Mizzou continues to improve the program, one day we will earn some respect. GO MIZZOU!!!

Mizzou is a Choke artist school and never wins a big game... Well not with Gary Pinkel as head coach anyways! They always lose the "big" games and usually lose in thier bowl games. I mean come on Navy destroyed them last year!! Lol Go Big Red!
