The Kelly Lady Hawks softball team is having another outstanding season. Last week the Lady Hawks ran into a very good Delta team that beat them 2 - 0. They finished the week off by beating Cape Central 4 - 0 and East Prairie 13 - 0.
This week the Lady Hawks beat two very good teams, Poplar Bluff 4 - 0 on Tuesday and Perryville 4 - 0 on Wednesday. The Lady Hawks are currently 14 - 4. They will be off the rest of this week before heading into a full schedule of games next week.
The Lady Hawks will be tested next week with 3 very tough home games and the rescheduled Jackson Tournament. On Monday, the Lady Hawks play the Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs. Tuesday the opponent will be the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules. On Wednesday, which will be Senior Day, the Lady Hawks will play the Oran Lady Eagles. Saturday the Lady Hawks will travel to Cape Shawnee Park to play in the Jackson Tournament, which was rained out last weekend.
Kelly will round out its season on October 5th, playing their season finale at Jackson against the Lady Indians. The 2A district tournament will begin later that week in Perryville. Good luck to the Lady Hawks and continue your hard play.
The Kelly Lady Hawks had an outstanding week. On Tuesday, the Lady Hawks traveled to Scott City, to face off with 2A district foe, the Lady Rams. Junior Kristen Powell held the Lady Rams in check, pitching 6 1/3 innings. Danielle Dock came in to get the final two outs of the game, to save the 4 -0 shutout. On Wednesday, the Lady Hawks hit the road again, traveling to Sikeston to face off with a very competitive Lady Bulldogs team. Sikeston jumped to an early 3 - 0 lead, off of Danielle Dock th in the first two innings. Sikeston held the lead through 4 innings, before the Lady Hawks rallied to take the lead 4 - 3 in the 5th innings. The Lady Hawks prevailed 5 - 3 over the tough Lady Bulldogs team, with Danielle Dock getting the win.
On Saturday, the Lady Hawks traveled to Arnold, MO to play in the Seckman Jaguar Invitational Tournament. The Lady Hawks lost their first game to 4A Pacific 4 - 3. In the second game, the Lady Hawks lost 1 - 0 to another 4A school, Cor Jesu. Since all teams were guaranteed 4 games in this very competitive tournament, the Lady Hawks had to bounce back and turn it up a notch, which is exactly what they did. The Lady Hawks beat 3A Windsor 10 - 0 in their third game and then beat 4A Nerinx Hall 5 - 0 in their finale. An overall 2 - 2 record for the tournament, scoring 18 runs while allowing just 5 runs in 28 innings, is not shabby for the only 2A team in the tournament. The Lady Hawks ended the week with an overall 10 - 3 record.
The Lady Hawks will be in action next week at Delta on Monday, Cape Central at Kelly on Wednesday and at East Prairie on Thursday. This weekend the Lady Hawks will be playing in the Jackson Invitational Tournament, which will be played at Shawnee Sports Complex in Cape Girardeau. Good Luck and keep playing hard.
Great first week Lady Hawks softball. 2-0 Varsity record and 1-1 JV record. Don't let up, it's a long season and remember what's waiting at the end of the rainbow.
