NAYLOR -- The following is not a typo: The Naylor Lady Eagles really did defeat Eminence 80-8 in the Naylor Invitational on Tuesday.

Led by Hailee Deckard's 29 points, the Lady Eagles did not score less than 15 points in any quarter and held the Lady Redwings without a point for the first five minutes of the game.

"The girls played hard defensively," Naylor coach Stephana Deckard said. "The girls are really working together as a team and it feels like they are really jelling."

Naylor's team mentality was most evident in the game's opening and closing minutes.

As the game opened, Deckard sunk a layup off a nice perimeter bounce-pass from Charissa Bridges. Brooke Baccus sunk two foul shots after Deckard set her up with a low-post feed. Shortly after, Cheyenne Ragsdale scored her first basket of the game on a dish from Alicia Dragon. And then Courtney Sullivan closed out the first quarter with a steal and an assist to Moriah Goodrum.

"Right now, everyone is working hard to do their own job and complete their own tasks on the court," Deckard said. "We need a total team effort to win."

Toward the end of the game, there was only one Naylor name not yet on the scoresheet. To get her there, the Lady Eagles worked the ball around the perimeter, trying to get that player into position.

It worked -- she was fouled on a shot attempt and scored on a free throw.

"It just goes to show their team spirit," Deckard said.

Also for Naylor, Ragsdale scored 12 while Baccus and Goodrum netted 13 each.

Eminence, which is just beginning its girls basketball program, did not score more than two points in any quarter.

Clearwater 55, East Carter 33

* Without their leading scorer, the Lady Tigers were able to outduel East Carter in an Ozark Conference Foothills game Tuesday.

With Lindsay Bell out of the lineup due to an injury, Clearwater (1-0) coach Heather Evans said her team got big contributions from sophomore forwards Tiffany Tucker and

Kara Miller as well as junior guard Adriann D'Amico.

"(Tucker and Miller) played so well together in the post," Evans said. "I'm really looking forward to watching those girls."

Evans said Tucker had an "outstanding" game, with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals. Miller scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field while D'Amico scored 18 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals.

"Defensively, (D'Amico) is almost unstoppable at times," Evans said. "And as a leader, she is excellent."

Also for the Lady Tigers, Leslie Smith scored five points and Emily Miller had five rebounds. Tasha Tucker had five rebounds and four steals.

For East Carter (0-1), Laura Nance led with 11 points while Brittany Reed scored eight.

* Adam Carpenter had a big night Tuesday as his Dons won their Farmington Invitational opener.

Carpenter netted 28 points, leading all scorers. Carpenter had five 2-pointers, six 3-pointers and was 1-of-1 from the foul line.

Also for the Dons, Charles Wilson scored 17 points and

also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds while Lance Majors scored 12 points. Chandler Wilson chipped in eight points as the Dons outscored Lutheran South in every quarter and 44-23 in the second half.

"Defensively, we're pretty sound right now," Andrews said. "We still need to work on our press some, but I'm proud of the way we played defense."

The Dons (2-0) continue Farmington tournament play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against St.

James.
