Monday, July 30, 2007

The Plaza Tire Capahas now have an opponent for their first game in the National Baseball Congress World Series.

The 42-team double-elimination tournament began Sunday and is scheduled to conclude Aug. 12 in Wichita, Kan.

Among the winners in Monday's games were the Junction City (Kan.) Generals, who defeated the Nevada (Mo.) Griffons 6-1.

Junction City moves into the round of 32 teams, into which the Capahas had a bye. The teams will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Plaza Tire, which tied for 13th place in this event last year, is 28-6 this year and won the NBC Mid-South Regional at Capaha Field to earn its 26th straight berth in the NBC World Series.

In Junction City's win, Rawley Bishop had two hits and drove in three runs, according to the box score posted on www.nbcbaseball.com}. Ben Percival pitched a complete game for the win, allowing seven hits and no walks while striking out five.

The Springfield Generals, who lost 6-5 to the Capahas in 10 innings during the Mid-South Regional, also played Monday and lost 6-5 to the Houston Apollos by surrendering three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
