JEFFERSON CITY -- Hannah Blalock earned an all-state medal in her first trip to Oak Hills.
The Poplar Bluff freshman ran the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 2 seconds to finish 10th in the MSHSAA Class 3 championships.
"I wanted to break 20 (minutes)," Blalock said. "I think on the last long hill, I slowed down. I would have done good if I would have pushed that."
Poplar Bluff coach Beth Lewis added, "You come around that curve, everybody looks like they're running out of gas."
Blalock said during a delay before the start of the race she was a little nervous until she noticed her coach making funny faces.
"She had a frumpy look on her face," Lewis said. "She did real well."
Blalock's finish was the best by a Poplar Bluff runner since John-Mark Lewis placed 13th in 2005.
Natalie Todd of Ladue Horton Watkins won the race in 19:05.
Poplar Bluff sophomore Travis Blalock finished 35th in the boys Class 3 race with a time of 17:26.
